Excellent. Introduce 'fairer' milk tariff where you can choose to pay 23p extra on your milk to give towards dairy cooperative on the one hand. On the other hand reduce price of milk further. Ba"%$ards!!

Farmers get more than enough money in EU/government handouts if they were normal businesses they would go bust if they got a constant negative profit on Their goods
after all a poor farmer is one who has last years model of Range Rover

There are mega rich farmers and then there are subsistence farmers and those between the two. Don't lump them in all together. Handouts? You joined HUKD just to say that?

Subsidies enable food to be cheap & also pay the farmer to take land out of food production so that they can use it for extra environmental measures.
If farmers were not paid this financial support (don't worry they make us jump through lots of hoops for it!) then yes, some would go out of business.
This could mean that more food has to be imported, that has not been produced to the same (welfare) standards (Red Tractor farm assurance). Food security for the Uk would also then be an issue.
Also what would happen to the farmland? The countryside today looks as it is because of farming.
Remaining farms would have to get bigger to benefit from economies of scale. Some people don't like the idea of larger livestock & arable units ... bigger sheds of animals, larger agricultural equipment on the road .... etc!
You get what you pay for!
Btw. A farmer's 4WD usually has a towbar & has to double up as the vehicle that pulls the livestock trailer & the vehicle that does the shopping, school run, nights out, etc.

Hi. We're British Arla farmers & you're right, Arla is a cooperative. Arla is owned by 12,700 dairy farmers, around 3,000 of whom are British.
Arla is paid a #fairprice by Morrisons, regardless of the prices / offers they make.
The Milk for Farmers brand does give you the opportunity to pay extra for your milk & the money definitely does come back to us - Thank you.
Arla has similar arrangements with supermarkets in the six other European countries that Arla farmers are from & so these deals also make up our milk price.
What I'm trying to say is, don't worry about the offers that Morrisons (Asda & Aldi) have, as they do pay us a #fairprice for it in the first place.
When you see the 'Farmer Owned' logo on dairy products you know all profits go direct to the farmer.
Thank you for thinking about us. <3

Very irresponsible of Morrison's encouraging people who can't pass on a 'deal' to buy 12 pints at once. Though no doubt somebody will now tell me that they regularly get through 12 pints in just a couple of days, most people just don't need or want 12 pints at once, and despite the long shelf life, it never tastes as good after a few days, so no doubt loads goes down the sink.

Go forth and multiply.
With a couple of toddlers, a couple of adults eating cereal or porridge every day, one who is a coffee drinker getting through a pint a day, it doesn't take too long to get through this amount of milk. We never have to put any down the sink.
That said, we do get most of our milk from a Milkman. Yes, it costs a lot more, but we know the money is getting to the people actually doing the work.
Live long and prosper.

My family loves milk. In hot drinks...cereal...smoothies...milk shakes etc. We easily go through 12 pints in a few days. And not a drop poured away!!

I heard that but they're a cooperative, so all money goes back to the farmers. It just happens that they are spread across the e.u. It says as much on the bottle so I don't mind too much.

Given the negative margins for producers as things stand AND the cost of transporting perishable liquid product from the continent, fat chance of foreign product having our flag on it, but when will these avaricious plonkers stop screwing our dairy farmers? The industry has been destroyed for no useful purpose whatsoever other than these absurd headline prices. One one hand they're flogging bottled *water* for a pound a litre, on the other a valuable food product that mugs the supplier with every sale.

Can't people afford to pay more for their milk to ensure that the British dairy farmers get a realistic return for their efforts?

am pretty sure the farmer still gets the same price for their milk regardless it's Morrisons that will be making less money

Be careful, it was on TV the other day about the 23p not necessarily going to UK farmers, but going to EU farmers although it has a Union Jack on the label. Didn't catch much of it but sure someone else did and will be able to elaborate.
