Did Leicester win the league?? The premier league winners have got far less press than usual... they should make a big deal about this....

wonder what odds they were before the start of the season???

OH yes 5000-1.... said every news presenter 15 times every ten minutes for the last 6 weeks.

Now I have to see it on my crisps.

Wonder when Chelsea or Man City win it next season it'll be as big deal...

Team that won the most points over the season wins the league shocker.

They did an amazing job but to be honest in a season where all the other teams tried to keep 75% possession in games and forgot about scoring goals it doesn't take a genius to work out you are better off trying to JUST score goals about forget possession...

Look at Spurs yesterday 68% possession - lost 5-1.

Possession is a fools game... its why Roy Hodgson and LVG like it so much they are both fools.

442 and get the ball in the back of the net (shed). BOOM.

League champions.

Fergie did it for years.
fishmaster to joanddan7

OK see if you can get the Everton job and turn things around next season, the premier league needs more armchair strategists, will save them money and hopefully everyone's Sky subscription will go down too.

Obviously wont be as big a deal will it. Teams like city and chelsea literally bought their success, look at city and chelsea, if you take away the last 10 years for chelsea and 5 for city, they were garbage. Leicester did it with hard work, simple

Walkers ( based in Thurmaston, Leics.) were the main sponsor for LCFC for many years ('87 - '01 I think?), sponsored the new stadium (called the Walkers Bowl originally...) for about ten years and have had many deals with them over the years so why not??

Wow, I bet if you put these away for 30 odd years they will be worth absolutely nothing.
Funny how people are equating crisps to football supporting mentality.
'Walkers have done it now, never buying their crisps again' Smiths all the way! What next. Singing down with the walkers at the next match. Maybe throw some coins at the factory next time you pass.
Crisps!
loopylloyd
16 May 16 1 #16
These crisps were meant to be only given to the 32K supporting fans at the last game against Everton before lifting the cup. They were initially going for silly money on the bay. Was thinking about buying some and putting them away but this clearly shows more than 32K were made as people are selling quantity of 10 or more on the bay and now Iceland are giving them away! Haha it reminds me of the GAME "Exclusive only" editions of games.

Bit like the fact Leicester themselves are owned by mega rich foreigners... a fact that is often used to mock other "big" clubs, yet Leicester win the league and the legacy will apparently be amazing for English football.

Surely the mega rich foreign owners that invest loads (including in things like the local hospital) at Man City are better than ones that don't invest as heavily and just reap the rewards of TV deals and make themselves richer.

Hmmm...
drummerdickens
16 May 16 2 #19
Really surprised that people didn't know Walkers were based in Leicester. That's one of the predominant reasons Lineker is their talisman, as it were.

Walkers sponsored Leicester for ages and the stadium was called "The Walkers Stadium" for about ten years. The Walkers brand and Leicester are massively tied in together.

16 May 16 10 #20
Too many haters out there! not a Leicester fan, but they deserved to win it, they won the league the way it should be done, working hard as team and playing for each and the club, not like the other 'rich' clubs that buy their success!! They have produced a great model and in a some way giving hope to the so called 'lesser' teams that the impossible can be made possible!! As Walkers are based in Leicester, they are entitled to do promote this and be proud of their local team and its their product so they can do what they want. If you have a problem that, talk it out in front of a mirror, as that the only person that cares!!!!!!!

What's any of this got to do with Iceland who are based in Deeside near Chester.

ando
16 May 16 1 #26
The reason clubs are mocked with rich owners is because they spend big, Leicester have spent less than 30m to win the league
joanddan7
16 May 16 1 #27
So that isn't what the tinker man did then??

Possession doesn't win football matches Goals do. Check the stats.

Too many managers think playing like Barca did five years ago is new and innovative and will lead to Gold.

Scoring more goals than the opposition leads to gold.

Leicester have proven that in wonderful style. They have been a joy to watch. Every single member of their team understood their role and how the team would play. These were not A-List players, these are not the greatest minds in football yet they understood and executed the plan PERFECTLY. Why? No mystery or fluke, it was kept simple and players were played in their best position, no one was forced to play a False Number 9, or a Reverse sweeper or any of that nonsense... it was proper get the ball, move it quickly and score a goal and when we don't have the ball chase back and get in position.

Simple. The best teams in England have always played this way.

KISS.

Keep it simple stupid.

The Tinker Man never ever expected to win the league with that formula when he decided to keep it simple but every other team over complicated it.

Next year we will see teams trying to slow it down less and possession will not be the name of the game, thankfully.
joanddan7
16 May 16 #28
So?? they have earned the same money from TV deals, they charge the same for their shirts, they will get millions from the Champions league, yet they will still spend less. Whilst the already rich owners take more.

Also worth noting their players are paid far less too.

Their Players and their fans deserve the title. 100%.

The owners not so.

I hope the players are rewarded with nice payrises that put them firmly in the top half of the table and not near the bottom like they are now.

You are so wrong about the owners, Of course they are business people first and foremost but as owners they have been very humble, allowing the club to take decisions whilst providing funds to make it possible. They have given fans rewards (beer, scarves, clappers) at games, introduced Buddhist monks ceremonies to matches as well as making LCFC debt free... as owners go, they have been fantastic.
As for the spending pattern, spending less is what we want isn't it?? Proving that talent lies out there in the lower leagues of Europe that can compete with the highest rated teams in the world has been a lesson all other clubs should learn from. All the current squad have been or will be rewarded with bonuses and contract renewals etc...
You sound a little bitter??
Oh, I must give a shout out to Nigel Pearson, the man who helped make any of this at all possible...
shakerstevens
16 May 16 #35
They used to be the main sponsor for Leicester on the shirts etc.
At one point a few years ago the stadium was called the Walkers Bowl !
joanddan7
16 May 16 1 #37
I feel for Nigel too. He deserves far more credit than he has been afforded.

Bitter??

Asking for the players that deservedly won the league get paid fairly and not be some of the lowest earners in the league.

Freebies at stadiums are the norm these days, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a club that doesn't do this.

We will see come the first game of the season if the owners are as good as you say.

I hope to see Leicester fighting and competing again next season. Their fans alone have been great to see.

I am bitter at many owners of many football clubs. Just amuses me that Leicester owners have barely been mentioned in any media coverage.

I hope both Drinkwater and Vardy both get into the 23 now they have made the 26 they both deserve it and I hope they squad is kept together for next season and all the players get a nice contract out of it.

Fans and players deserve this.
joanddan7
16 May 16 1 #38
What did I say that was crazy?? is that not how they won it.

Ignore trying to have 70% possession and just play attacking exciting football.

Why are people acting like ive insulted Leicester... they have taken the proper English way of playing football and brought it back. I don't think they have invent the wheel or done anything special.

They have 11 top players, put together by two very good managers and a very good scouting network and they kept it simple.

Chelsea and City sabotaging themselves helped.

You can only play the teams in front of you and many underestimated them.

Hats off to them all. well deserved.

We don't need to wait for the new season to prove themselves, they've had ownership for nearly six years, half of which has been in the championship.
I think we broadly agree that there is a lot wrong with the modern game, I just want to enjoy my once in a lifetime moment, supporting my club and witnessing the footballing miracle we have just had.
I was born in Leicester, went to my first match in 1969 with my Grandad who was a season ticket holder for most of his life - a lot of my family are still st holders and have traveled on wet week nights to watch the likes of Crewe A, Macclesfield, Hereford etc (no disrespect but NOT glamorous away games) as well as facing relegation, play off frustrations, Bankruptcy...
I think you get the picture.

You're an armchair expert though, you knew all this at the start of the season then? So if you'd been Leicester manager, you'd have definitely won wouldn't you. Everyone's an expert but not many are a master. It's dead easy to sit behind a keyboard and be an expert. I'm an expert in over 1.2 million specialist fields.

Since you know all about football management I imagine you must have a salary worth millions a year, if not then why not? With all this knowledge *cough* hindsight *cough* you must be making an absolute fortune.

Originally there was only meant to be around 30'000 packs. One for each seat at the final home game. They have obviously extended that as they were hurling them out all last night at Vicky Park, and various local shops have them. Who know how far they will extend it.
