Is that a picture of the actual telly, bluntmachetti? If so I cannot have it because the feet would not fit on my unit

The listed spec on ao, has no HDR listed.
Is that a deal breaker ?

Excellent deal for this price and for this size screen
I think his set has HDR. I think the AO details are incorrect.
The big question is what kind of backlighting does it have. The 720 was an amazing FALD set.
bluntmachetti
23 May 16#14
I'm getting it tomorrow so I will confirm. HDR was promised for the 2015 version in an update that never made it.
AO says this model has Amazon prime though
akula
23 May 16#15
Amazon video availability is a big one. As is whether HDR works with Amazon and Netflix. Some reports online that they are currently only supporting HDR through built in media player and not from streaming services yet.
The type of backlighting and peak brightness will be important to figure out whether this can do real HDR or not.

Not all models only H7 up,this is the H6 range.

HEAT on the price... however this is not a HDR set, it will only be hdr with the new
firmware... it is also the 2015 panel, not the 2016 panel ;-)

How do I buy this TV?

23 May 16#20
i know Walmart in America import a lot of Hisense technology and sell them cheaply in their supermarts. I dont mind going on holiday over there and buying one. Its the small problem of bringing it into the country and paying tax on it. Anyone with any sane ideas put it on UKHOT deals

Look forward to your review, BluntMachetti.
If you get a chance, would be interested as to whether it is good for gaming and whether you can connect your pc to it and have it output 4:4:4 Chroma 4k@ 60hz

Do you still have to pay tax if a resident there buys it and then sends it over here as a present?

You really want someone from USA sending a TV all way to UK ?

23 May 161#26
If over a certain value I think yes
fishmaster
23 May 16#27
You absolutely do have to pay tax, the "I'll send it as a gift and not pay any duty" myth is still going strong I see >
Sadly I don't think this has much in comparison with the K720 - for a start it's a flat panel and more importantly I would go out on a limb to say it is an edge-lit TV although nothing in the specs to confirm this.
The big selling point for the K720 is that it is FALD.
You base it on the price actually paid or payable by the buyer to the seller for the goods. This means the total payment made or to be made by the buyer to or for the benefit of the seller for the imported goods.

The point being is you'll definitely have to pay tax on an imported TV even if it's a gift.

Hiya mate, I am guessing the HDR is via USB and the built in media player?? If that is the case I don't think it is much use other than running HDR demos on loop at the present time ... of course that may change.
If you want to check to see dimming zones then run this test - make sure local dimming is activated on your tv and increase the contrast to maximum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P4FNftgQOQ

25 May 16#43
On the box it did say HDR Local Playback only, so wouldnt that be USB and not the streaming services like Netflix?
crofter
25 May 16#44
Yes that is the big question - what do they mean by HDR Local Playback?? If it is just via the built in media player then it is of no use to anybody unless we start seeing 4K HDR rips being pirated - not even sure if that is possible??
This TV doesnt have the hardware to display HDR (it would need quantum dots or similar to do so) but it can still read the metadata and give an HDR effect ... basically HDR is one big mess at present but manufacturers see the chance at gaining some big sales by saying their product is HDR capable.

Sorry mate i don't have the 720 but based on the specs they are pretty much the same, except this isn't curved and has a slightly faster refresh rate. someone mentioned the 720 has FALD, but i'm not quite sure what that is and if the 5500 has it.
do you still have the box for it? I need dimensions to check if it's going to fit in my car

I cancelled the JL order and orders from AO. The reason being, JL doesn't price match AO. I am not sure what you're taking FALD? I am getting mine on Tuesday. I can check that for you if you tell me how to check.

Any news on performance, input lag while gaming, screen uniformity and motion rate yet?
ao.com have this apparent beauty for £799 and I'm eager to get it asap but I'm worried about the points above not being so great at this seemingly too good to be true price...
Just incase, though, does anyone know how ao.com are with returns?

Excuse my ignorance but what the hell is HDR for on a TV? I havent needed to buy a TV since I picked up a 55" LG 3D a few years back so I suppose Im out of the loop
I suggest order form Richersounds. The tv comes with 6 year warranty for the sample price £799. 3 year warranty apart from 2 year manufacturer warranty costs around £149 from Hisense.
