The FREE edition of Spotify is not the same. Its quality is not as good, you have to listen to Adverts and you can't download/store songs. Also you have to play songs by shuffle only. Its only to give a taste for the Spotify Premium

Spotify encodes the songs you download. If you are paying a subscription they will play, if not they won't. Simple!
You have to go on-line, by opening Spotify every 30 days to ensure your downloaded songs play. Its all done automatically

I'm confused...isn't this what google normally offers to new users for free

It is only for new users. It isn't really a deal... just an introductory offer/lure.

I was a user until a few months ago and I get a message saying the £1 for 3 months is only for new users.

You can also download music at home through wi-fi and then listen to it whenever and wherever you want with no data required
Seems like the standard offer. Funny to see how the heat changes for each deal posted.

You can cancel at any point, it will still let you stream until the period ends. You should be offered another one off deal at the end of period, so may be worth keeping on. You can also upload 50.000 of your own personal songs to Google cloud to listen too on or offline.

Lower quality streams obviously use way less data. So what does that mean in terms of your data plan? 320kbps rate translates to 2.40 MB per minute of audio or 115.2 MB per hour. So if you were to stream music for an entire eight hour work day, you'd burn through nearly 1 GB
Opening post
I found it on Google Play Store android homepage.
