Morrisons New Season British Strawberries 270g £1.00.
I know the Spanish ones have been on offer since at least April but now at last the start of the British strawberry season. Much nicer and more flavoursome than Spanish ones in my opinion ,

Well done you. Your last link is pretty much where I've stood for a decade or two. On the odd occasion I have almost taken on the mass view that 'natural is safe', 'chemicals are bad', 'organic is much safer' and 'its carcinogenic' but, err, it would take too long of my time to convert people who believe the world is not a sphere. Oh and one of the best I read on here the bees do all this work for us and don't ask for anything in return for producing honey and pollinating our flowers and crops. . As I sometimes say "Not much altruism in nature". Its short but a very far reaching line as I'm sure you would be aware if you read much by Prof. Ames.

My local are doing half a kilo for £1 and unlike the artificial-like taste in supermarkets these taste great
Given that its local looks wise they are not as good as the supermarket, but to me the taste of sweet strawberries matters

You should wash organic fruit and veg as well, they will have residues too. Regardless, it's unlikely to be a significant risk.
Markies have a big one at half price £2, Scots

British ones usually taste a bit rubbish. Northern Africa and Spain usually win for me. Still, a decent price if you're not fussy and want them for a smoothie or something.

Love strawberries! Nice with ice cream, so how about the Co-op meal deal for a fiver? Includes Kelly's litre (almost) tub of choc brownie ice cream that retails alone at £3.99!! With a co-op 10% discount that's a 'deal'!
Last time I went into Morri's for the strawberries they'd all gone! Wasn't paying their higher prices, so popped 50 metres across the road into Aldi - theirs look crap, so went another 250 metres into Asda and got a 400g punnet reduced to £1.00! And they were ok too! I was expecting them to be gone over.

Good price but hit two red lights on your way home from Morrisons and your fruit and veg goes mouldy :disappointed:

The British ones have the union jack plastered all over the packaging. It's pretty obvious.

Careful, I was always told to rinse all fruit and veg as risk of pesticides and other residues linked to Parkinsons and Alzheimers - you don't know what they've been spraying their crops with, unless organic I guess.

saw some British strawberries in Morrison's yesterday, looked through the punnets but they are nowhere near ripe enough, they were pink rather than red with to much white at the top, most people were putting them back. I looked through several boxes of them, but decided they were going to be hard and sour.

Great shout, strawberries plants are another excellent choice, just grow your own if you can. The seeds cost a few pence and you get a heck of a lot, I've got pears, Apples, rhubarb, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, beetroot growing in my back garden. I have a big back garden so i have room to do so, by the way I'm 31 not 71, I give the impression of an OAP

best strawberries I've tasted are the Jubilee variety, they're Tesco finest but not sure if they're sold in other places. I don't really care if they're British or not, it's so hard to find strawberries that actually taste really good, so if anyone can recommend any of the current offers based on tasting really nice i'd appreciate it. I really got tired of buying them only to find they're bitter or have no taste, the Jubilee variety are so addicitve you could demolish a few packets easily.

French Strawberries = probably on strike.
Grow outside, In full Sun (no shade). Let the Bees do their work. Use the greenhouse for tomatoes.

Bought some strawberry plants last year. Grew them in the greenhouse and a few outdoors. Same pot size, compost, feeding blah. Recently (today and y'day) did some taste tests. These being 'french' varieties I thought the greenhouse would be best but no, the ones grown outdoors were definitely much much nicer. The plan for tomorrow is to get them all outside.

I bought strawberries from Morrisons & Iceland recently. Both looked nice, but had no real taste - just a watery strawberry'ish sort of taste.

I 100% always prefer British strawberries in season. Out of season is a different matter, but this time of year absolutely no contest, nothing can touch the fresh ones.

I always look for country of origin. Whenever, I see Spain, Egypt, Tunisia or Turkey, I always know I've got good strawberries. When I see that british label, I don't what I am going to get.

The british strawberries are always smaller and less sweet (some are watery and sour) than the foreign ones

strawberry picking is the best, depends if you've got a farm near to you though. I get my money's worth by eating my body weight in strawberries while going around picking them!

Pot luck thou as I said but still more expensive than Morrisons .
3 packs at Morrisons for £3 = 810G, ( Guaranteed British New Season)
2 Packs At Iceland for £3.00 = 800g ( Pot Luck Country of Origin)

It said British on the packets when I bought them  If they're not then don't put them in your basket! They also seemed pretty fresh to me, they'd only come from Lancashire, one county away. Now that we're getting to summer, they're almost guaranteed to be British.
