That picture looks less like dinner and more like an autopsy. I'm a meat eater but I like my meat in little plastic packets so I can disassociate the meat from the animal involved.

This is my local butchers and he is top class. He is always on tele with celeb chefs!
Its about 1kg lighter and about £5 delivery, so works out about the same price......its just if it's salt marsh that would make it a bargain.

Ooooooh Salt marsh or High peak? Bet the farmers would battle with pitch-forks over that one!

A sheep in its first year is called a lamb, and its meat is also called lamb. The meat of a juvenile sheep older than one year is hogget; the meat of an adult sheep is mutton.
I have learned something new today and its only 10.30 am!

Hmmm choices choices, never had either of these as far as i know. Though not convinced the second one is salt marsh, does not say it is for certain.

I have often thought it wouldn't be a bad thing if meat eaters (of which I am one) were expected to slaughter and butcher at least one animal in their life so that they were aware of exactly what's involved when we kill and eat other animals. We are all so removed from this aspect that I don't think many of us realise the significance of being meat eaters or make truly informed decisions about being so. I think I'd probably just about manage it but I suspect I'd eat a little less meat if I'd actually had to look dinner in the eye at some point in my life!
Sorry OP, not trying to distract from the original deal, which, is a good price for some quality lamb! Gets some heat from me!

I agree, but, My wife's parents rear their own pigs, sheep, hens, ducks, geese and fish all for meat. They slaughter, butcher and preserve it all by themselves, sounds good right....... I have never seen anyone eat and waste more meat in my life, they cook triple what they need, gorge themselves and end up chucking loads as they can't keep up with their own production!

I don't know about this particular retailer, but British new season lamb is definitely available to buy now & has been for a while.

Ive killed to eat before. Delicious and rewarding and so fresh. Was only chickens mind. Not sure id like the mess a lamb kill would make on the patio.

Maybe I'm a bit out of touch. My uncle used to have a small farm until he passed away a couple of years ago at 96 years of age (he was still driving his tractor and giving away his surplus to the local villagers until he was 95). He used to rear sheep/beast and turkeys mainly but the lamb was not available until June.

You can say that about everything though... we pay a premium to eat meat.

I would imagine that it all depends on when the farmer wants to breed them. Round my way some are very large now, while at other farms they are very young/small/cute.

How do the farmers make any money off this? Factory farming will be the end of us all....

Not a bad price delivered but, if you have a local abbattoir the rate 'up north' is about £5 per kilo. Fresh, local, properly hung, cut how you want it and working out around £80 - £90 for the average full lamb and you only pay for what it weighs. Unlike this deal where if you only get 8kg you're still paying £59.99 or anywhere between £6 and £7.50 a kilo.

Another example here http://www.themeatman.co.uk/#!product-page/c1jxt/f6846c28-2dd3-6d9a-379f-2b2599b8d010 but if you really do get "salt marsh lamb" for this price it's a bargain.
