I very much doubt such a highly regarded TV show like this will hit around the £27 mark for 5 seasons any time soon. £11 a season is a bargain in my opinion.

I'm in no rush to watch it personally. If it came down to half this I may be interested

It obviously will eventually drop to half this price, but that is years away. And you can't really compare Red Dwarf with Game of Thrones (and I say that as a fan of Red Dwarf).

How do you compare any TV show ? By it's fan base and popularity.

Let's see. Red Dwarf got millions of viewers (I think over eight million at one point) on the BBC. Game Of Thrones...it's estimated that the most popular episode of it so far was seen by about two million via Sky/Now TV.

You're comparing the current popularity of a 'dead' show to the current popularity of a very popular show. I'm not a fan of either but I'd go out there and say yeah, Red Dwarf is definitely comparable to GoT in terms of popularity.

In that Red Dwarf was a lot more popular than Game Of Thrones is, without any of the hype.

It gets better too! If you do get bored of it... You won't for long. After season three it steps up a notch or three.

Most people watch this via download sites etc not in Sky Atlantic

NowTV recently had all GoT seasons and the latest (season 6).
You could churn through all 50+ episodes for the price of a ~£3 NowTV Entertainment pass voucher
Think the first episodes of season 6 are no longer on there now though (?)

Lets stop comparing Red Dwarf and GOT, its a pointless debate, different type of shows, different genres, one has a cult following and the other is more mainstream, one is years old and the other is still broadcasting, also as far as I am aware Red Dwarf is not available on Blu Ray - apples and oranges being compared.

PhilK - you are happy to wait until it's cheaper, great, nothing wrong with that. But this is a great price for a current show compared to previous prices, and compared to other big shows recently released on Blu Ray. £11 a season is a great price.

I disagree, I don't think GOT will be forgotten about and will still be watched for years. But anyway, has no bearing on this deal.

Theres 2 more seasons to come of GoT and a spin off show has already been approved by HBO, its not going anywhere.

That being said I wouldn't invest personally in a box set. I would wait until all 8 season are available so you have the full collection. If anybody is wanting to watch GoT its available on Now TV with an entertainment pass.

I can see your point, and agree to an extent, but worth stating that the quality of Now TV is not great compared to Blu-Ray (not even remotely close). So while Now TV is great for some people's needs, it's not for everyone. I prefer the Blu-Ray quality so like to own them.

Red dwarf had an estimated 8 million viewers for the entire season 8, GOT got that for a single aired episode!

And considering the only way to watch over here is via sky those numbers are hardly surprising! Imagine for a moment if it was on BBC1...... Apparently some episodes have been downloaded well over 25 million times.

I love RD but GOT is a completely different animal and has huge universal acclaim. Nearly every female i know loves it, Cannot say that for RD :laughing:

I'm talking purely in UK terms here...and not as a fan of either. GoT is overhyped with publicity everywhere, social media attention, but gets fairly low actual viewing figures (indeed, because it's on Sky). BBC2 is open to everyone so it had more people watching.

I am not pedantic and I don't pay the BBC or SKY. I do however watch free and paid streaming although not live! If you want to watch live tv then you have to pay for it one way or another. I choose not to watch live Tv. Nowtv, BBCi, Amazon Prime Student, Youtube etc. cater for anything I want to watch.

Given that you need a TV licence for either service but you pay an additional fee for Sky makes my point valid. I said "free" to save the essay.

BBC iPlayer does not show old programs for free, NowTV and Amazon Prime aren't free and watching Red Dwarf on YouTube is not likely to be morally right. So I don't know why you even mention all that.

I believe so. I have S1-3 boxset and then S4 and S5 separate. Essentially the 1-3 boxset just has the same disks in smaller packaging per season.
