How does this fare at this price vs similar windows tablets with this spec? I've been after a windows tablet for a little while and don't need the gaming side of this. would this be a good buy or can I get same spec for cheaper without the gaming attachments?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

You could roll the dice and get a Chinese tablet -
Here's a few (Windows only) tablets here - Chuwi Vi8 Plus Windows 10 Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 Quad Core 1.84GHz 8 inch WXGA IPS Screen 2GB RAM 32GB ROM, £61.84 China http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_268587.html
Dropped in price to £89.... Can't say no to that.
Will put RemixOS on this and dual boot to android.
Hopefully the control dock will work for Android games.
Kodi should run smooth being CherryTrail and 2GB ram.

love this tablet streams my xbox one ps4 and steam games and now that steam allows 3rd party streaming it can ewven do my gog account. the controller isn't the most conformable thing to use it's pretty awesome for racing and sports games but for fps i just attach a real controller and put the pad on a stand. fantastic price!

There's a chance that you'll end up with one of the two that I took back to Argos.
A real shame as I really wanted it to work well and the controls are actually quite decent, but I have never owned such a flakey device, ever. Put simply, the WiFi chip just isn't up to the job of streaming Xbox One, PS4 or Steam.
Despite 3 weeks of constant effort, updates, roll backs, different router and WiFi access points, wired Ethernet connection, a USB stick from Lynx to set it back to factory settings and 4 different friends' houses, I gave up and took it back. When the replacement didn't work either, that went back too. Many people have had them without any issues, but after weeks or diagnostics and effort, I had to conclude it wasn't fit for purpose.
Make sure you can return it if you're unlucky as I was.

I couldn't disagree more. I have one and admittedly there are issues (e.g. cracking audio sound when headphones are plugged in, but the WiFi is very strong.
It's wireless AC as opposed to N like most tablets in this price range. With a decent router (I use an Asus AC68u) you should have no problems streaming whatsoever.

i was about to ask about remixos! I installed it on my asus t100. but you need a keyboard to select it on my dell xps 18? maybe can work out how to boot to it from windows. also i could only instal remixos on c drive on asus t100. couldn't get it to boot from external sd card. how about you?
forcedv
13 May 16#22
Booting RemixOS from micro SD didn't work for the various devices I tried but, booting from the RemixOS USB works well.
Ultimately, don't like the idea of USB sticks because it's much cooler to dual boot off C- drive.
Only down side with C drive OS sharing on these tablets is the lack of space (32Gb isn't really enough to share).
I'll have a crack at installing RemixOS on this when it arrives. Hopefully it should handle 1080p video via Kodi and HDMI out.
The wait begins....

What wireless chip does yours have? Mine didn't have AC support, confirmed by both myself, multiple forum members and Lynx themselves.

Strange, says Wireless AC from a few retailers, even on the Linxtablet.co.uk forum. I'll have a better look when I'm on my pc.
The AC 3165 should support 5ghz but the two I owned never found and (therefore never connected to) any 5ghz networks I tried.
Here's a response I got from Lynx support when trying to get it working - note the last line. From the countless research I done at the time, the AC 3165 seems quite flaky in a whole range of devices that uses it.
I'm not trying to damn the tablet as others have genuinely good experience with it, but mine became a massive headache :disappointed:

Agreed, I had one that was so flaky it had to go back. There was very little support and no ability to roll back when Windows Update 1511 broke it completely.

17 May 16#37
How did Windows Update 1511 break it exactly?
Would a full restore not fix any problems?
AbbaTheHorse
17 May 16#38
1511 broke wireless stability. Lynx had to send me a USB stick to roll it back which worked but then as soon as Windows 10 did its thing, it broke again.
I owned my two for a few weeks and spent 95% of that time trying to get it them to work.
I should've given up sooner in hindsight.

Had the same thing, Linx sent me a USB with the restore image. Unfortunately they took over 2 weeks to do it, so I returned the tablet. Currently, 1511 is waiting to be installed, I do not have the courage to upgrade the replacement I purchased.

Had mine since Saturday.
Condition is like new, not single mark, as tablets goes, its well-built with nice materials.
I ran all the updates (1511), no issues for me.
Xbox One streaming is perfect from 2 floors away, coupled with Bluetooth headphones makes it ideal.
Still need to test streaming with Steam.
Still need to test HDMI out.
Kodi works perfect.
Emulators work perfect (snes and mega drive).
Installed Steam client, here are just a few games on a Samsung 128gb SD card I have tried and run fine with the controller -
Bastion
Batman Arkham City
Dead Space
Fez
Half Life 2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2
Oceanhorn
Sonic 4 Episode 1 & 2
Braid
Halo Spartan Assault
Limbo
Mark of the Ninja
Rayman Origins
Ultra Street Fighter 4
I believe all the Lego games work; I will be getting those next time they are on offer.
I am very happy for the price I paid, it’s a nice size for portable gaming and media, plus it can do all the basic Windows tasks. I have a flight coming up in a couple months, I will much prefer to game on this than my iPad.

Wonder if the aforementioned Windows 10 update woes are related to the MicroSD card like a recent(ish) one that caused problems for Linx owners? Though I have the Baytrail Linx 10. In that instance, removing the card allowed the update to continue (it kept stalling otherwise).
Never had any bother with big Windows updates, still going strong nearly a year and a half later

Glad you find that works well, I have been considering buying it on Steam for use with another device and controller. Just to check, is the controller in this Bluetooth or does it connect physically to the tablet, I want to use controller companion with a micro Bluetooth controller (this one).

The gaming controller is physically connected.
Love the Bluetooth idea.... Might get one to try (can't see why it wouldn't work with the Controller Companion app).

For the record my windows 1512 update issues were not Micro SD card related as I never installed one, it never got that far. Basically it worked intermittently, then upgraded to 1511 and it never would connect to either Xbox One.

Might also pop over to XDA forums and ask them to get RemixOS working on this.

Edit: According to this, no http://www.linxtablet.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=1944 but I can see lots of misinformation about this tablet. Many websites still state 5MP/2MP cameras (even the Linx outlet http://linxoutlet.co.uk/index.php?id_product=30&controller=product but not the official Linx Vision website) as well as Wireless AC.
