Edit: also available from Robert Dyas at £14.99 RobertDyas - thanks to nguaddar for the find.

First post - please be kind :-D

The KitSound MyJack opens up a world of musical possibilities, enabling you to connect your Bluetooth enabled device to your car radio, or any speaker or hi-fi with a line input.

MyJack replaces your inconvenient aux-in cable. You could not ask for anything simpler: just plug in, sync with your device through the latest version of Bluetooth, and go. You can even connect two devices to the MyJack at the same time, so you and your friends can mix up the playlist.

Once your MyJack is fully charged and paired to your device, you don’t need anything else – just pop it into the aux port, and hit play. You don’t need any other cables, any downloads, or any technical knowledge. The small and compact design means you can keep your car neat and tidy, and with excellent voice detection, you can even use it to take calls as you drive.

* It is the only one I've seen in such a bullet-like design.
* I see that the maximum playtime is 5hrs, which may not work for everyone.
* For £25 on Amazon, £18 on the manufacturer's website.
* Disclaimer: Not used it myself as my car has built-in bluetooth streaming.

Hi PaulLFC - For that, I use the aukey bluetooth transmitter. I've plugged it into the TV and can watch late night TV with audio over bluetooth headphones without being a nuisance to anyone. Here is the amazon link

Was hoping this would work the other way - i.e. convert a headphone jack into a Bluetooth transmitter for sending audio to wireless headphones.

It's a mushroom shaped plug that goes into your car cig socket and is not much larger then a USB power adaptor, in fact it has that built in too.
Main thing is, it sends your Bluetooth from phone to an FM frequency. No wires anywhere. In 2 different cars I get remarkably good results, just like a wired connection and faultless auto pairing. Also a great hire car solution.

It can handle calls through it too, and has a built in microphone. So no, if you only want to play music direct from your phone say, then stuck with a cable, but if you want it to handle calls etc, then this is a decent system

I have a similar solution using a jabra bluetooth receiver plugged into my car, however people on the other end of the line when I'm on a call complain they can hear themselves. Does anyone know if this has that issue?

I've tried a few of these out, they're pretty pony.

I ended up buying a new head unit that supported Bluetooth. Admittedly 40 times the price, but it works a lot better

Electronic noise is certainly a PITA. Have you tried a 3.5mm ground loop isolator? I remember reading a lot of Prius owners used those.
meathane
31 May 16 #50
Is there the other way round for this? I'd like RCA out to Bluetooth so I can buy a turntable that BT's out to my stereo. The Ion Air LP does this
MrWani
31 May 16 1 #49
As mentioned above. If my phone is charging while plugged in to aux all you'll hear is engine interference. The Bluetooth negates that issue. However the same applies to my Bluetooth dongle if that is charging at the same time (engine interference). I charge mine while listening to the radio or at work. I can then charge my phone on the go.
Just consider this before hardwiring in behind your dash.
mrew42
31 May 16 #48
Yes, but this doesn't need a separate cable - it is its own USB plug
jacksonliam
31 May 16 1 #47
Oh yeah completely agree about not wanting to have to plug a cable in. Too much faf every time you get in the car! (like how does it take people 5 minutes from getting in their car to pulling away from the fuel pump )

I meant run a right angle cable to a apt-x Bluetooth receiver hidden somewhere. (glove box, center console, passenger footwell, under passenger seat, Ash tray, behind/below head unit)
Loathecliff
31 May 16 #46
While waiting for the Roberts dongle from Hughes Direct the other week, I was using this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121924646245?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
As it's now 8p cheaper than I paid, and to my, usually fussy, ear it sounds fine, (& not that compressed), I wonder why I paid an almighty £9 for the Roberts.
inkman_
31 May 16 #45
No arguments there. Personally, I have a preference towards the look and styling of this product. Would I pay more for it? Well I just did
inkman_
31 May 16 #44
Different strokes for different folks. Right-angled cable or otherwise, having to pass the stereo jack to a passenger in the backseat is cumbersome. Also, depending on average journey-time, you probably wont need to keep this plugged in at *all* times. For me that is a form-factor win

Can't argue with your reasoning around Apt-X.
fleischyy
31 May 16 1 #43
Should say you can buy a BT dongle off eBay of £2 and grab necessary usb cigarette lighter converter for USB etc for another £1 and it works just as well
inkman_
31 May 16 #42
Hi - this is USB powered too.
mrew42
31 May 16 #41
For that precise reason i've got a USB powered bluetooth receiver.
Just like this one

jacksonliam
31 May 16 1 #40
Setup tasker or llama to set the volume a few seconds after headset connected.
jacksonliam
31 May 16 #39
The form factor is completely negated by the fact that this will either need a USB cable plugged in or you'll have to take it out and charge it every few hours of use (meaning there's no usability benefit over plugging in an aux cable).
Also no apt-x means this will sound like crap when you turn it up.

Get an apt-x capable Bluetooth receiver and spend 10 minutes neatly running a the Aux cable to it tucked behind some trim.

A decent right angle 3.5mm cable plugged in is going to look much better than this thing sticking out of your head unit.
slimy31
31 May 16 #38
Only problem is that some phones now don't generate a loud enough signal for head units to pick up. I have to have mine turned up really loud because the phone output is so weak, and then all I get is engine whine coming through the speakers.

What makes it worse is Androids frustrating tendency to turn the volume down to 65% whenever headphones are plugged in. (By the way, has anyone figured out how to disable this?).

Bluetooth does away with both of these issues.
makkax1
31 May 16 #37
If you're in the car then I'd suggest just using a cable, you are sat so close to the radio that Bluetooth isn't going to make your life easier, and you'll probably end up with a charging lead plugged in anyway, so what's the point? This is better for use in a home stereo.

This is more portable, you can use it without any wires. It also has a microphone so it can be used for hands free calling.

It'll work with a USB car charger, and connect to aux with a 3.5mm cable.

I bought this for around the £8 mark. As far as I can see it does exactly the same but is also a bit smaller and more functional with a clip etc. Also has pause, forward and back buttons. Comes with a variety of attachments including a 90 degree aux input which is very tidy in my car aux.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B012FAERMO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pleased with the performance so far although can sound a touch tinny on some songs.

I have one for less than half this price from Techtronics that lasts as long if not longer plus has buttons on it to play/pause/rewind/forward

These are a great device for those of us who don't have in built bluetooth but I don't think its worth £15

This worth £15 as opposed to £1 for an aux cable?
inkman_ to jemmarocks
30 May 16 #16
Good point Jemma. I'd say that it depends on where the aux port is. If it's hidden in the glove compartment or centre storage console, it's no hindrance. But some of my friends have the aux port on the dash / in-car entertainment system. To them, It looks unkempt having a cable hanging in plain view all the time

I went for a slightly less elegant (but cheaper) solution, one of these;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272041631799

It will be wired into the head unit directly (power and aux in), then hidden in the dash. Obviously it's a very different approach for the same solution, but suits my need better. The main thing is the direct 12 volt power, no need for charging or even a USB connection (yes, my car is that old!!).
