I'll describe my desk to you right now....
I have one Ulefone Paris in pieces (with a non functional motherboard); dying for reasons unknown.
My other Ulefone Paris (bought for my uncle) has a failed screen, and a non functioning speaker.
I have thus transferred the working motherboard from one phone to the other. I now have a phone that works (albeit with a hot spot on the screen, with shonky Android 6 wifi, and dreadfully slow charging. Not to forget the malware built into the Android 5 ROM).
I would have been more than happy to send both of these POS phones back to BangGood. But they insisted I send it back via untracked post (Royal Mail), which breaks IATA rules on the safe carriage of lithium ion batteries (check Royal Mail).
I raised a dispute with Paypal because BangGood wouldn't allow me to send it back via a tracked courier (due to the chance of them being hit with customs charges at their end).
Paypal found in my favour for obvious reasons.
It's not my fault the Ulefone Paris is sh*t, or that BangGood's customer services were forcing me to contravene the airline industries own code of conduct.
But yes, pat on the back missleading for your little crusade
(Speaking of which, I remember your name from previous duels on HUKD. You spouted nonsense back then, and you have done so again now. Good one)

Any idea where to find the official Android 5.1 ROM for this phone? I'm trying to flash back as Android 6 isn't stable (esp' wifi)...but the 5.1 rom seems to have been removed from the Ulefone website.
Also, can I install it from the phone via the wireless update - or do I need to flash via a computer?
Many thanks

So my mixed feelings about this phone have finally settled down...
With Marshmallow installed, Next lock screen and Arrow launcher...I think this is a pretty good phone. I've been using it all week to cycle courier in London. I've been managing up to 18 jobs with photos in between before the battery has died (with Google Maps navigation via the headphones between jobs & music).
As such, although the charging speed is woeful, the actual battery life is surprisingly good. & the performance is excellent...
If it had a better camera and on screen buttons rather than naff capacitative ones - and faster charging, then I really would struggle to fault it. I even dropped it whilst cycling...and it was fine. Oh, and it picks up There's 4G network regularly.
In short, I'm ditching my heap of other phones and sticking with this.

Try installing the updates. Mine runs fairly cool now. (Still warm - but then again, it is 7mm thick and has a metal body....so nowhere for the heat to disperse).
Nothing to be concerned about IMO. Even prior to updates, the heat never caused it to do an iPhone - and give a heat warning/shut down
A week in with my phone, and I am REALLY pleased with it. I miracast videos at night from iPlayer to my 27" monitor (MS Wireless Display Adapter V2). Standby life is very good...in use life is pretty good too. Camera does a good enough job. Screen sensitivity and responsiveness is great....and with the addition of Apex launcher, it has a really pretty UI.
I also haven't had a single force close or application hang. & no incompatibilities either (yet).
For £56, I couldn't be happier.

This is the thing that I am left with after all the various updates;
I tweeted Ulefone with screenshots of the malware. I wonder what their response will be.
I've disabled the process and force stopped it (does this mean it will remain disabled until the next OS update?! Or will it just restart again when the phone is switched on? I'm happy enough with it just sitting there doing nothing....but don't want to have to concern myself with it on a regular basis going forward
Thats the warnings that i got. Looks like may have to root and remove, or use other ROM. I think its either false positive or adware rather than a dangerous virus. So more annoyance than anything else.

Just received my Paris in white. The phone looks superb in that colour. One of the pieces of Malware is from u-browser, which is removed via subsequent firmware updates. Will have to check if the other virus thing is removed.
(Quite tempted to fit the glass screen protector and use it without the case. It seems v.tough from the Youtube videos, and it is so sleek without the case!

There's a video of it being completely submerged....and another of it being dropped from 2 metres. A good part of the reason why I bought it.
Just annoying that it may have malware as that'll mean I can't use it with financial apps. (May even lodge a complaint with BangGood or Paypal. Haven't received my own Paris yet though - so I shall wait and see what the scans uncover)
Incidentally, mine appears to be out for delivery today (certainly can't complain about the delivery process - it's been pretty quick with both phones!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Good hardware, good phone, but with adware preinstalled, 17 Feb. 2016
By O.
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Ulefone Paris 4G Smartphone MTK6753 Android 5.1 Lollipop 64 bit Octa Core 5.0" 2.5D Arc HD IPS 2GB RAM 16GB ROM Dual Cameras 5MP 13MP with Phone Stand (Electronics)
The phone itself is really good, excellent screen and battery life. My problem came after checking in detail what's inside the stock operating system and in particular the non-google applications that are installed as services (ie don't show up as running apps). One of them, 'Search Service' I found cited as virus/adware after some googling, and sure enough after installing Kaspersky Antivirus it was detected as a threat (see screenshot). Since this is part of the operating system and it can't be uninstalled I can't really recommend this phone to anyone unless you are technical enough to be able to disable it and to remember to do it again every time there is an update. There's another app installed here (com.rc.hallview) that controls the clock the shows up on screen lock but also has the ability to do basically anything it wants with the device for no reason whatsoever.
Seems to me that Ulefone is trying to get some extra money by embedding these spyware/adware applications, which kind of makes sense since this is such a cheap phone.
When I google "com.android.tools.callassistant", this article comes up, although I can't see it mentioned in the article itself, so maybe it's in the comments:
Search Service is classified as Potentially unwanted program. This app was pre-installed by your phone vendor and we cannot remove it."
More info: com.android.tools.callassistant
Not sure what to do now as I am clueless with tech in general let alone phones, just thought I had myself a nice little deal there as well.
Is it safe to even use it?

I charged from 56% to 100% in 58 minutes yesterday using an Anker IQ Powercore battery pack. Not brilliant - but not too bad either.
It's the only issue I have with the phone, aside from the back button being assigned to the right hand nav button (and the button lights being ridiculously small!).
Everything else is brilliant. SO smooth - even when installing a myriad of apps.
Shame it comes with malware pre-installed. Guess I'll have to look into the faff that is flashing new roms ! Hmm

Mine arrived yesterday too. Comes with a pre-applied screen protector and a spare, plus a separate glass protector, a ulefone flip cover (with porthole), charger, usb cable and headphones. Seems a nice phone, especially for the money.
Only issue is that Malwarebytes scan showed a potential adware risk which it couldn't remove. A bit of searching on XDA and following the post below I've flashed new ROM and now all ok - HTH

SO, Microsoft won in terms of revenue - but they just didn't win the OS battle.

3 Jun 16#90
Good info that. I know when i looked at gearbest they used 'oneworld'. I thinnk there are genuine EU warehouses for some stuff but much as you say comes via a courier company who slap on your address when they receive it in UK. At least they give a return address, and you can at least send it to UB18 recorded presumeably, you can at least prove you sent it back if need be. Gearbest have a EU warehouse but there is no return UK address, you have to return it to China yourself, so that is a plus for Banggood.
supermann
3 Jun 16#89
Glad you like it. In a sense it's good that Android won the race because if they hadn't it would be harder for companies like Ulefone to exist as I imagine Microsoft licencing fees would have put people off setting up these businesses.
supermann
3 Jun 161#88
The 'EU Warehouse' is not as it seems,
I received mine today and it had a sticker on it with the return address below..
Worked perfectly after the tape was removed!
The only annoyance so far is that the back button is on the right. Are there any pieces of software that can change the position of the back button to the more logical left position?
Also, coming from Windows Phone, Android sure is a lot more clunky. Shame it won the race, as I am already missing the simple elegance of the notification window - and the simplicity of the start screen.
Can't fault the hardware though - brilliant for the money.

Sure, any SIM is likely to work on its own, the concern is whether certain SIMs will work at the same time which is the main reason for getting a Dual SIM phone. Sure, some people might be happy to have the option to switch between SIMs depending on where they are (i.e. activating SIM1 when in the UK and SIM2 when abroad) but I want to be able to use my regular Three SIM, which is cheapest for PAYG calls and data and my personal number which I give to friends and family, as SIM1 and also have a second SIM active so that I can give that number to other people or use any special data bundle offers that might be available (e.g. the EE 100MB/month free offer). If a phone can only provide 2G on the 2nd SIM, like my Moto G 2nd Gen does, and both networks only work on 3G and above, then it's no use to me and likewise if networks only offer 4G and the phone only provides 3G on the 2nd SIM, so it's important to know exactly what a phone supports when it says "dual-SIM".

Mine was also dispatched Monday and it arrived today.
So far I am very impressed. In the packet is a euro charger, usb cable, headphones, instruction manual, a pre-fitted screen protector (with no bubbles), a spare screen protector, an optional tempered glass screen protector, and a full wrap around case which is actually pretty decent!
Can't believe all that is in the box for £56 !!!

I use life mobile which is 3g & it piggy backs from EE. Before that I was with tesco mobile & it was the 4g network which worked fine. I don't use the case as its too bulky to fit in your pocket so I use it without. The other day I dropped the phone by accident from waist height on a solid floor & it was fine. If I bought something more expensive then a case would be a priority.

Aside from a few rural areas, Three have never offered 2G coverage. Part of the reason why I never use their network. If you do use a Three sim in this phone, then just make sure it is set as the data sim - then it'll work.
Did you get a different case instead - or are you just using it without any case at all?

2 Jun 16#72
I got the phone with a non European charger. It came with a case which when you put on & close, the time shows in analogue. Pretty neat. I'm not a big fan of the case though as it's hard & bulky so it doesn't fit nice in your pocket. It came with the screen protector & I have to admit that this was super professionally pre done as it had no bubbles and it looked really natural. I used an existing UK USB plug to charge it & have no issues. Like I said in my previous posts the battery could be better but I charge it once a day & its sufficient for my needs. For the price of the phone, you can't get better. I love it as its a 5 inch screen & fits well in your hand. Overall a brilliant phone at a budget price.

Interesting. I wish they'd make up their damn minds  I just want a phone that I know I can use both SIMs on and I learnt when trying to find a second SIM for my Moto G that already some operators don't work with 2G (might have been EE or Three, maybe both, I forget).
There's also the issue of using it abroad with a local SIM, where they might only have 2G or 3G networks. It's probably not a problem then though, as I guess I'd just deactivate my UK SIM before departing to avoid crazy charges from even incoming calls/texts and then the 2nd SIM should be able to use 2G, 3G or 4G depending on what's available. Certainly my Moto G's 2nd SIM can work with 2G or 3G if the 1st SIM is deactivated.

Ironically, it is more likely to be the 3G network that is switched off rather than the 2G one in the UK. The 2G network still carries much of the voice call traffic, and is the network most likely to be available in remote areas.
Says the 2nd SIM is only for 2G voice calls, which won't be much use for long as apparently 2G networks are being switched off! I have the same problem with my Moto G 2nd Gen, so I've been looking for something that can do 3G on both SIMs.
(Screen down drop from 2.10metres, and still works with no screen cracks or anything. I'm impressed)

I've bought the Paris for my uncle in grey/black - but am quite tempted to buy one for myself to replace all three of the phones mentioned (in black again - looks better in the black case).

I tried this on my phone last night and showed OOS.
I have just tried this second with my laptop and the item was in stock, the initial price showed £69.64 + £0.47 p&p, I then added the code 311827 and the price reduced to £56.18 inc P&P.
The code can only be used once per account. I had never used banggood so set up a new account anyway.
I needed a cheap dual-sim phone for the summer so hopefully this will be spot on... only need it to last 4 months!

Thanks OP.
Oddly shows as £69.57 for me, used the code shown in 1st post (311827) and it went down to £56.13! Definitely worth a punt at that price so bought.

I have this phone and it's great. Not had any adware on it from stock. Battery is great and runs very fast. Only down side is no 5ghz wifi and only a standard speed charging even when used with a high speed charger.
But other than that such a great phone and even better when you get the portal hole case.

Let me know if you've done a Kapersky the quote from Amazon is below. Might be worth a punt if not full of Adware. Are there restrictions on the 2nd Sim slot?
"The phone itself is really good, excellent screen and battery life.
Seems to me that Ulefone is trying to get some extra money by embedding these spyware/adware applications, which kind of makes sense since this is such a cheap phone."

Good one)
Also, can I install it from the phone via the wireless update - or do I need to flash via a computer?
Many thanks
However, I have been using it for about 15 minutes, and the phone does really get hot!
Has anyone else experienced the same?
https://www.avira.com/en/support-threats-summary/tid/41172/threat/ANDROID.Agent.OD.Gen

(Quite tempted to fit the glass screen protector and use it without the case. It seems v.tough from the Youtube videos, and it is so sleek without the case!
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of they annoying analogue clock from the lock screen when I close the case cover??
Many thanks,
Simone xoxo

Good hardware, good phone, but with adware preinstalled
Hackers reveal Android malware that is IMPOSSIBLE to remove: Malicious bug can be found in more than 20,000 apps
Apps trying to install in background
"Malware detected
Search Service is classified as Potentially unwanted program. This app was pre-installed by your phone vendor and we cannot remove it."

Not sure what to do now as I am clueless with tech in general let alone phones, just thought I had myself a nice little deal there as well.
Is it safe to even use it?
Does anyone get the odd unexplained vibration going on now and then though ? It might be one of the apps i have installed so trying to work out which it is
It's the only issue I have with the phone, aside from the back button being assigned to the right hand nav button (and the button lights being ridiculously small!).
Everything else is brilliant. SO smooth - even when installing a myriad of apps.
Shame it comes with malware pre-installed. Guess I'll have to look into the faff that is flashing new roms ! Hmm
I grabbed a few bargains
I think in future I will need a crowbar to take the back cover off.
There is also another Rom just come out on XDA as well VibeUI V3.0,

Only issue is that Malwarebytes scan showed a potential adware risk which it couldn't remove. A bit of searching on XDA and following the post below I've flashed new ROM and now all ok - HTH
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/rom-perfect-rom-1-0-t3294978
Can i ask, did it come with the case with the clock coverface, and tempered glass screen protector also in the box?
SO, Microsoft won in terms of revenue - but they just didn't win the OS battle.
I received mine today and it had a sticker on it with the return address below..
https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/UB18-7HK-post-code-SCAM/td-p/4353720
Mine started up once this was removed and had about 60% battery. After an update and installing a few apps etc it has only dropped to 58% so not bad at all.
Mine has just arrived. Looks superb for the money....BUT, it seems like it may be DOA.
The last time I ordered a chinese phone was about 4 years ago and it was twice this price and turned out to be an absolute pile of s*^t... what a difference they are now!
Over a week would seem pretty p poor
bgpairs20
Did you get a different case instead - or are you just using it without any case at all?
There's also the issue of using it abroad with a local SIM, where they might only have 2G or 3G networks. It's probably not a problem then though, as I guess I'd just deactivate my UK SIM before departing to avoid crazy charges from even incoming calls/texts and then the 2nd SIM should be able to use 2G, 3G or 4G depending on what's available. Certainly my Moto G's 2nd SIM can work with 2G or 3G if the 1st SIM is deactivated.
(Gotta be quick in the HUKD game)

The first Android phone I've bought in 4 years - hope it isn't a let down. (My last Android was....and pretty much every one before it)
Whatever happens, it won't happen soon.

(Screen down drop from 2.10metres, and still works with no screen cracks or anything. I'm impressed)
I've bought the Paris for my uncle in grey/black - but am quite tempted to buy one for myself to replace all three of the phones mentioned (in black again - looks better in the black case).
I imagine I could probably sell the 4S for the same money as the Paris

Correct product. Very useful with Ulefone Paris phone. Not really used since already included in the Ulefone Paris package. Could be use as spare.
Is anybody on this thread able to confirm this? Would save me buying a case for it...
Android 6.0 coming next month apparently;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5z-BaGPAoQ&feature=youtu.be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn0uhhGM4AU
Doesn't seem to complain too much about the screen brightness...but is complementary about performance, camera quality, design etc.
It is only £56 as well, which is 1/10th the price of an iPhone 6S (let's keep things in perspective  ).
Thanks OP !
(Bought THIS Cubot phone for £46 the other day - and just wondering whether to let the order process, or go for this Ulefone)
Oddly shows as £69.57 for me, used the code shown in 1st post (311827) and it went down to £56.13! Definitely worth a punt at that price so bought.
