Anyway in case my version of the deal is deleted I'll copy & paste the relevant info about reviews here for those that may be interested and in advance of the naysayers  :

I read through the reviews on John Lewis, Tesco, Amazon and Currys before a) buying...

Amazon only 12 reviews and one is complaining about the state of the item received from a third party seller, 1 about Bluetooth not working and 2 about incompatibility with particular TVs.
Link:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-LAS350B-Channel-Soundbar-Subwoofer/dp/B00VLS4KTC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462425759&sr=8-2&keywords=LG+LAS350B

Reviews on Currys are also generally favourable with a average of 8.4/10 but again there's only 13 reviews...couple of complaints about no optical cable being included.

Reviews seem to be quite reasonable on Tesco (4.6/5.0 for 50 reviews):

http://www.tesco.com/direct/lg-las350b-120w-soundbar-with-bluetooth-external-sub/436-4575.prd?skuId=436-4575&pageLevel=sku&icid=spiffy_lg%20soundbar_436-4575_lg soundbar

And John Lewis (4.7/5.0 for 26 reviews):
http://www.johnlewis.com/lg-las350b-2-1-bluetooth-sound-bar-with-wired-subwoofer/p1981501

I guess it depends on what your expectations are and I doubt you'd get a better soundbar for the same price but happy to be proved wrong...put it this way I figure it has to be better than the 20W Goodmans one I got ages ago from Tesco for £29

I thought these would be connected by a HDMI cable alone, didn't realise you need an optical as well.
tiggerloveslife to guvner12
5 May 16 #6
Apparently you do according to some of the reviews which also state that it isn't included in the box...think there is something about being able to link it using Bluetooth if your TV is compatible but didn't pay too much attention to this bit as knew I was going to need an optical cable....

They dont have hdmi. only optical. so no cec for volume control

HDMI is input on a TV and carries audio and video, it wouldn't make sense to connect a soundbar via HDMI, plus you'd need the TV on the right HDMI input. Maybe you can but it doesn't make sense to me.

Optical is an output on a TV which makes perfect sense it would connect via optical.

Very good price indeed, heated!

Can't believe how cheap these are getting. I thought I had a bargain with the Goodmans Soundbar and Sub set a couple of months back at £39. While I have no complaints at all, around £10 more for an LG set of a clearly higher quality is a no brainer in my book....

I'm not too sure where you get this idea from as the reviews I've read seem ok...yes it's not a top of the range product but then you'd pay a lot more for it...

Was going to say the same earlier!

It sold well when it was reduced [in the real world and sold for the higher price, not mickey mouse rrp] from
£129 to £79 and as UM20 has stated the sound on these and features included are very, very good for a
soundbar + sub ;-)

Previous thread with info / reviews / spec / blahdyblah:

HEAT+ on this price for this model, the soundbar is packed with features, connections and the
music flow app for controlling the device is brilliant, you can also match this lg soundbar with
any lg tv via the wireless link, which means you have the OPTICAL or AUX still free for other
sound / amp / blahdyblah input..

Also, this pairs with 3 bluetooth devices NOT 2 like most, again these are BT4, you also get
the wall bracket in the box, which means you can put it on the bracket near or under your
wall mounted tv, but still move it if you want to put it / use it somewhere else ;-)

Amazing bit if kit for under a nifty and also, in my humble opinion, much better than some
pc surround 5 speaker kits that are 4 times the price.. the DTS digital surround Via the
optical link output is brilliant for what it is and the subwoofer is deep enough for all those
scary bits in Texas Chainsaw Massacre and *Banging* enough for all your Chuuuunnes!

>>>>>
Yep, its cool, perfect for using as a remote, but you get a really featured remote with it as well, would not
let the fact that you cannot turn c.rappy old sky boxes up and down with it, be a reason not to buy it at
this stupid cheap price!

>>>>>
Well someone has to take one for the team Tigger!

Would ignore all the c.rappy reviews, for £80 it was a blooming great buy, for £50 new it is a steal!
The main thing some [not all] buyers on hukd forget, is a lot of the items that are *cheap* are just
that, this is a top manufacturer, who has been making kit for over 50 years now.. yes they were
garbage components in the 90's, throughout their whole range but now, brilliantly put together kit
with a view to the item lasting more than a week!!!

Being one of hukd's un-official *uniquegeeks* [still waiting for my badge Jen!!] can honestly say
that this is "almost" as good as the GDSBT150OP soundbar + subwoofer deal I posted a little
while again, the goodmans is slightly louder and has a touch more "bass" flat out.. but as you
have stated it is not a million pound 22 to 1 surround system costing the earth either!

Fired up the new Mad Max 4K ultra hd blu-ray with this whilst testing it, prior to going back to
Soundblaster Creative iRoar [now that IS a speaker!!!] and having seen it at the cinema with
thx 5k surround, it sounded fantastic for what it is..!
tiggerloveslife
5 May 16 #28
Whey-hey someone confirming a positive experience using it as someone keeps saying the reviews aren't good but I thought they were perfectly reasonable but then I'm not expecting full blast me out of my seat cinema surround sound quality :stuck_out_tongue:

My Tv is LG and has the sound sync wireless option so could connect this without optical lead. Is there any benefit to doing this apart from not having to use the extra cable (which i have anyway) i take it the soundbar requires a power lead so will need to put that in trunking anyway..... Just wondering if the optical lead will produce a better sound then the wireless connectivity ?

I have an lg 40lf630 bought from curry's hooked up with wireless sound Lynn. Works fine and even over Bluetooth the bar turns on and off with the TV. I'm using the magic remote An-mr600.

My only gripe is you can turn off the display but when you power off and back on the display resets.

Sound is better than the TV standard

Hot from me. We have one of these, bought 6 months ago for £129.99. I was very skeptical going from a 7.2 Onkyo AV receiver with huge floorstander etc [part of a 'trying to gain more space' exercise]. But I was very pleasantly surprised. It took a week or two to get used to [the difference in sound], but am very happy with it. The bass is about right, doesn't look overly small under our larger sized TV, the wireless sub is an absolute blessing, it does loose connection to the sub every now and again, but fixed by flipping the switch, I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the market for one of these, and at this price its a steal!

The reason you may not find one/some/any in a certain geo location for a store, is the stock
is held and distributed on a needs basis.. some bigger stores may only have 1 or 2 in the
first place, until some of the smaller stores sell more of them [like a test bed] and then the
larger stores get some more for stock.. this is why the larger store buyers from DSG group
keep the stock levels low, you will also find the first place a "yellow sticker" item at 50/60/70%
off its true|real world price, is mostly found at the larger mega stores, as they dump their not
selling very well stock or demo one or two of stock first..

I'm assuming it depends on the person you speak to as I just called the customer services number chose option 1 for electrical goods. I explained to the person that I didn't want to do business with currys as I had a bad experience and preferred to buy it through John Lewis if they could price match. I was met with no resistance whatsoever and the phone call took less than 5 mins. Looks like another poster mentioned they got it over the phone so it may be a case of getting the right person as mentioned

Edit: I've got the email confirmation for the order so it's definitely gone through at £49.98

Just collected mine, the guy said its not often you see one of these for that price and they would normally try and sell product cover but if anything went wrong there would probably not be anything like that they would be able to replace it with. I told him it was showing as out of stock everywhere else locally now but he checked the system and it showed limited stock left in Braehead, Livingston and East Kilbride but I don't know if that's reliable or if the system also shows stock for reserved items. Sometimes devices are connected to one another using HDMI even if it's just to carry sound, a/v amps for example. By doing so instead of using an optical cable (as you rightly said that is for digital sound only) the tv remote from a LG tv can operate this soundbar using CEC. If it were connected via optical cable only it may not be possible?

I've just been able to order this for home delivery & had confirmation email
Wasn't able to do that earlier so will see if it goes through

It will be a glitch as it is showing up available in all stores within 50 miles of me for Pay & Collect.

5 May 16 #104
I think that's because they have them in the main warehouse and it'll be delivered to the store of your choice, it doesn't say you can collect them within a few minutes which reserving them does. Just managed to order one for home delivery and one to collect in store too. Must have had a new shipment in.
Looks like they've all gone back out of stock. I'll be cancelling one of mine as ordered two by mistake so hopefully that will become available to someone tomorrow.

Possibly. Last time the same thing happened with the Logitech G920 I ordered after it was out of stock for a while and it became available online. I ordered, it went through and then I received an email the next day that the item is out of stock and order has been cancelled.

I think I've had that happen to me with Currys as well. Though I've just had an email saying they're "processing" my order, whatever that might mean.

6 May 16 #110
I managed to reserve one at Llanelli Currys, I then received a voicemail from Currys telling me that the item was ex display and if i still wanted it they would remove it from display and box it.. I'm cynical and wonder if this is true and maybe tried to hold on to it for a staff member.. Anyways i phoned Cardiff John Lewis and they price matched in less than 3 minutes and deliver the item for £3.50.. Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner..!

I just chanced my arm and ordered for online home delivery tomorrow. Got my order acknowledgement and then got my sales receipt about 10 minutes later advising order processed.

Might be worth having a go if none in stock for local pick up.

Will be returning my tesco bought bar of the curry's bar comes tomorrow and saving myself a further £30 from the tesco deal if it's not an ex display model.

Got my price match rejected last night which I told them in the comments field I had one reserved at my local Currys. Replied to email with a copy of my reservation and now waiting for reply. Fingers crossed as a relative wants one now.

The manual that comes with them is a bit short on information. Has anyone figured out what the extra feet are for? I'm guessing they replace the feet on the bar to make it a bit taller and fit over the TV's base? Either that or they go on the sub?
P13ULC
6 May 16 #116
Haven't seen them to confirm but are they not isolation feet to improve sound quality and avoid transfer of vibration through the TV unit/stand or floor depending where you position the speaker

Ditto have just placed another order for Home Delivery...showed 11 available in stock for Home Delivery when I was ordering and have received the order confirmation and processing emails...just waiting to see whether or not it is dispatched...have also sent JL an email asking them to explain their refusal to match the price (ok will admit I'm in a bit of a grumbly mood this morning which really isn't like me but thought I may as well put it to good use and take it out on JL rather than anyone else...lol...) as fed up with them claiming to being never knowingly undersold and using excuses to getting out of their price match promise...in my case I guarantee that every time I submit a price match request I will get no reply until about 5mins after the item has gone OOS at the other retailer and this time was no different...wouldn't care but I submitted the price match request at 4.14am so must have been about the first to do so...thankfully I had "evidence" to attach to the email so will now see what they say about it....

Definitely showing as back in stock for Home Delivery at the moment...for anyone wanting to use JL to try and get a price match I would advise taking a screenshot to show them after they refuse your price match

Actually have just re-thought that...if you definitely want one I would just order it from Currys to make sure you get it.

6 May 16 #122
The manual is shocking lol

One thing I learnt is to access the dimming option for the lcd display you have to press sleep on the sound bar remote.

I have 2016 lg TV and 2016 magic remote and they work together fine over Bluetooth but the on screen menu from the magic remote lacks the sleep button and annoyingly after you power down the bar and turn back on again the lcd display comes back on.

I still am happy with my tesco deal at £79 bit if my curry's order comes tomorrow at £49 happy days :-)

Thank you patch18, picked mine up yesterday. Item is brand new and security sealed. Sounds really good, I would say it has just the right amount of bass for me.

Just some additional information:

- If you have a smart LG TV purchased since 2013 then you should have a wireless audio sync option. This allows you to connect to the sound-bar wirelessly. Whilst it technically is bluetooth this option is for LG to LG supported devices only. The LAS350B supports this. My TV shows as not having bluetooth but having wireless audio sync so I cannot connect any random bluetooth device but I can connect any LG product that supports it. I have the 43UF770V and have connected using this method and works great, there is no audio delay at all. There is a video on connecting via WebOS here.

- It comes with 2 riser feet which you can stick over the exiting rubber feet. I have used these to lift over the stand so I can get it closer to the TV as mine is not wall mounted. They lift the bar by about 1/2 - 3/4 inch.

- You can download the LG Music Flow app (iOS and Android) and stream music directly to the sound-bar.

- You have different equaliser settings for normal, music, movie, etc, as well as the ability to auto power on/off with the TV (if supported), dim or turn the display off, sleep timer and a night mode (which reduces the volume by about 1/2 so each adjustment in volume is smaller).

- In the box is the sound-bar, subwoofer (wired), ferrite core (for subwoofer cable - fitting example), remote control + batteries, wall mount brackets, riser feet and a very basic manual. Full manuals, help and support can be found here.

I have just ordered mine from John Lewis as I was fortunate enough to get a price match. I don't think they would have honoured it normally but they made a mistake with the initial price match (thought I was asking for a price match on some coffee machine!) so I wrote back and complained that they had messed my price match up and that I had since missed the opportunity to buy at the original retailer and they agreed to do the price match as a goodwill gesture, which was very nice of them - great customer service from John Lewis.

The main benefit of buying at John Lewis over Currys in my eyes is a longer standard guarantee period of two years, which just makes the deal even better, a decent brand soundbar and sub that is guaranteed for two years for under £50 delivered to my door, couldn't be happier with that.
Lickeh
6 May 16 #128
Only had a quick play so far but my preference seems to be cinema mode with the sub at level 3. I think I will turn DRC on and auto volume on and see how I get on with those enabled.
ashtad
6 May 16 #129
Whats the auto volume do
ST3123
6 May 16 #130
It generally is for balancing the volume level between sections of a movie say or between a TV programme and the commercials i.e. it reduces the dynamic range to give a more level or flat sound. Some TVs and AV receivers have it too. I tried it on a TV that had it but didn't like the effect on the sound, seemed to make it 'harsher' though some implementations are probably better than others so basically just give it a go and see if you like it....

Managed to order one for free delivery and received an "order processing" and "order acknowledgement" email but nothing since. Placed order around 14:30ish. I have one slight gripe with it..... If you have a lg tv made after 2013 you can connect this wirelessly..... Now this is fine works great but when you change the input to Bluetooth for example for playing music from your phone and switch back to the lgtv input it doesn't auto reconnect.... The only way of it reconnecting is to switch the tv and soundbar off and on again...... My advise is to use the optical as this don't happen then
lanky666
7 May 16 #138
@Ashtead could you not re-select lgtv on the bar and then on your TV settings select TV speaker and then reselect sound sync to force a reconnection? I've not tried it but it's a thought to save turning off both and off and on again.

Just opened mine up to set it up and there's no remote or manual in the box, looking online for a manual and seems to be that you also get a wall mounting unit with it. Can anyone confirm before I take this back to currys? cheers.
lanky666
7 May 16 1 #142
I got 2 feet extenders wall mounting brackets remote batteries and set up guide with mine. Sounds like you have a repackaged exdisplay model. When I first reserved in Hereford they called back to advise it was ex display so I cancelled and reordered for home delivery and it's due soon so I'll check again.

The one I bought from tesco was complete.

Cool cheers, managed to get it set up ok using pure remote app on my phone but going to take it back and see what they say. Pity as the sound is more than decent for 50 quid.

Should have a remote control in the box but the wall mounting is just a few small metal bracket and screws in the polystyrene inner section of the package.

9 May 16 #147
Mine came today from John Lewis and my first thoughts are that it is a very nice looking piece of kit indeed, much more stylish than the comparatively functional Goodmans (GDSBT150OP) one and it even has a nice chunky style remote unlike the credit card thin piece of junk soundbars usually have.

However, my second thought was wow, for a RRP £130 soundbar it is very basic in some regards. For example the sub woofer is a passive model (not mains powered), which I haven't seen for years, with captive bell wire connection, which connects to old style spring clip terminals on the soundbar. By comparison the cheaper Goodmans had an active powered sub with a proper (non captive) RCA jack. The problem with any captive connection, especially one so flimsy as the bell wire on the LG is that if it gets snapped or even pulled out of the back of the sub box, it effectively renders the sub useless where as an RCA cable can just be reattached or replaced.

Also while the system is supposed to be 120 watts the soundbar says it is only 21 watts on the back, which looking at it's diminutive size I'd guess is accurate, so where do the other 99 come from? I can only guess the sub is supposed to have 99 watts of power, yeah maybe minus the 90 and you might be closer....

For £130 I'd be wanting to return it, for the passive sub alone, but looking at it as a £50 soundbar it actually seems to sound just fine (though I haven't heard a peep from the sub yet) and looks fantastic and the compact size means it would be a good space saving alternative to regular PC speakers, that's what I'm thinking of using mine for....
Vegeta
9 May 16 #148
The Samsung HW-J355 I have also has a passive sub. That also retails around £130 although I got it last year through Bespoke Offers for £82.

I haven't unboxed this LG yet but I got it for my PC.
ST3123
9 May 16 #149
I only have experience of 3 soundbars myself but seeing the active sub on the Goodmans one, I assumed they were now provided as standard but apparently I was wrong, and the Goodmans in retrospect was actually quite advanced for it's price. Anyway, I ran some test tones: http://www.audiocheck.net/testtones_sinebursts20-200.php on the LG just to make sure the sub was actually working and to be fair it does work fine though it can only get down to about 50hz and remain audible, where as I can detect output from a cheap Yahama active sub (probably about the equivalent of the one on the goodmans system) down to 40hz and the one on the JBL SB400 (to be fair a rrp £450 system) can produce audible output down to about 30hz....

Perhaps a limitation of it being passive? Or maybe I just need to turn it up a bit more. No matter, it does sound very nice for the price. As an earlier poster said, the Goodmans one probably has more raw power but the LG one seems perhaps a little more tighter and focused and certainly is nicer to look at.

Thanks to it's small size (the sub is also very small and easy to locate) at this price I'd recommend it to anyone as a good sound solution for a PC, provided you aren't bothered about surround of course...
Bargeinion
10 May 16 #150
Set mine up today and played some Uncharted 4 with it - brilliant sound and a huge improvement over my LG LAS160B soundbar! I like the fact you can control the bass, treble and the sub and because I like my bass for explosions etc, I turned the sub to full and use cinema mode

The only thing I'm not sure of is what setting should I use on my PS4 for sound output - PCM, Dolby or DTS?

When I move house next week I shall have it connected to my tv so this won't matter but for the meantime and for playing Uncharted, any suggestions?

Thanks

Did you return yours to Tesco and did they accept it?
lanky666
10 May 16 #152
Yes returned mine to tesco and refunded already. I ordered through click and collect but I believe if in mint condition tesco offer 30 days refund. I said I didn't like the size of it compared to my TV and the colour slightly off compared to my 2016 lg TV.
