Shoot demons on Mars and in Hell probably, I haven't played it yet but that's what it seems to be about.
I bit at this price because it's worth a few hours of mindless nostalgia and super shotgun/chainsaw kills.

Doom 3 is a clunky survival horror and this is a pretty much perfect reinvention of old school fast pace shooters... Both totally different games...

Good price, holding out for sub £20.

Just double check your PC meets the game's requirements - they're pretty high.

Bought last week and wouldn't start in steam as computer doesn't meet min reqs! Can't get refund of course.
Can use -dontforceminreqs
in Steam properties to get it going and just set everything to min in options after that. Only played a min but feels amazing, just how you'd want Doom to feel. Just wish I could enjoy it in higher reqs! Maybe play it through tomorrow <3

It uses Denovo DRM, so there's little to no piracy on the game.
So I think it'll hold it's price longer than you think!

Won't go that low but it will certainly drop again soon

I don't. If anything lack of 'free' copies means there is a bigger market and more money to be made from cheap copies.

Or of course, buy Doom 3. About the same game.

It also means there's a bigger market and even more money to be made from more expensive copies. They have no need to drop the price significantly just yet.

Waiting to see if it comes free with a gtx1070 card, assuming the gtx1070 card isn't stupidly priced.

Game pricing is so wierd but basically a new game creates massive interest and sells at high prices but if the game isn't very good, or gets boring quickly or just doesn't have enough content people move on quickly and there is less interest in the game. The publisher wants to maximise income so before that interest wanes they try and keep the product selling as well as possible to return the most income. Digital pricing often follows retail pricing. So if Bethedsa release 2 million copies to retail and only 1 million sells so significantly below expectations. To prevent getting the games returned by retailers (sale or return) they offer them discounts on stock so they can lower the prices to help shift that stock and digital often has to follow those price drops.
Personally I feel this game will drop in price quite quickly but its only a hunch based on content available, hardware requirements and past history of id titles.

It's selling well, it has DRM that's killing the piracy scene at the moment.
It may get high returns at retailer - but we're talking about a PC game here, not it's console version.

Or you could just get Doom 64, pretty much the same right?

That was about 20 years older though. There is hardly a massive leap from Doom 3 to Doom 4. I mean I could play it to doubly doubly prove myself right, but that would involve spending money. If you want real frantic FPS old-school re-invention go for Painkiller.

Doom 3 was about the horror and set pieces, Doom 2016 is more on the fast paced action side of things with waves of enemies and the focus is on combat without the walking around a dark space ship with just a torch for light.
It's a little like comparing Resident Evil 4 with Gears of War

Wait, so you haven't tried it and you are already convincing yourself that it is not much of an improvement over a game that is around 10 years old?

He clearly hasn't played it. The leap between the two is massive lol. The ONLY thing similar is Doom is in both titles!

Best FPS for years. Just like they used to be back in the day. I love it and would recommend to anyone who loves corridor shooters with minimal cutscenes and 'quick step' actions ruining the flow of the game. Essential purchase for PC gamers, maybe not so much console folk who are used to being spoiled with high production lazy action games like COD etc. Hot.

excellent game, but hungry on spec. Ended up buying new graphics card. Had R9 270x, but gameplay just not smooth enough even on medium settings. Bought GTX 970 and runs like a dream Ultra 1080p. CPU 2500k at 4.4Ghz, 8Gb Ram.

How does this Denovo DRM work? Is it going to **** my computer up like Securom did? I refused to buy any games that used Securom, so their DRM actually lost them money. Why does it need DRM anyway when it's on Steam?

I've not noticed any problems or heard of any, it doesn't seem to be intrusive but still works as anti-tamper/piracy DRM
Just finished this: Amazing single player campaign.

In this weeks steam top 10, DOOM is second. The Witcher 3 released a year ago and distributed completely DRM free outside stream occupies the 4th and 8th spots at a 50% off price of £17. If the game is any good lack of DRM doesn't hurt sales which is why I am always going to be a bit dubious about games which their developers/distributors think need strong DRM.
Virtute

I agree to a degree, being DRM free can improve sales. However I think in Doom's case it is still selling well & has a pretty good reception from it's players.

I like that some publishers are going DRM free, but I don't think its a massive surprise that a lot don't. At the end of the day a shed load of games get pirated, and although those that are going DRM free are proving it can work, I can see why a lot of publishers still want to use DRM.
Personally I don't care, as long as it doesn't get in the way of me being able to easily install and play the game I've paid for, and in this case it doesn't.

I'm not really sure what that top 10 selling games proves. The top 2 games use Denuvo protection, and Witcher 3 is an excellent game which is placed higher as it's on sale. I'm sure there are millions of people that downloaded a copy of Witcher 3 because they could. Witcher 2 was pirated many millions of times, can't imagine be any different for Witcher 3 - probably more so.
I just don't buy that having pirated versions available to download doesn't hurt sales. All you need is a sample size of 1 person who bought it because they couldn't download it to prove that isn't the case.
Solly92
31 May 16#38
All it needs to negate that argument is one person to buy the game because they liked the free evaluation copy. I have bought too many games where the first play through became something I just wanted to get over so I could uninstall. I don't do that any more. I haven't bought this game, might risk it when it is a fiver.
Yes the witcher 3 is selling well at half price, but that half price is only 6 quid less than this deal and it is a year old and has already sold 10 million copies.
Ashe
31 May 16#39
Does anyone seriously think the number of people buying a game after pirating it is anything comparable to those who don't buy it because they can pirate it?!
Even of those that would buy afterwards, that may be at a significantly lower price, still meaning loss of revenue due to piracy.
In my case, if lack of piracy means the price doesn't drop as fast, I'll end up paying more because I want to play. Not great for me, but I can't argue that the protection hasn't benefitted the company.

Comparing a steam/GOG sale to a key reseller site isn't a fair comparison.
I bought Witcher 3 pre-order for a tenner by shopping around, but if I went through Steam or GOG I would have paid a lot more.
