Is it right that you can't use AirPlay with these? What else could I use to send my iTunes music from my phone to this chromecast that's just as easy?

I'm going to have to build an extension.

I have Bluetooth speakers in the rooms I want to listen to music on, which can be used by any device without need of an app. What do these give you? I understand that it's just a way of streaming data to the device which decodes it into analogue signal to play through existing HiFi or powered speaker, so you need that extra equipment as well to use it. Do they use WifI or BT? It says you need an iPhone or Google app, yet it also says you can play from Windows, so how does Windows do it and why do you need an app just to stream music to another device? I don't know about Androids or iPhones, but my Windows phone and laptop can play music through my TVs and media players and the Bluetooth speakers natively, no app required. Sorry for all the questions, but I fail to get the excitement for something I have been doing for years already and seems to require extra equipment everywhere you use it.

You won't get notifications come through your speakers.
Multiroom music.
Better quality music.
It doesn't drain your phone/tablets battery as once it starts playing the work is done by the Chromecast puck. You could even turn your phone off if you wanted.
You can set zones. So I can be playing a song in the lounge and kitchen while the other half could be playing a podcast in the bedroom.
Make a phone call or play a game from your phone while it is casting.
Connect via analogue or optical. Whatever is your flavour.

What's with Currys always having these on sale? I'm beginning to question their £30 RRP now.

I have my MP3s on a microserver running Server 2012. Will this be fine to play the music on an old amp through an iPad?

I need one for the toilet so i can get away from the wife and kids. I wont have to worry about hearing " we want to change channels". While i'm in there i might as well have a dump(bombs away is what i say when i release them) after all thats what toilets are for. When i leave the toilet i will be a few pounds lighter and i will have been able to watch my favourite tv programme in peace, Yes i am gonna get one.

I bought one a while back for £30 from PC world and its very good, not many apps support streaming audio so you have to choose the stream all audio from device option, the only issue I would say is the chromecast gets slightly warm. Heat added.

Bought this yesterday. From win10 laptop only casts Chrome browser content (couldn't even find the extension from the setup procedure...):really?
From my Samsung S3 only casts tunein, not even youtube or RadioUk (which are a cast-enabled apps). Google cast app doesn't show me the "cast video/audio" option, and same for my partner's Iphone5.
If this is how it is supposed to work this is a totally useless device.

Just ordered my 3rd. These devices are awesome! Easy to connect and control. You can also group them so they all play the same music. Very useful. One tip - check out the "full dynamic range" option on the settings. If your amp/speakers can handle it, it's worth turning on. Makes a significant difference to the sound quality.

With regard to the deal on eBay - that's where I got my 2nd. The only issue is that it takes a few days to get to you. Using the Currys link, you'll get it next day for free.

Excellent little device use with Arcam irdac via optical cable. Sounds fanastic. Just make sure you go into settings and change sound to High Definition.

Is anyone using these with USB power from a speaker itself? I tried but am getting a lot of interference (speaker is a Gear4 Xorb)
