Unless some more stock becomes available, this information is too late to inform people's purchasing decisions, but for anyone who has purchased the product and would like to install a Linux operating system, here's my initial experience.
Hardware-wise, everything seems to work "out of the box" with Ubuntu 16.04 (64 bit version). In order to get it installed, you need the information here:
both work. Method 2 is the more permanent one: 'In HP BIOS setup program, check the "customized boot" option. Then, go to "Define customized boot option", switch it to "Add" (rather than "Delete") and, when requested, type in the following path: EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi (or EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi). Finally, change the UEFI boot order so that the "customized boot" option is above the "OS Boot Manager" option.'
Assuming that the machine proves to be reliable, and that no major Ubuntu-compatibility issues emerge, I would say this machine is excellent value for money as a Linux machine, given its specifications and its fairly robust build.

Yes, you can swap it- most 2.5" HDDs are 9.5mm (except for the thin 7mm Seagates), whilst most SSDs are 7mm. SSDs usually come with a stick-on 2.5mm plastic spacer to pad out the difference

Can you change the HDD for an SSD card on this laptop or is it too thin for that?

Mine was delivered today. Seems good tbh. Pretty fast once I did a clean install and removed all HPS bloatware.
Runs footy manager perfectly anyway

the processor in this craps all over the the z quad around and the celeron N series, even the quad n3700. It's probably well over twice as fast as an n3050.

The Pentium processor in this looks better to me. The N3050 isn't really up to much & struggles with simple web browsing etc.

Very interesting!
I was thinking of getting one of these today; this deal is £31 cheaper with double the RAM. Windows 8.1, but can still be upgraded to Windows 10 for free until July I think. HP vs Acer, probably not much to choose between them. The one I linked to is touchscreen, but personally not too bothered about that. The HP has a 3805U, vs N3050 in the Acer.

you could get a used hp elitebook from ebay which has better specs (i5/i7) than this p.o.s pentuim core. total waste of money!

I had this very laptop and it was a nightmare the boot up time was shocking, there was no access to the battery it switched its self of frequently, and wouldn't boot the touch screen was unresponsive at times and it got stuck between Tablet and keyboard I wanted the best of both worlds and ended up frustrated took a £20 hit and sold it to CEX.
