Nothing to do with alternative medicine, low Magnesium levels are very common, (almost more common than those who don't have low levels!) and may well be a cause of the pain and other things too - this stuff is a very easy way to get levels up without the possible trots from taking it internally!
Cheapest way of all is make your own, "Magnesium oil" buy Magnesium Chloride from ebay, mix with water. Use 333g made up to a litre with water. Info & recipe on Dr MyHills site: see http://drmyhill.co.uk/wiki/Magnesium_-_treating_a_deficiency
