Indeed. Still 19.99 at EE, but +10 top-up. So I guess the offer is expired.

Can anyone help with this...
I've got the phone, unlocked it using an Ebay code and it accepts other SIM cards. I've put one in (Greek as it happens so I can use the phone as a MiFi hotspot. It sees the network no problem, but will not connect for data. The SIM works fine in other unlocked phones.
ANy ideas anyone? It occurred to me that maybe EE hardwire them somehow to only use their network/data settings. Could that happen?
We are using a virgin (who also use EE network) 30 day sim in the phone, with no issues too.

Same here but I had to ask them to take it off. I said that I wouldn't have to buy this if I'd gone fast track and they took the £10 off.
The phone seems pretty good for £20 - only used it on wifi so far.
Anyone know if an ASDA sim will work in an EE phone without getting it unlocked (ASDA uses EE's network I believe)?

Local Argos (in Homebase) has stock - Morecambe.
Just reserved one for my Dad.

Just been and collected the phone, and when I gave the reservation number, the girl asked if I wanted the £10 top up, to which I said 'no, if I don't have to'? And she said, no problem and voided it off the purchase.
It was added to the transaction on the reciept, but is down as voided.
Used £12.50 of nectar points, so got the handset for £7.50... that'll do for our son. :stuck_out_tongue:

It can be hit or miss. I've reserved a phone in the past and had to buy the topup in the store. I fastracked this order and they just handed it over without any mention of a topup. It comes with a sim with £10 credit on it which I think you have to use to buy a PAYG pack with.
johnson293
24 May 16#65
I've reserved one of these for our son who's just lost his last mobile, to collect and pay for at Argos.
On the confirmation it only shows the handset at £19.99 to be paid and no mention of the £10 top-up which was supposed to be added automatically.
Not too bothered, as will be using his existing Virgin 30 day sim in it anyway, so hoping I can get away with not buying the top-up for it.
Also, going to use some Nectar points towards it (2500 worth = £12.50) so might only pay £7.50 for this.
Last time I bought a handset at Argos, did the same (reserve and pay/collect in store) with a Motorola Moto E, and didn't have to buy the top-up then either.

I've just picked mine up. I paid £20 using Fast Track and there is a sim with £10 pre-loaded inside the box. So it has effectively cost me a tenner. And what a bargain. I just need to unlock it now. It seems better quality that the Voda Smart First phone I bought for £20. The Rook has Android 5.1 and is 4G. Bargain!

I'm not trying to be a nob, but you can literally just search ebay 'ee rook unlock' and have gotten an answer far quicker than typing that question, and waiting on the good grace of a response
Yes..£20 3 sim....Using my unlimited data.....Belkin N300 WiFi Range Extender (£14.99 when it was on offer 4 weeks ago from argos)...Create a hotspot on the phone then connect to the Wifi extender...job done...

Great smart phone for £20, ordered via fast track as I had ee sim. I was expecting the phone to be sluggish and screen to be poor BUT quite the opposite. Not for playing games and high end requirements so set your expectations from the outset i.e carmera is just ok nothing more. A steel for £20 esp it being 4G and watching vids on the move.

So you are paying £20 a month (3 sim only unlimited data) for backup, is that right?

I've done the same, bought the phone, unlocked it, and enabled it as a hotspot with my 3 sim, unlimited data. Connected to my Wifi extender, now got a backup wifi spot in the entire house. average speeds of upto 20mbs, (enough for streaming/surfing) Woohooo!!!

How do Argos give you the top up?
if its a voucher, I could upgrade my mums phone (Been meaning to get her a smartphone. Never owned one before) and top my dads up.
Both of them are on EE and my dad has a tablet, so doesn't need another web browsing tool.

I've just picked up one of these this morning. As per other people, seems pretty snappy, and screen is rubbish, very low contrast. Typing is a bit of a challenge once used to a larger screen. But at the money, who could complain.

4 inch phone seems a bit too small for typing etc now, screen isnt as responsive as my Moto G but at £20 its fine

I've just added Automagic and another app for a few quid to make an 'emergency/panic' phone for a elderly person. Not to be used as a conventional smartphone by them, they just pull out a headphone jack, and the phone...
- emails/txts loved ones with location etc.
- includes a photo automatically taken from front and one from rear camera (in case it helps with location)
- will auto-answer incoming calls and automatically switch on the speakerphone from selected numbers
For £20'ish I can't think of a more cost effective way to do this. How else could I get a relatively small easily programmable battery powered device with loads of sensors/camera/3G and Wifi/GPS/screen/etc.all built-in? Eat your heart out Arduino/Pi :-)
