Cheapest on ebay is £12.49, but they have limited success with Lumia's on Vodafone, especially brand new handset as they have to wait for Vodafone to release the unlock codes (can take up to 30-days from sale of the phone).
It might be best to try with a local phone unlocking shop.
No, that is not possible.
Not a bad price for this phone if you are happy to stick with Vodafone (or TalkTalk / Talk Mobile). It has a good quality screen and camera for the price. Just make sure to update the OS, Firmware and Apps before using it for anything. The factory installed software experience is a bug riddled mess.

Other online reports suggest phones still stuck at 0% after three days. The hard reset the chap recommended worked, but it's hardly a great user experience.
I guess it depends on how you value your time, I hate to cite a cliche but my 6S just works and if there have been any bugs, I've certainly not come across any show stoppers in normal use.
This lumia will be fine for radio and offline Deezer playback once I've figured out the best/neatest solution for a small antenna without headphones (possibly one of those android 3.5mm click buttons), but I wouldn't want it as my daily device.

Mine's arrived today. Planning to use it as a bike radio/mp3 player/GPS - no idea if it'll work but worth a try
EDIT: I can see why it's only £40. An hour on and it's still not installed the updates, had to do the hard reset as mentioned above to get it to even download the update in the first place.

If you had just left it alone it would have finished the updates eventually. It is rather buggy when you first get it without updates. The person above you gave a good suggestion. Although, I'd say that really has very little reflection on the price since even £400+ phones can and do launch with bugs.

Great phone for the price. Had loads at work and are really nice for a cheap phone. My advice however would to reset it first turn phone on and go to settings and about at click reset phone. Then do all available updates and app updates and it will work so much better.

"however on Unix/Linix systems, a password is mandatory" - oh the smell of windows BS - ssh key authentication - just one of the many ways.........

Thanks, ordered one for the bike, wanted an mp3 player/radio and this should do the trick.
Just hope Vodafone's online system/CS is better than the last fight I had a few years back.
Does anyone know if one of those 3.5mm metal buttons for Android would allow loudspeaker FM radio on this?

is it possible to root and replace with android?

No! and rooting doesn't apply to this phone at all. Completely different system.
Rooting: To gain root access applies to Unix/Linux variant operating systems only. Windows as in the form of desktop Windows uses a clumsy system called UAC which means User Account Control. Again this doesn't apply to Windows Phone in my experience.
On Unix/Linux variant systems a user can be an administrator but still not have full access to the system, this can be achieved by the superuser (root). Logging in as root is a security risk, therefore to obtain root permissions for some tasks temporarily the command sudo is used (superuser do). UAC on Windows attempts the same thing, whereby a user account is an administrator but requires user intervention, however on Unix/Linix systems, a password is mandatory, with UAC it is not, therefore this leads to the general user thinking oh another window that is interrupting me, I'll click OK and get rid of it, therefore negating any benefit UAC attributed to the system.

You have to be quick it disappears very quickly either press F5 keys or disable the java script in your browser

That worked but now I just get a white screen when I click it? Anyway around that?

Never mind I managed it by adding a paid sim then going to change it once the device was already in my basket. Cheers for the Java hint!

I must be blind because I can't for the life of me see where I can choose to keep my existing SIM. When I scroll down it ends at the £30 SIM option?
