I also think you had a faulty unit. audio is excellent. paid £28 on Amazon in June 2015, and I've seen it on another lightning deal since then, most likely will again. This is a bargain though.

Nope. I checked and the Logitech software doesn't allow for data rate changes, so, it's due to low data rates. Google it.

I got mine for £29.99 on promotion from Amazon UK in December 2014. No chance of getting at that price now. Easily the best web camera I've used and possibly the best out there, especially for the money. No brainer, if you need and can afford then get one.

What he is arguing, that with all the advances in smartphone cameras, surely someone can do a better webcam for this kind of money. (and I do not mean transmitted but original image) I have seen phones around 100£ with crazy good cameras which put this to shame, and I doubt those need to cost 40£.
But yes this is slowly a dieing breed, as laptops/phones have built ins which are "good enough" and there are less and less desktops around.
All that said it is a good deal for a decent camera.

I have got this one and Microsoft LifeCam Studio, Logitech camera u cannot turn on sides unlike Microsoft device. Also here is no protective cover. Both cameras are full HD, but Microsoft one has got better picture sharpness and auto focus. Also on life cam is much better microphone. I like them both, just guys if you will have same price on both, chose Microsoft device. Thanks.

Mate, you seriously had a faulty one. The 920 is the cam even Video Conference suppliers recommend (when you aren't using their room systems). The 920 and the 930 are excellent cams. You'd use the 930 for a room, and 920 for a solo user.
And on the "software", you only need a "driver" from Logitech. The software that decides what video codec, bitrates etc are the endpoint software apps like Skype, or Vidyo, or Lifesize.. or home user stuff like Curse, or Hangouts via WebRTC.
I've yet to see another top of PC cam beat the 920 yet.

If you're having issues, if you're trying to do a 1080p or 720p @ 60 fps up a standard DSL then its going to look bad.
You'd need to turn things down, but that isn't the camera. 720p at 60 needs about 1.4Mbps for example. Your DSL is likely 800k. Or you got a broken one, or some other PC issue. But if you have the right software and the right bandwidth then the 920 looks fantastic.

i wanted one of these for streaming local views 'out my window' on youtube, but this one won't focus to infinity as designed to focus on people sat at pc in small domestic room. Ones that advertise infinity are cheap china produced garbage that I can't guarantee will work at all or at least work with my free streaming software called wirecast for which the C920 is supposed to. I'm stuck there seems no product out there for me atm. There are videos out there showing you how to take a c920 apart to manually focus to infinity, no chance of getting refund after that though :o
imdurc
8 May 16#34
I know you want to explain it away with things like, "you had a faulty one" or "your DSL is likely 800k"! Well, sorry, it wasn't faulty and my internet is fibre broadband, not DSL. Not sure what that last one means, considering I was recording onto my PC, but, well...ok. And hey, I was using 1080p30 - not exactly taxing.
What you won't get from all the reviews on the internetz is that it deals with colour-space badly and this relates to me because of the colour in my room. Try and find a c920 video on youtube with a strong red colour (plus shadow) and see what it looks like.
If Logitech had allowed you to modify settings properly, and not have to hack it via something like OBS, it may have been a contender. Sadly, it doesn't allow this and can actually crash OBS when you try to alter things. Yes, I did try 3rd party software and no, they didn't provide any unique controls.
I'm willing to be wrong on this as I could do with a simple webcam with good quality images, free of noise.

Get an ip camera  they start at about £65 or more for one in the video below as it has mega optical zoom!
For a simple web cam free of noise try a PlayStation Eye, can be had for under £3 second hand from Game or CEX...
Granted it resolution is "simple"@ 640×480 pixels @ 60 Hz or 320×240 pixels @ 120 Hz, I have yet to find a better spec cheaper! (it also sports true stereo audio capture)

Yes, made by a company that is funded by the Chinese government - so the firmware probably includes some lovely backdoors for them to spy on you. Does anyone not question why Hikvision is flooding the market with these cheap cameras!?

Actually, he may have a point. Dashcams sometimes have typical camera mount holes that will be compatible with all sorts of mounts out there, including clamps. Failing that, a little bit of powerful velcro and it's sorted.

It's one thing to not care about the fact that mass surveilance is happening, it's quite another to pretend that it isn't, and it's a third level still to pretend that the people who are concerned about it are the crazy ones.

Why would the government want to watch me eating pizza and giving myself a happy ending (not necessarily at the same time)?
Looks like a good camera for a good price.
I paid same price about 5 years ago doesn't seem to be a bargain although the cam itself it's a very good piece of kit and it's still running faultlessly

The government probably don't care about you, because you're a nobody. No offence.
Intelligence agencies want wide surveillance capabilities for two reasons.
1) They want to be able to know more about you if you do become interesting to them.
2) They want to be able to automate scanning of mass surveillance data.
These aren't particularly contraversial ideas - if you had their jobs, you would do the same thing.
Using backdoors in things like consumer webcams is really ideal for intelligence agencies, whatever their country of origin, because you're getting someone else to pay for the hardware and bring it into their own home.
carsick77
8 May 16#51
as others have said, this is the best consumer cam around. There is a C930e which we use at work as a video conference replacement across Skype for Business which gives a wide angle lens, I like them.
Use this particular model with Windows 10 and Skype in the home and both the camera and microphone are awesome.
carsick77
8 May 16#52
Really mate? This really isn't a thing unless you really do have something to hide. If you are still afraid, just unplug it when your finished.
As the others have said, this isn't really happening and even if it is - do you have something that the gov's and other agencies are interested in?
carsick77
8 May 16#53
It is but doubt you will find it for much less than double the price. Great bit of kit and as mentioned, we use it a video conference replacement.
wild_quinine
8 May 161#54
No, but I love the way you're happy to casually imply that anyone concerned about being spied on must be some kind of criminal. That's exactly the way that censorship and oppression actually works at the whole society level in countries where the goverment really will spy on you and have you killed for a difference of political opinion.
You're not a good person for living in the UK, where this stuff isn't really at the forefront of your concerns. You're just lucky.
Never forget that, because it can all change.
pig_dog
8 May 161#55
You're completely missing the point: if devices have backdoors, it's not just the lovely government employees that will have access - other groups can find these backdoors and abuse them for their own nefarious reasons.

But OBS isn't Logitech. And BTW, I use a 920 with OBS just fine, admittedly with a green background, haven't tried red. If you Google that combo, plenty of people are using a 920 with OBS. Its a very common camera. Anyway, you seem to be of the idea that we are all mad, and you are the only sane person in the room  Ever thought it might be the other way round? :-P
How can so many people be wrong, and have a camera that seems to be working fine? Surely your one occurrence of not getting it to work must mean we are all lying  Anyway, sorry to hear it didn't work for you. But for other who won't read this boring dialogue, I can assure them it works very well indeed and its a great camera.
