I don't know much about specs really but looks nice for the money. Definitely nice to see it available direct from amazon
Only thing missing appears to be fingerprint scanner, and other 'Chinese' seem to have 3GB+ram and the ability to increase storage to more than this (although 16Gb+32Gb should be plenty for most)

I'm guessing this is Lenovo first uk sold phone they need to price accordingly
The Moto brand name allows them to inflate the price each year... Moto G 4th Gen will be around £170 so an extra 50 quid... Although 5.5inch which puts me off
It just means it will not format/licence proprietary exFAT from Microsoft, you can still format a 128GB Capacity card FAT32 (well that's what you do with a 3G Moto G 2014 5'', also states upto 32GB, but 128GB cards work)
Odd that is only has Android 5.1, because the Moto G 2014 5'' has had Android 6.0 Marshmellow for 3 months now. I think they are just covering themselves, but I wouldn't pre-order until that was certain. Good phone if it gets 6.0. Motorola haven't really given previous Moto G 2014 Users much of an upgrade path, if you rely on Dual Sim, upto now.
Battery Capacity is 2750mAh, for people trying to find out.
wenttoabetterplace
17 May 16#29
One of the users on GSM arena state that their 64GB card doesn't work in the phone (whereas an 8GB card does).
May well be due to it being formatted incorrectly....but then again, it may not.
Too many unanswered questions about this phone. Better to sit and wait I reckon

17 May 16#33
Its because the card is pre-formated exfat for sizes 64GB and above, if you format the card using to FAT32, it will work.
(NB.'Formatting' a SDCard will erase anything thats on there, so don't do this with a card you are using) https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ should restore it to the standard SDCard format.
My VW car won't recognise exFAT SDCards, but it recognise FAT32 fine if used, on larger card sizes 64GB+. Trouble is FAT32 is not as reliable on larger SDCards, hence why exFAT is used.
wenttoabetterplace
17 May 16#34
Actually, this rings a bell (I did the same thing to make a 64GB card work on a Sandisk Sansa MP3 player).
Still, it's a strange limitation for a new phone (even if a workaround is possible)

It's broadly the same spec as the K3.
Even though it's is priced well, in comparison to it's previous offerings it isn't as much as a bargain as the K3 release.
According to Tech Radar "The Lenovo K5 seems to be a rebadged version of the Vibe K5 Plus".
Also the Amazon page states the phone is "Full HD", so if it turns out to be lower than that you'd have good grounds to return it.

My comment was based on the spec from ebuyer and scan and also on the spec/price of the phones available in Europe, all are the basic K5 with 415 processor and 720 screen.
Amazon.es says 'Pantalla táctil de 5 pulgadas 720x1280 con tecnología HD/WXGA' which translates to '5-inch touch screen with 720x1280 HD / WXGA technology.'

Not really, i currently own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which measures 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm with a screen size of 5.7" and a screen to body ratio of 74.8% which i'm quite comfortable with.
Choosing a larger screen doesn't necessarily mean having a much larger phone, which is why screen to body ratio matters a lot to me, i view a lot of content on my phone and i wouldn't sacrifice viewing pleasure for minimal reductions in body size.

Why? Unless you cannot get to grips with the G3's size? Do not be fooled by octo-core when most apps do not even utilise the extra cores.....quad core at 2.5ghz on the G3 with a far better screen, dual flash, NFC and wireless charging against this.....the G3 maybe two years old now but still holds its own against most budget to mid-range phones to this day.

Am I right in thinking this is a slightly better version of a Samsung Galaxy S4?
I can confirm that the UK K5 is the normal Vibe K5, not K5 Plus.
The screen is 720p, 2GB RAM, and the SOC is an Octa-Core Snapdragon 415 (specs are actually slightly lower than those quoted at GSMArena - Octa core: 4x 1Ghz A53, 4X 1.4Ghz A53, Adreno 405).

Would there be much difference in general usage between the 415 and 615-617 processors... 2gb ram with an octacore processor still sounds pretty good

chancooluk
23 May 161#98
I would be very surprised if you could tell the difference as the SOCs are almost identical. The main difference being the higher speed quad set on the SD415 is 300Mhz slower (1.2Ghz > 1.4Ghz) than the same quad set on the SD615 (1.5Ghz > 1.7Ghz). The GPU is also the same Adreno 405.

chancooluk
23 May 161#100
I'm not 100% sure, but I would guess that it will be significantly better than the P8 Lite, based on other similar panels used by Lenovo.
The P8 Lite has probably the worst example of a 720p IPS screen, along with the Huawei Y6 which uses the same dull and lifeless panel.

Just received my k5 - ordered from Tesco for £129.00
First impressions:
it's a 720x1280 screen.
A snapdragon 415. 8 core 1.4ghz and 2gb ram. Not a 616, so slightly slower memory and CPU speed, but the same chips and GPU.
It comes with a protective plastic case, a screen protector, a 1.5a charger, and headphones. Which seems good for a budget phone.
Dual Sim and a seperate micro SD slot
Updated immediately to android version 5.1.1.
Menu and back buttons the other way around to what i'm used to - back button on right, left button works as task switcher if held down, or menu button from a tap.
4g on giffgaff works
Feels a bit slow, but it is currently synchronizing all my old apps - Should speed up with use.
It's a different Android to my old Moto G 8gb. Has some interesting looking settings for controlling app permissions, background app use, route 66 navigation app, UC browser, FM radio...
Impressive sound quality for a phone. Camera seems fine.
Seems to be worth it... will give it a week!

I remember when I first got a smart phone and was completely amazed by it - the quality of the screen, speed, everything all impressed me. However, now, these things all just seem routine and normal.
With this phone, absolutely nothing stands out. This doesn't mean it is bad, not at all. It is just a completely useable, normal, acceptable, and straightforward phone - exactly what you would expect, and unremarkable for it. It's just anonymous and does the job. add your own car analogy here! But compared to an old Moto G, it doesn't really feel like a great leap forward in speed or functionality. So exactly what you should expect for the price.
Only one annoyance so far, and that is that the home / back / menu buttons are not back-lit, but are printed on, given a slight mirror finish. This makes them useless at night. I'll get used to them, but currently I just stab in the rough area, and it seems to get the right button most of the rime.
Battery life seems adequate to get through a whole day, as long as I leave the screen time out to 15 seconds, and brightness lower than max - auto brightness is very bright, and seems to chew through the battery life at a great pace.
You can easily switch to the standard android launcher - long press on the display, hit preferences, and there's an option to change in there. Most of the reviews say you are stuck with the Lenovo one, which has no app drawer - this is incorrect, the standard android is there and only takes a couple of clicks to get it running.
Camera is OK. it's a phone not an SLR. Focusing could be quicker.
It offers some features i've not seen for a while - auto on/off, replaceable battery, and a micro SD card, and a notification light. All good things that will give a good life to the phone. it's a good value phone for people who want something to last a while. It has a solid feel, a plastic case is included, and a screen protector.
AnTuTu benchmark: 30,858. (so in theory over 50% better than a moto g first gen, about the same as a galaxy s5).
CPU-Z reports it as a snapdragon 615, the box says a 415. It's 8 cores, 4 at max 1.36ghz, 4 at max 1ghz.
Another correction to the specs in the first post - it does not have infrared, and is android 5.1.1.
It was very good value from tesco using the clubcard double up offer available at the moment.
Has anyone else got one yet?

3 Jun 16#113
£130 sounds like a lot of money for an Antutu score of 30,000.
Can't speak for the quality of the phone that I have on order, but the Ulefone Paris sounds like a much nicer phone all around, (apart from slow charging) and was only £56 delivered.
Scored 36,000 on Antutu too...
Maybe there's some hidden benefit of buying this Lenovo phone - but I am struggling to see it.
AfroBum
3 Jun 161#114
The K5 doesn't seem particularly fast at charging.
The main advantage is you can buy it from Tesco, or amazon, return it easily, have a "branded" phone. It also includes a case and screen protector.. which might be an extra cost if that matters to you. So no worries about import taxes, it is fully set up in English, has google apps by default and things you'd expect. I agree that some other phones can be a bargain, but sometimes it isn't a straightforward easy experience. I don't know about the phone you've ordered - hopefully it is a good one!
I'd like to say i'd have more confidence that a Lenovo phone has less chance of spyware than a cheaper Chinese brand, but they don't have a great history to back this up!
I might return it and replace with the moto G 4. That appears worth the extra £30 for full HD, a faster running chip.
nigelbutler
3 Jun 16#115
Import phones will always be cheaper... whether they are still reliable after 6-12months is another matter. Holding charge etc. Seems battery life is the main drawback.
nigelbutler
3 Jun 161#116
Yeah I must admit that the Moto G4 does seem very tempting.... You'll be able to get it for £149 in a few months I'm sure
It may even be £10-12 on a 24 month contract with Tesco or CPW
wenttoabetterplace
3 Jun 162#117
The phone is coming from the EU warehouse - so no import charges. The Ulefone comes with stock Android (soon to be getting Android 6.0), and Google Apps installed by default. No adware (apparently).
Also comes with 2 screen protectors and a free cover that also acts as a clock or media player when closed.
I just can't see the benefits or the value of the Lenovo. They aren't a top tier phone maker (yet) even if they are a top tier computer maker, and don't seem to have a good track record of providing software updates.

3 Jun 16#118
Thanks for the update Afro. Sounds like it's an alright deal for the money, but if it was the better cpu and FHD screen then would of offered more of a wow factor, similar to when the 1st Moto G came out. As it stands, was thinking of getting one of these to replace my son's original Moto G, but might wait off for now.
Bit of a pain really as he doesn't want anything bigger than 4.5 to 5" screen, which counts the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 out, I said I could stretch to an iPhone 5s 32gb refurb with 12 months warranty but doesn't want Apple, so struggling to find a branded phone for £150 or less that would be a significant step up from the Moto G. Will keep looking I guess :disappointed:

3 Jun 161#119
Look at the feedback on the other threads about the Ulefone Paris. It may not be 'branded' (Lenovo are pretty tarnished, and hardly a big brand in phones) - but it does have v.good manufacturer support. From my limited experience, it seems like a top notch phone - and for only £56.
(Beats this Lenovo by 6,000 points on Antutu)

are you sure as it doesnt say so on the Amazon's item page :man:
I'm guessing this is Lenovo first uk sold phone they need to price accordingly
The Moto brand name allows them to inflate the price each year... Moto G 4th Gen will be around £170 so an extra 50 quid... Although 5.5inch which puts me off
liked the fact that it has -
- microsd (dedicated slot)
- 1080 x 1920 pixels
- removal battery
but not clear if it has NFC though?
but worried about -
(1) actual specs, especially if it has NFC
(2) if it will play well with 'xposed framework'

- dedicated microsd slot (p8lite uses sim2 slot)
- better screen resolution => 1080 x 1920 pixels (~441 ppi pixel density)
- faster processor => Quad-core 1.5 GHz
- Removable battery (p8lite has a non-removable battery)
- more powerful battery => 2750 mAh battery

Also, what is with the 32GB SD card limitation!?
Odd that is only has Android 5.1, because the Moto G 2014 5'' has had Android 6.0 Marshmellow for 3 months now. I think they are just covering themselves, but I wouldn't pre-order until that was certain. Good phone if it gets 6.0. Motorola haven't really given previous Moto G 2014 Users much of an upgrade path, if you rely on Dual Sim, upto now.
Battery Capacity is 2750mAh, for people trying to find out.
May well be due to it being formatted incorrectly....but then again, it may not.
Too many unanswered questions about this phone. Better to sit and wait I reckon
If yes get the Smart Ultra although its £115 again now
(NB.'Formatting' a SDCard will erase anything thats on there, so don't do this with a card you are using)
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ should restore it to the standard SDCard format.
My VW car won't recognise exFAT SDCards, but it recognise FAT32 fine if used, on larger card sizes 64GB+. Trouble is FAT32 is not as reliable on larger SDCards, hence why exFAT is used.
Still, it's a strange limitation for a new phone (even if a workaround is possible)
All the ones on Ebay are chinese imports various versions
thanks for the link
oh am going to wait on the moto g 4th gen no point even looking at phones now i know thats coming got £150 saved so i will have enough when time comes

May just be for the US but its unclear at the moment
But no stock yet. In their description it say its the 1080 screen and 616 processor, but doesn't say which model number, can't say Argos are always accurate.
This is the same one listed on ebuyer and scan, both say 720 screen and 415 processor which is the Vibe K5, not the Plus version..
Also on the expansys Italy website, as well as Amazon Spain, model number PA2M0093FR
http://www.expansys.it/lenovo-k5-16gb-dual-sim-silver-290304/
https://www.amazon.es/Lenovo-Vibe-K5-Smartphone-Octa-Core/dp/B01EJ581KC
Even though it's is priced well, in comparison to it's previous offerings it isn't as much as a bargain as the K3 release.
or the Meizu M3, looks like an iphone 5c, so perhaps more for a younger user, lacks the fingerprint scanner of the Redmi 3.

Also the Amazon page states the phone is "Full HD", so if it turns out to be lower than that you'd have good grounds to return it.
Amazon.es says 'Pantalla táctil de 5 pulgadas 720x1280 con tecnología HD/WXGA' which translates to '5-inch touch screen with 720x1280 HD / WXGA technology.'
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/vodafone-smart-ultra-6-black-back-99-99-amazon-2447929
is a better deal imo.
I know moto g4 is still classed as a budget decide but it's going to be £170 right? What price is the limit for a budget phone? I mean I guess at the flagship devices continue to increase their price anything cheap in comparison is considered budget so it's only natural prices will rise. Pity lol
In my eyes Budget phones should around £100 really - Certainly below £200 but I dont consider £170 cheap!
This is interesting specs - http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_p9_lite-7983.php
http://www.techradar.com/phones
£239!? :O :disappointed:
Blazing fast octa-core processor
Dolby Atmos speakers
5 inch HD display
13 MP camera
5 MP front-facing camera
Battery 2750 mAh
Android 5.1
Dual micro SIM support
I must admit I do like Marshmallow... because it makes my Moto G 2nd gen run much much better and the Doze in built standby makes the battery last a lot longer in standby and deep sleep periods
Quick review here. Speakers are certainly loud, I'd be putting Nova Laucher on , removable 2750 battery and dual sim will keep some happy, nice aluminium casing.... full specs still to be revealed... but is qualcomm octa-core which seems good enough.... hd only but thats better for battery
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxM-WR4CUzI
Very nice ... extra £40 but possibly worth it, 3000mah battery, Android 6.0.1 ,2gb ram , snapdragon 617
I wouldnt buy just yet if you want Full HD - On the upside the screen still looks good
Dolby Atmos speakers
5 inch HD display
13 MP camera
5 MP front-facing camera
Battery 2750 mAh
Android 5.1
Dual micro SIM support
With its 5 inch wide-view display, the Lenovo K5 brings movies and games to life in stunning HD. Kick back with the latest blockbuster or take your gaming to the next level and enjoy outstanding clarity, pixel after pixel.
Choosing a larger screen doesn't necessarily mean having a much larger phone, which is why screen to body ratio matters a lot to me, i view a lot of content on my phone and i wouldn't sacrifice viewing pleasure for minimal reductions in body size.

Here, again shows 720 screen, 415 processor. Reliable company.
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2016/05/17/lenovo-k5-coming-soon/
https://www.clove.co.uk/lenovo-vibe-k5
The screen is 720p, 2GB RAM, and the SOC is an Octa-Core Snapdragon 415 (specs are actually slightly lower than those quoted at GSMArena - Octa core: 4x 1Ghz A53, 4X 1.4Ghz A53, Adreno 405).
None in stock today at Amazon
If anyone gets a hands on go with one please leave a quick review
The P8 Lite has probably the worst example of a 720p IPS screen, along with the Huawei Y6 which uses the same dull and lifeless panel.
Can I ask what mobile you've get or one that you could 100% recommend?
I'm looking for replacement to my 1gb Moto G 2nd gen.... Want 2gb ram and 5 inch screen really. 5.5 probably too big for me?!?
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lenovo-k5-smartphone-sim-free-dual-sim-129-99-grey-black-pre-order-30th-2016-amazon-2452506
besides -
this is for the white/silver one only and the other thread is for the grey/black, so different target customers
that was pre-order for 23rd May 2016 and this is pre-order for 30th May 2016
...so different
Also hoping to see some reviews soon on the silver/white released on 23 May - that way can decide whether or not to cancel.
i cldnt find it then
if it was available then, it wld ave had the same release date as the white/silver one...or a closer date, not a release date of a week after the white/silver one is released.
I am not getting into a pi$$ing competition over this.
I pre ordered on 18th May for a release date of 30th May.
End of.
In case you missed it...all i am sayin is -
I cldnt find it then, that what i am saying and i believe i have a right to
so yes end of
This is part of the problem with HUKD, is it not for educating or making users aware of deals that they wld prefer or not prefer?
but yet you always have to have certain ppl poking their finger in other ppl's eyes just because they can.
and all this from a user who has never or cldnt be bothered to post a deal in 10yrs.
so yes - End of
I guess they will all be on the same container.
Yeah give it a week and let us know what you think! It will be slow whilst doing all the app updates etc
Cheers
Can't speak for the quality of the phone that I have on order, but the Ulefone Paris sounds like a much nicer phone all around, (apart from slow charging) and was only £56 delivered.
Scored 36,000 on Antutu too...
Maybe there's some hidden benefit of buying this Lenovo phone - but I am struggling to see it.
It may even be £10-12 on a 24 month contract with Tesco or CPW
The phone is coming from the EU warehouse - so no import charges. The Ulefone comes with stock Android (soon to be getting Android 6.0), and Google Apps installed by default. No adware (apparently).
Also comes with 2 screen protectors and a free cover that also acts as a clock or media player when closed.

I just can't see the benefits or the value of the Lenovo. They aren't a top tier phone maker (yet) even if they are a top tier computer maker, and don't seem to have a good track record of providing software updates.
(Beats this Lenovo by 6,000 points on Antutu)
I have the p8lite and find the screen dull and blurry
Tried holding the phone in various ways and even speaking right next to the mic, makes no difference. Can't find any settings to adjust the mic volume. Any ideas people!?
also does it have NFC?
Thanks
After a few reboots the sound seemed to be a bit louder.
