Looking for a cheapish 4k TV 50 inch max and came across the new Hisense model, comes with a 6 year guarantee and apparently HDR? Not too much info around as its not been out too long. Looks like a decent deal for the price, anyone agree?

I have this exact tv, got it a few months ago and I mostly use it for Netflix (4k goodness) and also run my gaming PC through it (980ti) for a 4k desktop, it works like a 4 x 25" x 1080p monitor setup, it's really good. I'd highly recommend it as a TV to use for inputs; PCs, Consoles etc. as the input lag is low in Gaming mode and it supports 4k 60Hz and 1080p 120Hz (good for FPS and general smooth gaming). However the smart functions are pretty poor (compared to competitors), the games and apps are akin to what comes on a knockoff iPhone and casting functions are limited, the speakers are quite good though and the panel is very good.
In short, to run a PC through or console or Amazon Fire box (4k one), YES.
As a standalone Smart TV for a living room, probably not, unless you only watch Youtube, iPlayer and Netflix. I'd recommend an Android TV instead.
P.S. No Youtube 4k on this TV

Well I got one I the end. Response time is ok. I'm still working out the picture settings. But it is an odd tv sometimes top notch...4k YouTube looked very nice via tv ...via play station it was stuttering maybe because of settings over all I'll give it an 8 but only because it's cheap. There's definitely a vignette and viewing angles are not great but I guess that's this type of screen for you...bit like one of my monitors. Definitely not as good as my old plasma in some ways but that cost twice as much. But as I say in some situations it's amazing. Not pumped any top rez 4k stuff out yet...manual is awful tells me nothing about specs. It does have hdcp 2.2 on two 2.0 hdmis apparently but only says hdmi 2 @ 60Hz in manual....Not tested this...

Under the specifications section it has a cross next to HDR, where does it say that it's HDR.

55 inch model but I assume the specs are the same.

That would make this TV roughly 50% cheaper than other HDR tvs, unless I'm wrong in assuming that HDR tvs are around 800 -900 for an entry level hdr TV ... sounds a bit too good to be true, hope it is though
If it has HDR then this is a bargain but I would still go for the 55 inch model because for 4K to be more noticeable you need a 55inch tv

I'd be happy with 5k.
40" 4k is just ok, but I'd say 50" would be too much.
(I've been spoilt by various 4ks and now am less of a fan of 24" FHD for not being detailed enough.)
Is the picture better than your Panasonic plasma ?

They are very good. The 6 year guarantee is with them, I'm pretty sure it's only 2 years normally (not 100% sure on this though). They have good support also. A friend of mine (who is in the IT business) worked for them for a short time and had nothing but good things to say about them.

What makes it a better set IYO?
rozza38
12 May 16#21
No - I don't think it is - It's a compromise for me as have kids who want to game on it and I'm not having that on a plasma. That said - it's the best led set I've had but can still see the un-uniform background - light leaks etc.

Do your research guys, it's a well known fact that to get the full effect of a 4K tv, it has to be a minimum of 55 inches. HDR is for contrast and colour, 4K is for pixels so they work well together and they work best with 55 inches and above.

Have installed sky q and I am told in August will be able to watch in 4K.
Matterez
12 May 16#31
Very true. I sit 3 feet from mine when using it as a (gaming/video editing) desktop and the 4k is immense as you can still use it perfectly, text is very sharp and you can resize windows to your field of view. I sit around 15 feet away for TV viewing, I'd say 4k is still definitely noticeable, it's hard to prove with numbers though.

Just come across this same model on amazon now for £399.99. Even more of a steal, although you do lose the 6 year guarantee.

So we got one guy saying low input lag anyone else? No offence but they could be hi sense employee with a two or so posts in a recent account!
Very strange I can't find any manual or web page referencing this set some people seem to think it's a re hash of a model maybe the 7 series. Odd! Here is a quote from one of the Amazon reviews all of which appear to be for the 65 inch model : "From a picture and sound point of view, this 65" K720 is absolutely brilliant." :s
Also that Amazon link you posted is also a bit odd. It says hdmi 2.0 but this set is supposed to be hdcp 2.2 (what you need for all the new 4k blu ray players sky q you view 4k etc....). :s I guess it just didn't say?

Go for the Sony, you don't want to buy some unknown make over Sony.

After speaking with Hisense this week, I'm to understand that this model will get a software update for full HDR support later this year.
For now HDR will work when watching something through USB.
Also this will be a 8 bit panel for those who are keen to know but the 40" version is a 10 bit panel.

Chaps the Hisense TV is a 2016 model and I've read in the thread there will be a June 2016 model. The guarantee is 6 years. Most of the reviews of this brand are positive some negative. One thing being the Apps are not good!!
All the established branded TV's cost more and are older models. Some come with only one or two years guarantee. Some obviously with 6 years. It seems apps aren't brilliant on Sony Android TV's either.
The way the specs etc are changing with the TV's. Is there any point in paying more notes!!
My thinking is your getting a lot of TV cheap in comparison to established brands
And also when you want to buy your next TV your not going to worry as much because you haven't spent that much in the first place.

No YouTube 4k on the app, still viewable on desktop if you have a 980ti (or any 4k 60hz card). Input lag is pretty good, it was reduced in a software update and is much better in Game mode. The input lag is a lot higher in 4k (as with all 4k) but I'd say I can't notice it at all however at 1080p there really is none, no problems with racing games. Therefore I use 1080p 120hz for racing games and FPS.

We went to RS this afternoon to buy the 50" Hisense (this years model) & the salesman said that he wouldn't buy Hisense himself as it has a slight stutter when playing fast motion scenes, which is irritating. He said that if we weren't really bothered about 4k then we should look at a Samsung 48H6400 which is the same price as the Hisense, but has amazing reviews & is a superb TV. We then came away with nothing......but saved £449

Perhaps he doesn't make as much commission selling Hisense. From what I've read every TV has some sort of issue. There doesn't seem to be a perfect TV unless you pay through your nose. My reason to purchase is keep it a couple years then upgrade. Technology is moving too fast.
