Wow what an epic gaming PC which doesn't even come with a graphics card.

Cheaper than the sum of its parts, but if you were to build a PC today you wouldn't use those parts.
Voted hot as it'd make quite a powerful general use machine, but nowhere near a gaming machine.

Ok value for the parts but its called a gaming pc and has no graphics card!!!!

It also only has 120gb ssd which is not much disc space at all, especially if you want to install games on it!!!

It also has no operating system....you will need to spend another (roughly) £300 to turn this into a gaming pc

rather misleading for them to call it a Gaming PC with no dedicated Graphics Card. Yes you could buy whatever spec gpu you wanted separately and install in yourself but if you were the type of person who was going to mess around doing that you are probably also the type of person who would just build the whole thing themselves and N1Andy has already summed that up nicely.

Hot as a general purpose machine but going to vote cold as I'd hate for someone to think this is a cracking deal for a Gaming PC, because it's not particularly.

Pricing all the components on ok prices, I make it £420 if you bought the items individually (without spending hours price hunting)

For anyone interested, the onboard graphics will run GTA 5 in 720p, normal settings at about 25-30fps. Obviously i'd recommend a dedicated GPU if you were to buy this.

"Gaming" PC aka PC with snazzy case with LEDs.
But overall a good setup at a good deal, and would go perfect with one of the new GeForce 1080/1070 cards and a separate 1TB+ hard drive to actually store any games

Exactly, and if it was for use as a gaming machine you'd see no benefit from the i7 so you could build a better i5 skylake based box for around the same cost plus your choice of gpu.

Benefit in this deal is just if you can make use of the i7 and want it prebuilt.

During the time you took to press hot, 10 other members could have voted cold so when you hit hot and the page refreshed it takes into account other votes. If you'd just hit F5 to refresh the screen you'd see the same effect. This seems to cause many members confusion unsurprisingly

There's absolutely no need to spend that much. A £150 graphics card would turn this into an amazing gaming PC. A £550 graphics card would turn this into an enthusiast-grade VR/4k-ready machine. You make PC gaming seem very expensive.

This build is cheap when you look at its parts, but is there any need for a top-of-the-range £250 CPU? It would be impossible for anyone to tell the difference if it had a £150 i5 instead.

Overall I don't recommend this. http://www.pcpartpicker.co.uk is a much better way to find a PC.

Agreed. At which point you might as well sell the i7 and replace it with a £100-cheaper CPU to save some money. At which point you might as well just build your own PC.

I imagine that such machines are primarily aimed at teenagers, hence the garish colours and designs of the cases, whom may not have the funds to buy the full rig in one go i.e. add the graphics card down the line.
I am currently building a gaming machine for my son and this is what we decided to do, relying on the internal graphics of the Skylake 6600K in the interim period. At the moment he's only interested in playing CS:GO and so we have no problem there. Plus, with the new Nvidia cards just about to burst onto the market, it's not a bad time to hold back on a purchase of a graphics card.
The 1150 won't take DDR4, nor the upcoming Kirby Lake, but I suspect neither will be in issue for the purchasers of this machine.

You'd be better to structure a PC more around gaming (e.g. save money on the i7 and spend it on more memory/different HDD configuration)

Go onto Reddit and check out https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme/

Lots of helpful people who will put a build together for you based on requirements/budget

It should do as the PSU is fine. If you can afford to buy a 1080 then I'd personally spend another £300 and buy a Skylake i5 based base PC, don't forget you also will need to add an OS to this.

Any link to the Z400 with X5650 for £150? Looking for a desktop machine to drive a 4k monitor at 60Hz, with SSD and fast processor. All for 2d work. Just need screen real estate, not 3d gaming.

Short answer: No

Long answer: Build one yourself, if you are confident you can put a card into a pc then you are pretty much able to build one yourself.

As above said, reddit build a pc is a good place to go and also PC Part Picker

Estimate your overall budget and remember that the 1080 is over £600 for launch.

An enthusiast would get a 1366 mobo and pair it with say, a Xeon X5670 and oc it to an inch of it's life. That's probably £140ish for the cpu and mobo. 128/256 SSD, case, PSU. Probably looking at about £260ish.. inc 8 GB of ram. Wait for Polaris 10/11 to come out and nab one of those or just get a R380 for £130ish. So total would be less than £400 without keyboard/mouse and OS. You'd have a slightly outdated motherboard, but performance would be equivalent to the 4790.

Of course you would have to put it topgether yourself

I just purchased this from Amazon for £855.34 : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IEDJQ50/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wanted an all round desktop which is future proof for next 3-4 years even though I know new graphics cards are coming out. It's from Amazon warehouse so I got 30 days to change my mind. Have I paid too much? Are there better desktops for the price? sorry my expertise on computers is not the best.
tahir_owen
24 May 16 #38
It is a lot of money, a 780ti is also a little outdated as Nvidia dont support older card with decent driver updates.=, but still fairly fast.

I'm sure you can get something much better on ebay. For that price you should really get a monitor as well.
MikeLondon
24 May 16 #39
Ouch I got a skylake i7 6700K with a gtx 970 6 months ago for less than this.... on the plus side you have a huge amount of RAM -DDR 3 :disappointed: and a 500GB SSD and windows OS.

Madtrex
24 May 16 #42
See I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. With the first few responses I've had seems like I'm paying too much for what I am getting. To add I would also want a PC that would work with HTC Vive etc. My order hasn't been dispatched yet so still got time to cancel.

ok it took me 2 secs to find this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intel-i7-4790-Quad-Core-4-00GHz-2TB-16GB-NVIDIA-GTX-960-4GB-Gaming-PC-VP-/272252500921?hash=item3f63837bb9:g:1oQAAOSwBw5XQ6Pm

£300 for a i7-4790. 2tb hard drive 16GB ram, gtx 960 video card - low end video card, but still decent.

Madtrex, you have a large budget, its hard to know where to start. But honestly you can buy pritty much anything you want. I would recommend a base pc without a video card, then buy a card after. Would recomment what AMD will bring out in the next few weeks. the GTX 1070 wont be worth it, in my opinion

what you're looking for is something like this but without the video card, if you take away the video card, then this system would be worth less than £200! you could but this and sell the 960 for £100+ on ebay

this is a great deal.....

I have been following VR - vive and oculus have stated that you need a GTX 970 or equivalent as a minimum. Unfortunately this will mean your PC falls outside of the minimum specs. In-fact the 970 in my opinion is not good enough you really should go for the 980ti - or wait a bit and get the gtx1070 - expected to come out soon, the 1080 which will be fantastic is out on Friday but will be at least £600. So it depends on how much you want to spend and if you can wait.

It's a stonking deal if true, was thinking about buying it myself!
tahir_owen
24 May 16 #49
Madtrex, don't rush your buying decision... take your time.
VR is more GPU bound than CPU bound, meaning the video card is much more important than the cpu.
The new video cards that are coming out, such as the gtx 1070 or the AMD 480 are much better for VR than say a gtx780 ti, gtx 980 or amd 390, well that's what the slides show, plus they'll have better driver updates and more features. So that means you have to wait a month or so, till the new cards are out in retail...
The 780 ti is not the card for VR plus it uses a lot of wattage

what you want is a basic pc build
i7 cpu something like the 4820k or 4770k
8/16 gigs ram
SSD (120/240gb) and a 1 or 2tb hard drive (I think a 240gb SSD anda 1TB hard drive is a good combo
450-500watt power supply, less maybe fine to depending on your video card
Somewhere between £300-£400
then add a graphics card afterwards

unfortunately you have to put in the hours and do some research.....
HTC vive is going to take a lot of effort to understand, it has so many possibilities and no doubt you;re going to have some issues

PS: ebay auctions are better than but-it-now, you get much better deals....

24 May 16 #57
Don't be daft. You don't need a 1080 for top gaming quality. I play at everything at native 4K with a 970. The 970 and 980 will be able to play games at 4K for some time to come.
Wait a year at least for the 1080 and it will be much cheaper, although by that time the the 1080 will be out of date. And a tiny tiny percentage will be on the next card even though the 970 and 980 will still do the job.
Dont get sucked into the childish upgrade ritual.
mark6226
24 May 16 #58
And don't forget that dd4 ram isn't any faster than ddr3. It's got lower power consumption but it won't run your games any better or faster.
thecresta
24 May 16 #59
Wow, that's a lot of storage!
tahir_owen
25 May 16 #60
Not quite true.... Its been shown that it does run faster. Check out didgital foundry's youtube vid, they clearly show it running faster than DDR3 and DDR3 comfortably ahead of DDR2. They showed it on Starwars Battlefront. The increase was around 10% I believe, but not all games would benefit.
tahir_owen
25 May 16 #61
It's plenty good.....just add a video card and you're done....
I'm sure it has plenty of overclocking potential, so even more future proof

Some of the components are very basic/though and it has a very small hard drive. You'd need to add a 1TB Hard Disk eventually

Yes and you could pay £200 for a 380GB SSD, £150 for a 4TB HDD and £400 for a graphics card. Total £750.

tahir_owen
25 May 16 #64
Now, what does a gaming computer comprise of? A fancy sci-fi type case (check), fancy lightling (check), an overclockable/powerful cpu (check), decent amount of ram (check), SSD (check). Powerful 80+ PSU (check), DVD drive for games (check), cooling fans (check)

All that is really required is you put in your own graphics card, which I think most people would understand as they wouldn't want to be choose their own card, perhaps a better cpu cooler , eventually you'll need a 1tb hard drive, but not straight away.
The only thing I would say is a negative, is that it needs faster ram, but not a disaster by any means. Most people these days will have their own copy of windows. And just add a cheap keyboard and gaming mouse.

Hi,
I was looking at the Ebay £430 pc you suggested which looks good, but is it ok to buy second hand? I'm looking to get a new pc; still want a tower and would use it for basic browsing and office work but also my other half would need it to play games such as Call of Duty. I've been told i need to get a pc with a good graphics card but I haven't really got a clue lol. Also have only ever bought pcs brand new from a shop for peace of mind, warranty etc but only have a budget of about £500 so not sure whats best to go for. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
tahir_owen
26 May 16 #66
The £430 pc is from Dell (vostro), so good quality.. The video card is more than capable, in fact on the second hand market it would cost you around £170, perhaps even closer to £200, although prices aer starting to drop. It will play any game at full HD resolution, although it does use more power than most cards. but that's not a major issue as the computer will mainly be used for office stuff and occasional gaming. I think it's a decent deal.
If you live you're going to pick it up (which seems like the only option)
you can have a play around with it..

If someone I knew was after something I would recommend this.

if you really want peace of mind then go for a new pc from ebay or elsewhere, many have warantee's

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-ROG-GR8-Core-i7-1TB-8GB-GeForce-GTX-750-Gaming-Desktop-PC-EX-DISPLAY-/272242669469?hash=item3f62ed779d:g:rYUAAOSw7W5XNt-i
I found this one, £500, 1 year warantee refurbished./ great looking case, comes with a gtx 750 ti which is worth around £75, low end card, but still quite decent, play games on medium settings at full HD resolution, plenty for COD
it's like a powerful laptop for you're living room, the cpu I believe is a Intel Core i7-4510U @ 2.00GHz, so not bad.... but not great. For basic gaming it's fine

heres a video card chart, you're lookign for a card which gets over 3000 points, it's not an accurate chart but in general usage it's fine

no harm in looking for a AMD system, I found one here, now, it needs a operating system also, keyboard and mouse, you'll need to buy a graphics card to, it does have a built in video, but it wont be so great, but it will play games at 720p rather than 1080p..... but it's only £229. if you're comfortable in installing you;re own OS and buy a keyboard, mouse and video card, it;s not bad and you get 3 years warantee and free del.

here is a link to an ebay page, you can decide wether or not you want to add a operatin system or other components, although it doesn't have a selection for a video card.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/PC-Desktops-All-in-Ones/179/i.html?_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo&_udhi=500&_nkw=gaming%20pc&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

if you find something, post a link and i'll have a look at it, but give me some time as im working.

This one aint too bad
£250+£30 del from London.

i7-3770/8Gb ram, Gtx 660/500GB Hard drive/windows 7

not bad at all, and if you're local even better, if this person accepts pick up that is.
not sure if it coems with a keyboard and mouse though

Forget the ROG that I posted above this one is much better, although it's from cash converters, it also includes a free monitor if you pick up (liverpool) otherwise extra £28 del for the monitor

it has a better cpu as well, which is a surprise

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Asus-ROG-G20AJ-UK016S-Core-i7-12GB-1TB-Gaming-Desktop-PC-reduced-/322102059877?hash=item4afec76365:g:0kEAAOSwLmVXD~dI

in fact its a very good deal if you're looking for something like this, although you wont be able to upgrade the video card as I believe its a half height card/case

tahir_owen, no comms from the eBay seller, listing removed. Opened a case, meantime I don't expect it to turn up and want to order alternatives in a reasonable time. Have keyboard/mouse/monitor/Windows/SSD ordered to go with it, so now looking for barebones or case/PSU/motherboard/CPU with cooler/RAM +- graphics card. Seems that Skylake will do 4k 60p with onboard graphics if the motherboard has Displayport 1.2. I was unclear if I would have problems with GTX 7xx series instead of 9xx series to do 4k 60p, although the monitor will also do it through HDMI 2.0.
tahir_owen
26 May 16 #71
Any video card should be able to do 4k at 60HZ, basically means that the screen refreshes 60 times per second.
To run games at 60 frames per second at 4k, is almost impossible. You would need probably an 980ti or Fury X and run games on medium settings, obviously you're mileage will vary

1151 motherboards are quite cheap starting from £40
heres a good skylake cpu athough it's a xeon and not a i7
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ES-Intel-XEON-E3-1245-V5-3-5GHz-Quad-Core-80W-Skylake-CPU-Processor-LGA-1151-/152102649260?hash=item236a063dac:g:8MUAAOSw~oFXF~ME

to find everything you're looking for in one package is impossible (as you already have several things already), it's looking as though you'll have to buy everything seperately TBH

Skylake has a limited selection of CPU's.... not my favourite platform. plus theres a new broadwell -e platform coming out, so I think no more skylake cpu's will come out

motherboard £50
cpu lets say around £150 or a cheaper intel pentium G4520
mem 8GB for around £25-30
case+PSU £60 psu something like this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RS500-ACABB1-UK-Builder-Warranty/dp/B00N4JRNY0?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_hd_bw_bT8OMh_p147_d0_i4
video card, TBH should wait until amd releases their cards. if you can't wait, best value as I believe you want VR ready machine is the 970 which you could pick up for about £180 ish.
I would wait for AMD Polaris, who will have a card around £200 which will outperform a GTX 980
the 970 isn't best the card for VR.. what you could do is just use teh onboard graphics of the CPU and when you're ready just buy a video card.
johnbanks509511
26 May 16 #72
Thanks. I'm after desktop use, not games or VR. I cannot find many cheap motherboards that will do 4k 60p, nor many graphics cards short of GTX 950? If going for 4k 60p from Skylake (what else does it without a graphics card?) then I end up thinking the i5 6600k is best value, so then want a board that will do a mild overclock and end up with: AS Rock Z170 Extreme 4 £108, i5 6600k £195, DDR4 3000 16GB £66. I've spend £540 on a 43" 4k monitor, £108 on Samsung Evo 850 500 GB, so may as well do it all justice?
johnbanks509511
26 May 16 #73
Mission creep, went for the i7 6700K and a massive cooler. I don't like waiting.
tahir_owen
26 May 16 #74
Any LGA 1151 motherboard should support Skylake, Z170 (a chipset)is for extreme overclockers.....
you can overclock on other boards, but you wont be able to adjust the multiplier on the cpu.
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=socket+1151+motherboard&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&ei=8RlHV9jiB-fW8ge9trKoBw#q=socket+1151+motherboard&tbs=cat:289,vw:l,p_ord:p&tbm=shop

The Socket 1151 motherboards do support displayport, but depends in the manufacturer actually includes it. I have a DP on my system with a Intel HD 4000 graphics......

Is it really a 43 inch monitor? not a TV? 43inch monitors are available though, would be interesting to use...

Any graphics card in the last 5 years should support displayport, radeon R370, gtx 750 ti
wait for AMD to release whatever they're going to release around the 3130-3150 mark and pick up one of those.

Seems as though the components you're using, are all towards being a hardcore gamer....
if its not for gaming Or VR then some comppnents are a bit excessive TBH.

I feel bad recommending such high quality but expensive components. The two area;s where you should spend is the monitor first of all, then the video card if you play games, if you don't, then just something basic....
do you know you can pick up cpu's which are 5 eyars old, but just as powerful as today's cpu's with a simple overclock. For example, a X5670 cpu for around £50, overclock that to around 4.6ghz, it will comfortably beat an i5 6600k at it's normal base clock.... the socket 1366 motherboard which supports this cpu, was released 8 years ago...

So you're spending £300+ on a cpu/motherboard combo, yet could get at least the same power for half that....
tahir_owen
26 May 16 #75
wow ok.....

and to think you use HDUK to save money!

anyway, its a powerful system..... should last a good 8 years

I received the Philips BDM4350UC today. It is a monitor, although I considered a TV, I'm glad I chose this. My best source presently is 1080p from a laptop but shown as 2 x 2 layout so 1:1 scaling I think the 4k setup will be very nice to work with as it is like 2 x 2 21.5" monitors. I tend to have 15000 page PDFs, Visual Studio and another IDE, IDA Pro, Excel and browser all open at the same time, but I'm a bit behind on the latest PC stuff as it is embedded stuff I work on. It is not uncommon to be left waiting for things to search, compile or process running these on a recent mobile i5 with 8GB with hybrid SSD/hard drive or an older mobile i7 with 4GB so I hope this spruces things up a bit. A 1080p screen just won't show what I need without lots of zooming/switching. The problem with 4k 60p seems to be needing Displayport 1.2 spec as my older integrated graphics with DP won't go anywhere near that resolution. It looks like half the die of an i7 is used for graphics, so I may as well see if it is any good.

looks interresting for sure, although sitting closish to it, might be difficult. 4 PiP is very interesting to, only having three digital conections is a bit strange, should be 4, but not really an issue for most. 60hz is great to

Hi,
I'm not having much luck. With the £430 pc the guy removed the graphics card and sold it separately and the cash convertors pc was taken off Ebay. I am now considering 2 others as I need one asap and I would value your opinion if you have time please... as I said i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to pcs Here are the links http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201559631908?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201559631908?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I went for these as they are not too far from me, offer a warranty, refurbish and build the pcs etc.

it's well overpriced in my opinion. an older but capable i7... not a bad set up. Could do with being £50 cheaper
