I normally get mine from Simply Supplements, but these are half the price!

GREATLY IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL HEALTH & INCREASE YOUR ENERGY LEVELS!

Regular sun exposure can stimulate the human skin to produce quantities of vitamin D that far exceed your needs. Without a shadow of a doubt, sunlight is the largest single source of vitamin D for most people. However, In the UK we are what could be considered sun deprived therefore turning to a high quality daily supplement is an excellent alternative as well as the sun isn't all good, of course. As any dermatologist will eagerly tell you, too much sun could risk a lot more than a bad sunburn. Routinely overdosing on sunshine could translate into life threatening skin cancer.

HOW CAN VITAMIN D THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN BENEFIT YOU?

• Boosts Immune System

• Regulate Blood Pressure

• Healthy Bones And Teeth

• Reduce Fatigue

• Improves Mood

• Potent Inhibitor Of Cancer Cell Growth

• Helps Prevent Serious Illnesses

• Fantastic For Sunlight Deficiency

• Regulate Insulin Levels And Aid Diabetes Management

• Support Lung Function And Cardiovascular Health

You shouldn't take too much vitamin D3 without also taking vitamin K2 with it. A quick google will inform you why. It is potentially quite dangerous to load up on D3 without K2, so it is important you know why.

Also, reasonable safe sun exposure is the best way to get your D, of course we rarely have that here so supplements are essential. I have been taking D3 (and more recently K2) for a few years and would recommend anyone else to take it for numerous benefits. Again, google proven benefits (your experience of any benefits may be different)

The main problem with the bodybuilding world is summed up nicely in the link you provided, all bodybuilding magazines are owned by supplement companies and they have a strong online presence, they provide studies and information which actively assists in selling products directly to their customers. I do not read any articles in body building magazines or blogs unless it can be proven they are inert from commercial interest.

The very site that tells you which supplements you should be taking, sells those supplements, meaning any information they provide has commercial bias, meaning the information is presented to sell products, meaning it's not trust worthy information >

http://www.bodybuilding.com/search/#/?q=vitamin%20d

So I should supplement Creatine? And I should definitely do a loading phase and you've told me I should do a loading phase, and why isn't that a coincidence you sell Creatine, but not all Creatine is the same is it, you've told me that plain old monohydrate might not be as good and it's better to get one of your Ethyl Ester versions which has less product and costs more.

Here's an example of misappropriation of information >

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/southfacts_cee.htm

"Much controversy has been generated over creatine ethyl ester. Companies and individuals with a financial interest in promoting creatine monohydrate products have attempted to discredit creatine ethyl ester. Some companies have even gone so far as to commission laboratory reports that show that creatine ethyl ester is not real."

Translation: We're innocent, look at all those other bad guys who sell cheaper well studied products and are out to discredit the Ethyl Ester version, we'll also sneak in the word controversy and even brazenly say the other parties have a financial interest, we're just giving you good old innocent information. Btw if you want to buy controversial Etyl Ester version of Creatine, we just happen to be selling it, isn't that a coincidence >

This is too high a daily dose for people who get a reasonable amount of sun exposure; maybe ok as a 2 month loading dose to correct an existing deficiency, for someone who covers up or doesn't go out in the day.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust offers a Vitamin D spot testing kit for £28. It's a fingerprick test that you return in the mail and the results are emailed to you within 5 working days.

Without the help of vitamin K2, the calcium that your vitamin D so effectively absorbs might be working AGAINST you -- by building up in your coronary arteries rather than your bones.

I'm so confused, a lot of people say this dosage is dangerous and unnecessary, but some say otherwise?

What is actually a safe dosage to take.... Perhaps spacing it out, rather than taking daily a good idea?

There is almost always going to be a downside at some point... For years they warned us about saturated fats and now look Coconut oil is the new big thing which is over 70% saturated.

Supplements are an aid in our modern lifestyle, obviously human beings have existed for millennia without supplementin, perhaps some would have benefited had they existed, however as human beings we haven't needed to supplement Vitamin D in the past, so why should we start doing so now? >

You can order blood tests from qualified medical staff at a price, there's services that will come to you and test your blood.

One of the most well known testing facilities in the nutritional community is Genova (you present your blood to them by using a qualified blood testing facility, they don't perform blood tests, you can order all sorts of tests from their laboratory) >

http://www.gdx.uk.net

Personal biomedical testing is big business in the USA and they're ahead of us in that respect. However even with all the technology we have today, we know relatively little about the human body, this might sound insane, but to perform proper studies, needs competence, masses of time. We can estimate through genetic testing which faulty genes we have but we can't tell which ones are active.

The NHS has limited resources, the key to life is what you consume, food and drink. Much personal experimentation must/can take place before you reap your rewards.

If you're interested in taking tests that your Doctor can't perform, or is reluctant to then you can use the links on this page to assist you >

http://www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testing/private_tests.html

As I said the main caveat is ending up with information that you can't fully utilise or understand and you can spend a lot of money seeking the information. Such as allergy testing, most of which is rogue science.

Whilst I have a personal interest in Nutrition and I studied Nutritional Therapy to degree level, I believe there's too many armchair experts, myself included. The science of Nutrition is massively complex and still poorly understood, if you are to take advice then really it should be from a number of experts in their field, such as Professors that blog (again it can be hard to trust many experts especially if they have a vested interest in selling products to you).

One 'expert' I really like is Dr Art Ayers, his blog is here and his credentials are better than most >

http://coolinginflammation.blogspot.co.uk/

Is he right about everything? Is every scientist out there right? It's not possible to be right to be absolutely factually true in science, only to discover and recommend based on the latest discoveries, the complexity of Nutrition and a multitude of differing factors means it's nigh on impossible to be specific to one person. You have to experiment and discover yourself what works for you. Science gives an overview of current accepted practice, one day humans will discover better ways to study the body, better ways to specifically treat individuals, none of us are likely to see this in our life time, but possibly just the beginning of it. Maybe humans will find better methods than just scientific study. One thing's for certain, we'll never know it all.

29 May 16 2 #29
Please state your reasons why you believe this to be so? I don't believe this and logically it can't be true of everyone. Essential is essentially the wrong word here, maybe is the operative word. Maybe supplementing Vitamin D3 will help some body builders, will it help all of them or some of them? Unlikely to be true that it will help all, so how many will it actually assist? No scientific study can give actual proof of your claim, maybe an average of what you should do. Maybe some experts will say it won't harm, will all of them or some of them say it's essential?

There are complexities to your assertion that Vitamin D3 is essential to all body builders. For example location in world, sun exposure factors, exposure to Vitamin D3 in food, genetic differentials.

Is Vitamin D3 essential for all body builders? Unlikely.

I have a bottle of D3 tablets (not the same as ones posted) and label says they contain lanolin, which is derived from an animal, so would not be considered "vegan". What are the ingredients in the product sold by NutriPreme? The label shows it is Vegetarian AND Vegan.
dinono10
29 May 16 #31
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/vitamin-d-why-its-essential-for-muscle-health.htm

There's various articles and YouTube videos saying it is along with creatine, fish oils, one of the main supplements worth taking. Its cheap hence why I take it.
fishmaster
29 May 16 #32
Lanolin is generally extracted from Sheep's wool, I don't want delve too deep in to the complexities of being Vegan, but I will say it appears that Lanolin production does not actually hurt, sheep. So it depends on your definition of being Vegan. Some Vegans won't eat products that contain cochineal as it's created from beetle exudate - carminic acid, but logically doesn't hurt beetles, unless perhaps they beetles are farmed for this purpose or the extract is taken from the body of the beetle.

if you're going to randomly buy vit D3 tablets you wouldn't start at 5000!!!

I'm deficient and was told to only get 1000 and could take two a day in the winter months. No way would I buy this without checking with my doc on if it was necessary!

I really wouldn't advise this as a 'multivitamin' that you just pop a day like the rest.

Can I please ask if these tablets are coated and easy to swallow....(stop there boys.... before you start with your wise cracks).... because I have osteoporosis in my spine and I am supposed to take adcal D3 every day, but due to taking the dissolvable tablets that now turn my stomach, the chewable tablets (taste like chalk) made me gag, and the tablet that you can swallow (not coated) is the size of a mini bomb and take me about 4 attempts every time to get it down, so as you can imagine ...I don't take any now and.... pray for the sun to come.
I have paid prescription prices for all of the above every time but don't really have the money to waste, and I have also tried to look on osteoporosis sites to see what else I can take but some of the SAGA stories freak me, so I now find it's easier to ignore it than to address it.
Any help will be much appreciated.

There's no requirement to take that much unless you have been advised to by a doctor as a result of a blood test. I take 2000iu because I work in doors most of the time. If you have been taking that amount for months then I would advise to get a blood test done. You might be able to lower the dose.
