So finally got my dream Weber BBQ and needed the accessories to go with it. Found the branded Weber Rapidfire Chimney (7416) on the Homebase website for £19.99 and went to have a look feeling rather mixed as I felt it was pricey but liked how it matched my other Weber bits.
Found this Jumbuck Charcoal BBQ Starter for £4.50 instore.
It's smaller than the Weber Rapidfire Chimney but I reckon it is about the same size as the smaller Weber portable version. At £4.50 it is excellent value and does the same thing at a quarter of the price. I could not find cheaper online even when I searched for other generic/non branded version
The shallow me had a little struggle wanting the more expensive Weber "because it matched"....I know...so shollow...
Must be instore only as I cannot find it or other Jumbuck products I saw instore online.

used a tesco one all last year with my Weber BBQ, worked great and very happy with it, this looks a good deal

Hmmm...I get what you are saying but is the Weber chimney really 4 times better at lighting coals? The price gap is massive. I could use a new Jumbuck chimney every year for the price of 1 Weber....

drilled few holes using a metal drill bit in an empty can (used tinned tomato can) both on the sides as well as bottom and it works fine. Only issue was lack of a handle but mentioning it for those who want a quick DIY solution

in fairness this is a good price, my main thing for the Weber is I have the 57cm grill and it can use a fair whack of coals so the bigger size helps...
but to show a point, my starters stay out in the elements all year, no shed or cover.. Weber purchased 2011 non Weber purchased 2014 so it is done alright for a cheapo. still would buy Weber though.. I have experienced similar with other products, cheapo pizza stone is meh but the Weber one is blooming great, flatbreads and thin crispy pizzas no problem.

Good points and thanks for the pic. The cheaper one has suffered much more and design spookily looks like a Jumbuck! £4.50 for 2 years use is pretty good.
I guess if you have a smaller and cheaper bbq that will fall apart or rust in a year or 2 then the Jumbuck makes sense. I have a brand new Master Touch 57cm so....

We have been given a kadai charcoal starter as a good will gesture. Does the job a treat. I'm sure this will do the same job, for a 10th of the price!

I have this from the end of last season sales, it's not lasted too well. As this guy says, you kinda get what you pay for. It's not until you've had Weber gear before you realise where that extra cost goes.

I got a 57cm Original MasterTouch in green.<3. Best deal I have ever had I think - Got it for £40 BRAND NEW unused with cover off ebay from a local older gentleman who bought it years ago but "never found the occassion to use it"!
The joy has been in just looking at it at the moment while I assemble my arsenal of tools. Bring on the sun!:smile:

the ikea diy version fails on several levels...
it would cost more than a pukka model
you often see these on offer... i got one for £3 from sainsburys a couple of years ago - still works.
its full of holes! so isnt a chimney at all... and thats why these things work!

Smoke, smell and pollution and an inability to enjoy your garden while the chavs in the neighbourhood can't stop themselves giving themselves food poisoning as soon as they see a sunny afternoon.
The same people who probably couldn't resist chinese lanterns until they got restricted.

I have to agree that you get what you pay for. I have a Weber & also a cheap starter. The cheaper one has deteriorated quite a lot & the air flow is not as good. I had to drill additional holes into it. Saying that I still use it to take camping etc so wouldn't mind too much if I lost it.

Picked up one today from the Kingston branch. Will buy the big Weber one when I see a good deal on it but this smaller one will certainly get plenty of use too. Thanks for posting.
