I'm wondering how long this will last? If it's a 12 month contract then it's worth it for the cheap TV and the box.

First thing's first though, I need to see about getting the price of my contract down!

I wouldn't hold your breath on Sky paying out on their TCB. I took out broadband and phone deal with Sky in January which was £70 TCB and they've not tracked it, nor responded to the claim.
As for this deal - meh from me, I'd not bother with Sky TV at all but if I did (as I used to) I'd stay well away from multiroom, would just use Sky Go in the extra rooms for free.

I had exactly the opposite experience. Moved house, wanted to cancel Sky (which was in my girlfriend's name) and sign up fresh in my own name. I twice tried starting the cancelation process via chat and wasn't offered anything. My girlfriend then insisted on doing it over the phone and ended up getting offered some good discounts to stay plus the costs of moving (and the installation of broadband) waived. Only downside was it took about an hour and a half via two different phone calls, so chat is certainly preferable in that way.

I should of put if contract is over, I.E the day after your out of contract if in one you go to mysky and click the left sky in the last 12 months option an go to chat. But still you should of been offered something still, I've been on half price of less for over 9 years now using the known bartering routine we all use. Do it that way next time Ur 12 months is over an if you keep doing it sky will always give you offers it seems.

I'd just get Sky NOW TV instead, can have upto 4 TVs/devices on one account and view 2 different ones at the same time. £9.99 a month for Sky Movies, £6.99 a month for Sky entertainment bundle, no contract so you can chop and change (ie. one month have movies and entertainment, next month have just moves, next month after that have just entertainment etc).

I've read the terms on the website but if I get this does my contract restart for 12 months again or is multiscreen separate?

I've got 8 months of my contract left and I have a 50% discount. If they renew the contract I don't mind but only if it stays at 50% still. Anyone know?

I've just replaced my multi screen box with a sky+hd box (with wifi) from ebay costing £16.
(The standard hd multi screen box does not record and is not wifi either - so no catch up or box sets)

Works great but I did have to pair it up - but was very simple just used the website and activated almost instantly.

Only problem is I find the sky+ box quite noisy when the hard drive fan starts up randomly in the middle of the night.

I signed up for a similar promo a couple months ago (free TV with multiscreen). Ended up having to cancel multiscreen as the Sky engineer couldn't do it in my flat. As the TV had already been delivered I called Sky to ask how to return it - Sky person checked my account (and checked with a colleague), apparently the credit for the TV is just applied to the account and not tied to any particular service. Meaning, the fella said it just shows we've given you a free telly with no strings attached, it's yours to keep.

Be aware that any new contract you sign with Sky overrides any existing deal. If you agree to extend your contract by 12 months in exchange for 50% off your monthly bill you will lose that discount if you take another offer like this.
jenmumof5
7 May 16 #53
You can also cancel the packages online, quoting that they're too experience and they'll automatically offer you a half price deal.
Also there are often deals pinging up on here to get cheap new boxes with monthly passes included. I activate the vouchers and sell the spare boxes for about £7 too

I have a 50% offer until march next year and asked someone on chat if I am eligible (didn't mention hukd lol) they said yes I am eligible for free TV with multiscreen and that it is free install and free multiscreen box and that it won't affect the 50% either. Just that it locks you into another 12 month contract. So after march next year the last 2 months will effectively be full price until may as 50% will have run out. But what they did say, is that apparently the offer ends today. Not sure if that's just on my account or if it ends for everyone today. Hope it helps!

Everyone who is going to swap out the free standard box with a sky+ box (with a hard drive, pause rewind etc) just be aware that the standard installation with the free box is a single LNB, so you will be able to pause/rewind whilst you watch tv & record what you're watching, but to be able to record a 3rd programe etc you will need an additional connection run to the dish. Perhaps ask the sky engineer to fit the additional one as you may upgrade in the future, worth a try.

If it is the same LG TV they gave out last year, then it is 2 HDMI (one on the back and one on the side). The specs said only one at the time then as well. As it designed for hotels it was hard trying to find the correct specs! There is a good programmable alarm I find very useful.

Sky go Extra is free with Multiroom as standard so it isn't really an additional saving.

Had the LG TV from Skys deal last year, was recently built set and quality is extremely good for a 'freebie'. It being just a 720p is not really an issue with it being only 32" and the set does appear small too as the bezels are pretty thin - had to get a tape measure out because it looked too small!

A single HDMI port to multiple. It's all terminology that will find you the right thing when you enter it into Amazon, eBay etc.

Tomatoe / Tomato.

If you search tomato and tomatoe, you will almost certainly get tomatoes. If you search kettle and slippers, you will get different things.

What hes saying is XBMC/KODI was cool because hardly anyone knew about it

They would go on about 'why pay for Sky when you can have KODI' and so on....basically making non-Kodi users feel inferior/stupid etc

And then when the rest of the world caught up with KODI...the same people told us 'KODI is so yesterday .....'

Let us know how you get on. I am in same situation - will cancel today if they dont offer at least a 50% discount. If you cancel do they always come back with a better offer? dont really want to leave but not being taken for a mug either. Is it a game of bluff and double bluff with them?

Oh and does anyone know the retention dept number? what to get straight through to the organ grinder if at all possible!

Plex servers for movies and box sets and IPTV for live TV. It isn't free but then again your not chasing dead links, suffering buffering or watching football that looks terrible on anything larger than a tablet and it doesn't show you off several times during the game... BTW, please don't try and claim otherwise as I've been using XBMC/Kodi for over a decade on just about every format it can run on.

I pay £185 a year and have access to over 5200 movies, over 1200 box sets and over 800 channels from around the world, no buffering, no rubbish low bitrate live streaming (most sport is available in either 720p or 1080p), no buffering, no dead links and on the rare occasion a channel might go down there's usually 5 or 6 other channels showing the game.

I signed up in November and got a 70% discount for the first year. On this page it's letting me go through the order process, has increased it by £11 and says that's what my new monthly will be. If I agree will it then lock that discounted price in for another 12 months from now? Saves me having to renegotiate again in November.

I've used Kodi for ages too and see the problems you mentioned.

I'd be prepared to pay for the same service you receive.. can you let me know where I need to look?
princessyella
12 May 16 #159
I have taken the sky deal I used Live Chat first then I called to confirm everything stating that I was not sure it had all gone through and I had done it correct. My bill will be £32.00 with this added on.
Zomoniac
12 May 16 #161
To answer my own question, no it doesn't. Spoken to the chat people, my contract will go from £25 to £67 in November regardless of what I order. With no guarantee they'll give me a similar discount again, and I would cancel in that instance, I'd be stuck for 6 months paying for multiroom with no service to watch on it.

Just received tv today and it got 1 HDMI slot .. Its led tv and quality seems to be good. Thanks op
Jawz
12 May 16 #163
BTW I don't intend claiming otherwise.......lower your shield troop!

I merely ask....as like yourself I too like to save money, hence why I am here. I am no Kodi champion, though I know my way around a PC and can pick up technology fast. The art of watching paid subscription tv indirect for less, is a new thing to me. So only wish to grab information direct in a quick way from someone who appears to have migrated away from using kodi.

Like I say. I am currently a paid subscriber, however I do use Kodi on Amazon box, Phone and Surface Pro 3. Never liked the sound of Card Sharing techniques. As turned off by pop up guys asking large sums and then disappearing weeks later.

What you describe as a service intrigues me, as the reason why I subscribe currently is not only the heavy discount, but because I put a value on 'Work First Time' and 'Quality of Picture' and 'User Experiance' something that a £1 a day I pay at the moment I'm happy to pay for.

If you can elaborate further or point me in the right direction....that would be great as I'm intrigued to learn of new techniques.

Thanks in advance :o)

12 May 16 #173
No Kodi has had its day, too many users overloading servers, too many using the same add ons making them a target to be blocked by ISP's due to legal action, too many add on writers getting their work ripped off and quitting the scene.

It has nothing to do with being cool, the scene isn't what it was and those that used it now look elsewhere for a more reliable service.
sharonpaton2
12 May 16 #174
Im the same but someone on here says the ladt 2months will go bk to full price unless you cancel the multiscreen early @ £11 per month x2. best to check with sky first tho.

I understand Kodi - also the frustrations of the guys having their work ripped off. I think UKTurks is the latest to pull the plug on things. Kodi was just hyped up to be something it wasn't. Fine for the ocassional dabble, but if you want to watch something with mates, forget it...it WILL let you down most times.

kristoff1875
13 May 16 1 #183
Kodi still works fine if you have providers that are charging small subscription fees. I get all sky sports, all bt sports, all premier league football, all pay per view events, for £18 a year... And as they cap subscribers there's never an issue on the servers.
tubbyhubby
13 May 16 1 #184
Who makes the payment every month, if it's you then stop the DD and write to them advising the person no longer lives at the property and there is no forwarding address. They cannot come after you for the money as it is not in your name. You do not have to go into the finer details just the person no longer lives at the address.
SuperMariosDad
13 May 16 #185
I just got this today for 11.25 a month so looks like the deal is still active
coolcat21
14 May 16 #186
thanks, but tried that - I pay the dd & when I said I would stop it, the response was debt collectors would call if no payment!!! Even though it's not my debt!!! I fail to understand why sky are so awkward, I've had no problem with any of the utility companies, council tax, etc! I'm still on the warpath with them, but not found any success stories so far.
praevalens
14 May 16 #187
Got it for 11.25 this morning too
tubbyhubby
16 May 16 1 #188
Hi They can send debt collectors as long as the contract is not in your name and in your girlfirends you have nothing to worry about. They cannot come after you for the money as you do not have a contract with them. You could always speak to Citizens advise to clarify. and i am sure you could try Google to confirm
Hope you get it resolved.
rosswinter
16 May 16 1 #189
^ True... The only thing that might be worth tacking on to this advice is a little caution....

They can pursue your ex but if they cant find her or if she refuses they can issue proceedings for her assets and make a claim against them.

I agree with the principle but make sure you have through through all the repercussions before you decide its worth it, if any of these happen to be joint assets (house, car, budgie). Might be cheaper in the long run just to pay its minimum term off and watch it
coolcat21
16 May 16 #190
Thanks for your reply, I'm still trying to resolve but not yet spoken to CAB. I've only found other stories similar to mine online & none with a positive outcome! I'll contact OfCom soon & see what they've got to say about it!
coolcat21
16 May 16 #191
Thanks, I hadn't considered that, but there is no minimum term left, been "out of contract" for many years!!! That's the maddening part of their policy, I can't get any upgrade of equipment or change package, but still have to keep paying
rosswinter
16 May 16 #192
Ahh... I understand now.

Yes, in this situation Sky will pull the "youre not the account holder so we cant speak to you" to cancel the contract and retain business.

Providing you know all the details just get a female relative / friend to call and cancel pretending to be her.

Its not fraud, its just a little white lie
coolcat21
16 May 16 #193
I'm actually considering this, although normally I'm incredibly honest (often to my detriment!!)
rosswinter
16 May 16 #194
Seriously, I'd be doing it without a second thought (and have done similar in the past).

Sky know you are telling the truth but they know it will take a while to make her call or perhaps it will be too much like hard work and you'll just keep paying them. They are basically scamming you by making it difficult to leave.

You aren't being dishonest in what you tell them, just in the way you are delivering the information.

I would honestly suggest you did it without batting an eyelid and just counted it as one less tie to the past and one more step towards moving on
coolcat21
16 May 16 #195
Oh, I've moved on ..... It hasn't been a problem till now, but the latest price hike is just too much, ridiculous price to pay for a load of **** they show! Wouldn't mind if I could get them to change the account details to me & offer a price drop / freebie, I would stay. I'm not sure how long before I could sign up in my own name.

But I'm definitely taking it up with OfCOM; it's ridiculous I can change utility bills, Council Tax, Tax Credits, etc, with no "confirmation from account holder", but a TV company threaten me with debt collectors

Thanks for the suggestion

Very pleased, I had the sky man come around today to fit the sky box, he replaced my old dish with a new one which has an 8 way LNB (my old one had 4) and they were out of normal hd boxes so he fitted a new 2TB box with the extra cable for recording two channels. Thanks op, this was a good deal for me as I was after a 32" tv for the spare room anyway and my wife wanted multi room for the kids. Happy days.
