I bought this on Thursday, delivered friday on the standard delivery of £5. It is the 4gb ram, 1080p screen version that is at least £229 new
I am insanely happy with it.
I also got a couple of quid from Quidco.
A chromebook is pretty much perfect for most people and especially for kids/ teenagers who need to browse the web and do some homework. Google docs will export to MS Office formats so no worries there.
For work, i use web based systems so this is perfect for having with me just in case i need to log in and do a few things, no need to carry around my mac. The battery life is superb too.
The apps work offline generally so you don't have to be connected.

Will this model get Android app support? Great price, but I think the app support is a key decider now for me. voted hot though!

no, i don't think it will get android app support.
I figured that i'd see how much use it got by me and then consider buying one with android app support (maybe the flip to replace my n7 that is nearly 3 years old now)
Um. I bought a chromebook less than a fortnight ago and I'm impressed, it will do most of what I want it to do, but it isn't as good as this one. Should I buy this?. The main consideration is whether the Mrs would strangle me should another one turn up at the door.

What popular apps do not work on this chromebook?

Reviewer doesn't rate the FHD screen. The Toshiba chromebook 2 supposed to have a sexy FHD screen.

I'll be the reviewer, anything is better than this 720p thing I have right now.
The Toshiba one is also over £100 extra

Chromebooks are great. I surprised myself after years of Mac and Windows laptop use. They just work. Have to say tho the 4gb makes a big difference in usability when you have multiple tabs open in Chrome. The HD screens are great too. Worth paying extra for. I sold off my 2GB v1 Toshiba, which I did like, and got the 'sexy FHD' 4GB v2 a few months back. Well worth the £110 extra I paid.

I'm like you, for the last year I've been waiting for a chromebook deal with FHD screen, also there are compatibility issues with some app's. I would rather wait. Don't get me wrong this is a good deal.

Yeah, this is a great price for a better screen. My chromebook is all I use now, it's on for 6-7hrs of the day. The one I have now is 2yrs old bought second hand, still amazing but I'd like something a bit better.
Never used apps on it however, I have read a lot on the (bluestacks)? to use android apps, but never gone into it any further. I just use it for Youtube, here and reddit :man:

You can get the best of both worlds - ChromeOS for instant fast cloudy stuff and *ubuntu running as a chroot for offline complexy stuff. I run Kubuntu for GIMP, Thunderbird, alternate browsers, Filezilla and, of course, LibreOffice with a file structure I can understand. A bit of Googling will show you how.
Frankly the ratio of using ChomeOS/Kubuntu surprised me. Unless I'm developing ChromeOS is nearly always all I need.
The downside of this model is the processor which rules out using Wine for Windows apps (remember them?).
I don't think so. You can if you modify the bios on most (if not all) Intel-based Chromebooks but I have never seen anyone claim to be able to do the same with a Tegra-based machine like this.

First of all you really need to ask yourself why you'd want to run a Linux distro on this. If you do have a programme that cannot be duplicated on a chromebook then here is a way of running Ubuntu on an SD Card or USB (which is what I do purely for Python/Idle). Seriously though, I came from Ubuntu (which I started from v 10:04). I found a suitable alternative for KmyMoney (a MS Money alt) and, unless you are a pro photographer, Polarr or Pixlr are very able substitutes for PS or similar. I now run an HP 14 Chromebook quite happily and there are also many web-based IDEs etc that will accommodate many developers needs. Chromebooks are excellent, start in no time, don't get AV nagging/updating (you don't need AV at all) all day battery life and cater for most people's needs.

To be honest, it was more to know if there would be a backup option and out of curiosity I guess!

Compared to my other chromebook, it's pretty damn good.
Really nice and crisp, clear. If you're looking at it head on, like most probably do its amazing. Tilted too high or low it polarises, expected I guess.
Silent too, can't hear it's on. Snappy too, great watching vids in 1080 properly now. Happy with that!
