Business ones, the Elitebooks and higher end models too, so I was expecting something a lot lot better than what we got. To be fair, now they have been repaired we still have and use them.
I bought a consumer model myself which worked and was fine, just the build quality was shocking and the boot speed was terrible, even after flattening and rebuilding without all the OEM bloatware. I returned it and bought a Dell instead which hasn't put a foot wrong.

My understanding is the pro models are business ones and are better laptop shells. This was not a pro model.

Were these business models or consumer ones. I find the consumer ones really poor but business ones quite durable

As Google wasn't founded until 1998, you would have found "googling" it very difficult indeed!

But seriously, if we took notice of everyone's personal experiences on this site we would never buy anything, especially when their statements provide little-to-no useful information.
For example, it's similar to someone saying "I wouldn't recommend anyone buy an Xbox as I've had 2 not work" on an Xbox One deal. But they omitted to say they had the problem with the Xbox 360, and the problem was some of their original Xbox games wouldn't work on it.

.
I also had an HP laptop, some model number beginning with a 5, or a 2, I think. It kept showing an error message, some kind of Windows problem, must have been a hardware failure so I sent it back. Didn't think to Google it at the time, although it was back in 1997. Haven't touched an HP laptop since as they must all be the same. Hope this is useful to someone...:smirk:
In my time as a member on this site I don't think I have seen such a ridiculous and uneducated comment as this.

Let me find out for you guys, these are going for 319 on laptopsdirect and save on laptops. That is where they had the flyer about cashback on trade up for £200.12 when I sent it to my manager on thursday afternoon. He told me about it before I found the same or similar deal.

I used to work for a very large HP reseller (I was an HPE accredited hardware engineer) and I now work for a large user of HP servers (we have something like 350 across two data centres). Our various resellers over the last few years have constantly pushed the laptop / desktop line to us (we're 98% Dell hardware on that side) so it's the business side I'm talking about mainly.
The models we had issues with were the higher end Elitebooks which we got mainly because they were a lighter weight option than the Dell equivalent, can't remember the specific models. The faults with the five were three died completely - apparently a motherboard fault, one doing the same thing again. The other batch of two both had a fan fault which caused them to shutdown because they were overheating.
Unfortunately my experience of the business support wasn't good either. You expect that paying well over a thousand for a business laptop you would get on site, especially during an evaluation, but it was all RTB and took over a week. Granted you have the option to pay extra for that, but given that comes as standard on the Dell hardware we buy for half the price of the HP stuff, it was a big factor for us.
Lastly, we also use Microsoft SCCM for our OS deployments and HP's woeful support for it was an issue. It seems they have no common plan across the range with some models having complete driver CAB's available and others forcing you to download individual drivers piecemeal.
I agree HP servers are rock solid and I would love to feel the same about their laptops.

I have a HP Chromebook( 2 years old), my wife has a HP Pavilion laptop that has been dropped on on the floor a few times (1.5 years old) and my mother-in-law has a HP Pavilion laptop (just over 2 years old) and I've not had any issues with any of them.
I think people will always have bad stories regarding one brand or another no matter which brand you have - even apple products have no end of issues despite their reputation.

working for a hp partner and we have had no such issues. we mainly only deal with servers, high end workstations and notebooks. I have never encountered such a failure rate. It's very rare to see any of these machines come back for any other reason bar a faulty hard drive
Also the business support is second to none. Again you haven't mentioned what model you purchased

Yep, completely agree. We've evaluated HP kit at work a few times and the hardware failure rate has been shocking. Out of one batch of 5 we had 3 fail within a week, one failed again two months after repair. Another batch of 2, both had the same fan fault.
I also bought am HP laptop myself for home use and was shocked with the poor build quality and ended up returning it for a refund.
Personally, I would avoid HP, particularly now they have split the laptop / desktop business from the rest.

Bought 8 HP's for work tempted by the trade in and cash back offers, 5 have had problems - 4 had vertical line on screen, 1 won't turn on, 1 won't do Windows updates. Sorted under warrantee but not an acceptable failure rate.
