Just called a local branch to ask if they had any in stock and at this price? Chap on the phone told me to try visiting the website, to which I asked him if he'd ever tried finding anything on the Asda website? He said it never seems to work for him! What makes you think it'll work for me? I said and that's where the conversation ended.:disappointed:

I am aware of that blanket term, along with people calling all e-readers kindles, all 4x4's Jeeps, all smart phones iphones etc etc...I have recently learned that the verb to hoover something is actually in the dictionary! However I hate the blanket term of all vacuum cleaners as 'Hoover's', let's hope iphone, ipad and kindle never make it into the Oxford dictionary as verbs.

I just rang our Asda and this is what I got (besides wasted phone call)...
'Henry? Sorry, sir... I'll check. Is that George? (no, I'm Nigel  )
Ahh, yes, you mean Numatic vac cleaner called 'Henry'.
Yes sir, we have 3 Numatic vac cleaners in stock and the Henry is currently on offer in store - I now get excited!! :innocent: - that soon ends, with 13% off - yes sir it is now just ...£95.
You said you are local, shall I put it aside for you?' No, but thanks for your trouble. :disappointed:
WTF do people vote hot when this was in probably just one Asda store and probably one only, which is probably a return?
It's over a 1000 degrees and apart from the lister, probably nobody else has been able to get one.
COLD ...ICE F. COLD!!!
So, let's get this straight. I'm not blaming the person listing it. I'm blaming the dicks voting hot for something that is available virtually nowhere else.

Yes, they do - but they're very reasonable from Amazon.
I've been using the hepafilter ones from there, but they're expensive at around £10-12 for 10.
For £3 for 10 and I think they're okay. They're pretty large, so you'd probably go through 1 a month.

The thing with Henry's they very rarely break, i've had a couple over the years & have sucked up all manor of crap at work & they just seem to plod on.
I don't think they're great for around the house tbh, too cumbersome & they bang into everything & scratch your door frames & furniture. Horses for courses i guess.

We have a henry for our scout hut (at the insistence of one of the committee) - its crap, just pushes dirt around the floor, only picks up if its permanently on "hi" and you have to buy bags for it (is this still the fifties?)
Great deal (voted hot) but dont understand the popularity of what is a below average vacuum...

Same, I never use the low wattage mode on my old Henry, not a big fan of it. I don't think low power mode old Henry equates to the same as the new Henry though.
Not necessarily magic, but I guess using the car analogy in my first post could be a reasonable explanation. As in, some modern cars can go twice as far on the same fuel with the same engine power as older cars. Using my very basic science knowledge from my school days (if anyone’s an expert and can explain it better than me, please do!), things like heat and noise is basically wasted energy, and as technology improves and more efficient motors are designed, the energy used goes more towards suction (it's intended purpose, obviously) and less towards heat (unintended).
Get ready for years of you putting the middle finger up and calling him 'King Henry as he gets stuck behind doors, table legs, every conceivable obstacle and some you'd never even thought of.
That rubber band around the middle aides this, and fuels your frustration.

I am not so sure, unless they have put some devils work into the motor and suction, I don't like running my Numatic PSP-200A model in 600W apart from on rugs....suction is not that powerful compared to the 1200W mode....are the new ones only 620W only I believe? They may have performed some magic I don't know about that someone might like to explain.
luridtricycle
17 May 162#41
Far better than any Dyson
Rory Joe
17 May 164#40
Go and read the reviews of the new lower wattage ones. Majority feel they still have the same suction power.
It's not ridiculous or unreasonable at all to push companies to work on more efficient vacuum cleaners. I'm pretty sure the whole Dyson range was already compliant when the law came in so it's not far fetched.
FWIW I have the old Henry and as much as I love it and rave about how good it is, it generates a fair amount of heat which is totally wasted energy.
I'm no tree-hugger but look at the engines that cars had 20 years ago compared to today's engines. Isn't progress with energy efficiency perhaps just a little bit of a good thing?
Half the wattage does not equate to half the suction power, which is the most important thing.

Check the power of the motor - should be either 1200 watt or 1400 watt, they are and were the decent of these kinds of hoovers, but think they reduced the size since the new ridiculous law came into effect.
If the motor power is much lower then £50 is a more reasonable price to pay than the £100 ish that is commonplace.
