How do you know it's genuine?

Doesn't actually say it's a genuine sky remote ( clever wording), just it's a genuine replacement.

A lot of the neutral and bad reviews are complaining about fake non genuine poor quality items

Nothing new to fleabay.....these so called clever wording mean simply mean it is not genuine. They do use the word "genuine" to get into the search list with this keyword.

they are fake, honestly do not buy from a seller who puts in their listing "genuine replacement" because your likely to get burnt.

why rev 9 when rev 10 has been out for ages? Seems fishy to me

Before buying, possibly do it for free by checking to see if an easy DIY repair is an option - here's an example from the official Sky forums:
My problem was also the oily substance leak - took me 10 min to repair (quoted from SkyWise's post in the above thread):
"...I decided to take it apart, as I now had nothing to lose. There are various posts explaining how to do this. I was amazed to find that the circuit board and the rubber pad inside were absolutely soaking wet with an oily substance!
Reading further American forums on faulty remotes, it seems this is most likely silicone oil which comes out of the rubber pads, more coming from the button pads that are used the most. It interferes with correct operation of the buttons.
Carefully cleaning this off the board with cotton buds and alcohol, together with all the other accumulated muck, has fully restored my old remote to working order! According to the American posts, this is likely to recur about every 5-6 years..."

Check their feedback. I bought my sister one a while back for £6.50 and it was perfect and appears to be the real deal. The seller was super-satellite-man

I also bought 1 from Super Satellite man, was 100% fake. I had to press some of the buttons 3-4 times just to get a response. Contacted the seller and was offered a replacement (which was actually a genuine Sky remote).

Ive purchased 2 or 3 from eBay in the past (not from this seller though) and they have all been fake even when they say they are genuine. Just don't work as well as sky official ones so ended up ordering direct from sky. Yes I paid more but the sky ones work like a dream. Just thought it worth calling out.

These were under £3 a few weeks ago and are still readily available for under £5 on ebay so not the best deal out there

Hi all, as I said on the last such thread, if your remote breaks, phone up Sky and in my experience they will send you one for free: ultimately the service cannot be properly used without a remote so it is in their interests to provide one.

Was just about to say exactly the same! They do give them for free I believe. I know virgin do. I rang them after I dropped my original and broke the IR cover on the front of it, but still worked, and they just sent me a new one which I have as a spare if needed. Don't know why anyone would pay for one of these.

I bought a "genuine" sky remote for the same price. Had to change the batteries literally every week. The batteries in my real remote lasted a year or two. This cheap remote ended up costing me nearly £60 for the year I had it (before I threw it in the bin). Should have just bought a proper one for £20 and had it for years.

Fair enough. This was 2014 but I may have contacted the seller prior to buying the item to ask if they were genuine. That might be why the one I got for my sister seems to be authentic.
