Was looking for a new phone today after my G3 got nicked, was going to go for the G5 but for the price difference and spec difference this looked a much better choice.

Had mine since January and I love it. Battery life could be better but other than that it's a fantastic phone.

It's not a massive jump from the G3, barely noticed much improvement with the camera except in dark scenes but other than that didn't seem much different to my 32gb G3 so sent it back. All the G3's shortcomings seem fixed with Marshmallow too bar battery life which whilst better still isn't great but extra batteries are slim and cheap so that isn't really an issue. Can't say even now I'd pay the extra for a G4 over a G3.

I have this phone, and I love it however I would stay away, high chance your get a unit which will have a bootloop problems and it will be a pain in the ass, I unlocked my bootloader on day 1 and got bootloop dday 3, could not get lg to tfix because of the bootloader unlocked, luckily i managed to get it working on a custom rom
YoAlpha to whelan189
6 May 16#11
Actually, you can argue with LG, you're well within your rights to unlock your boot loader, the only time that LG can refuse to fix it on warranty, if the damage etc was caused by misuse, and since its a wildly proven, and even admitted fault with the phone - they can't say no, since the problem is irrelevant of the boot loader being unlocked, I guess I was lucky, I'm on the G5 now and my g4 is still going strong.

I spoke to them on email and he was just like 'no' not sure if i kicked up a fuss they would do anything, i don't think it would and going to court or similar i could imagine would not work, it does state when bootloading 'warranty void'
even though its clearly a phone widespread problems but lg do not claim this, they say it happens in a small %, what a joke
on another note how you liking the g5? i had the g2, then g3 then g4, and was so loooking forward to it however soon as it was annouced i was turned off, the bezels are not that sexy and i feel the samsung s7 looks better, wish lg carried on what they was doing before
and from what i see the battery change is done in same amount of time tacking the back off on the g4?

I did say argue, there's an EU directive somewhere(I can't remember it now) but it basically said that you're entitled to modify software or some crap like that.
Anyway, I'm finding the G5 great, I've had all since the G2, too.
There's a few minor problems/things I don't like, the slightly wonky bottom plate thing, but I knew that before I bought it, all in all it's a great phone and worth the buy (especially if like me, you got the free B&O speaker and earphones too!) :stuck_out_tongue:

Great phone, me and my partner had this phone, both just upgraded to the s7edge but she has gone straight back as it is a very nice package and not worth the extra for the s7. I bought mine from amazon and they just replaced it outright as the charger cable wasn't working properly, gives me a new one now to sell on if anyones interested? I would say keep an eye on the amazon price as their customer service is definitely worth a bit extra.

It can't be a year old yet as it was only launched here on the 28th May 2015. So assuming you got your phone brand new all you need to do is register on LG UK website, go to support and report a problem. They will collect your phone via DPD and put a new motherboard in it. It pays to keep your phone in good condition so warranty is not affected and don't ever ever buy a high end phone that's still in manufacturer's warranty second hand from a private seller. You may just find you are stuffed when it comes to a warranty claim.
Another point is that under EU law you have 24 months warranty and not 12 on electrical goods. LG have admitted there was a problem on early phones so fault was there at manufacture. If you bought your phone new from a business, have a receipt, delivery note or airtime agreement from a carrier you will get your phone repaired. Hope you haven't rooted it though but still worth a try. Mine wouldn't even turn on or charge. Replaced with a 602 serial and no issues. Something was wrong right from day one on mine as it was slower than my old S4 at times and would hand quite a bit.
If you get one of these and its a 505, 506, 507, 508 or 509 then send it back.

Battery life on this phone is impressive. You'll lose little power keeping it in standby all day HOWEVER screen on time is only approximately 3-4hrs - which is standard for modern mobile phone standards. If youre doing anything that keeps the screen on its wont last very long; neither will any phone.
Luckily, spare batteries cost peanuts so you can swap them over in an instant.
I would never buy a phone without a removable battery and microSD slot. This is one of the few flagships that has these features.

7 May 161#32
Yes the 603 motherboard they fitted went into bootloop after 3 weeks. During this time I hardly used the phone as it came back locked to Voda and they have a 30 day wait before they'll unlock a payg phone. The original motherboard only lasted 2.5 months. As the 603 motherboard was the latest available when my phone went in for repair, it's pretty clear LG haven't been able to identify the problem causing this bootloop issue.
I'm not getting it repaired a second time so using the Consumer Act to reject the phone and get a full refund. There's no way I'd recommend anyone risk getting this phone - any serial up to 603 at least is liable to bootloop.
Smartguy1
7 May 16#33
That's not very good is it. I had mine replaced with a 602 board in March. No issues to date but it's like a different phone. I nearly sent mine back when I got it as I noticed the waiting symbol on it a couple of times when I accessed the gallery and chrome. Something I very rarely saw on my Samsung S4. I decided to keep it but at least once a week when pressing the home button it would say 'sorry home has stopped'. It did the same occasionally on the camera app too. No such problems with the new motherboard and the phone is super fast. It would be interesting to know if LG produce the motherboards themselves or have them out-sourced.

Mine just started bootlooping (if I was lucky, most of the time it just wouldnt turn on). As it was from a 3rd Party Seller Amazon can only issue a full refund but I'd rather that than have to send the phone off for repair and wait weeks on end. Having looking at similar phones like the Huawei P9 you realise how good the hardware in the G4 is for the price. I am tempted to downgrade to the G3 though as my partner has a G3 and I've barely noticed a difference.
For those interested I ordered the phone in October 2015 and the Serial Number starts 506.

You won't be without your phone for weeks on end, 10 working days at the most. I had mine repaired direct by LG after Virgin couldn't offer me a replacement phone. Go to LG UK website. Register your device. Go to the Support page and report a problem. They will send DPD to collect your phone and LG will replace the motherboard. I did this with mine and got amazing service from LG. It may help when you fill out the form on LG Support to say that you have been offered an exchange of a different manufacturer !!

One of Mine failed yesterday so i went on there website and booked a repair even though i bought it used from ebay and have no clue when or where it was purchased from. The webpage did ask for those details and there is a box to provide proof of purchase but i did not use it,I wrote it was bought from O2 in November as theirs a O2 boot screen .
Today i got a call from there center saying they will send DP to pick up my phone on monday and it will take around 10 days the fix it and it wont cost me a penny. They even provide you packaging to put the phone in and the delivery will be tracked.
So all in all my 10+ years of buying LG products has not been been marred even after this little incident and will be buying the LG G5 at some point in the future. My 47" LG LCD is still going strong after 9 years of heavy use as a PC monitor which is more than could be said of the 40" Samsung i bought soon after.
My advice to any one is to just to lie about the purchase date if your warranty (no real proof needed) has run out as this is a manufacturing defect which should of been picked up before release which they corrected in a revised model afterwards.
Smartguy1
13 May 16#50
Yes, ignore the 12 months warranty. It doesn't apply despite their terms and conditions. Under EU law, of which we are still a member of the EU, 24 months warranty applies. LG have admitted publicly there are issues with the motherboard and have therefore admitted the problem was there since manufacture. All UK models should be ok up until May 2017 and if you have a problem after there you could always exercise your rights under UK law of up to 6 years warranty. Just make sure you take care of your phone as if it gets wet or has a smashed screen you have little chance of a claim. A £7.00 case and £3.00 screen protector could save you a lot of money.
I am also a fan of LG, having quite a few of their products which have been extremely reliable. Still have an old 47" LG LD450 about 8 years old. Excellent service by LG in repairing my G4.

I forgot to mention my LG G4 has been running perfectly since nov and the only difference in using it was last week when i started using a Anker 25W 5-Port Desktop USB Charger with PowerIQTM fast charging Technology and when i picked up phone it was red hot and in it's boot loop (i had left it charging before) seems like a bit of a coincidence to me.
Was any one else using a fast charger when there's failed too ?
I found LG support to be excellent. I returned an LG G2 without proof of purchase (I bought it 2nd hand), the phone developed a screen fault which is very common. I thought they'd ask for proof of purchase to check the warranty, but it was back repaired within a few days.
Just browsing this thread as I've picked up a 2nd hand G4 from a friend.
