Great watch, bought it at the start of the year when it was on offer for the same price and posted on HUKD.
Titanium case and sapphire glass, worth £99. Add £3 for delivery, or collect in store for £99 and they will adjust the strap for free too, so I went with the collection option.
Register it online when you receive it and you'll get an extra year's guarantee. So 6 years in total for less than £100.
Powered by Citizen's innovative Eco-Drive technology, this stylish and handsome bracelet watch will never need a change of battery. Crafted in highly durable titanium and styled with a bold blue dial contrasted with fresh silver indices, and featuring a handy date aperture at 3 o' clock.Award-winning Eco-Drive technology converts the power of light into energy.

I have usually scratched the glass in my watch by the time it's six months old, but my current Citizen eco-drive, sapphire crystal watch is six years old and unblemished. If it weren't for the fact that I don't need a new watch and don't like the design of this one, I'd have been very pleased to grab this bargain.

Bought a Citizens watch from Argos that looked similar to this, titanium strap, sapphire glass, eco-drive for £80 (Down from £130). Over 11 years old now and not a blemish on the glass and still looks as good as new. If anything did happen to the watch I would definitely buy another just like this one here.

You could try the WVA-M640D-2AER on Amazon. Currently at £118. Differences:
1. Protective scratch-resistant hard mineral crystal lens instead of Sapphire
2. Has a digital display at bottom which can show day & date, lots of other functions too
3. WaveCeptor Radio controlled and always has the right time and date

To confirm what others have said about Citizen watches, I've had mine for over 16 years now, worn every day, even whilst doing things on the cars, must have knocked it thousands of times, hasn't got a single scratch on the glass even though the metal around it does! Try speaking from "honest" experience next time.
Not from what some numpty in a pub told you.
Rickardo
8 May 161#57
I have not talked to anyone in a pub - what is your problems and why so vitriolic? I made a light hearted comment based on the fact that it is recommended (at least for automatics) by themanufacturer for the watch to be serviced every few years, or at least to check its water resistance - a contributory factor to me selling mine. Great for you, that you haven't followed this and also have not had any problems.
In terms of reliability, I was referencing time keeping and this radio adjusted quartz will best any automatic, no matter how much I admire their engineering. My father-in-law gave up wearing his Omega long ago as he was fed up of it losing time excessively

tokamo to fantasist
9 May 16#62
Not sure if it's normal but not entirely dissimilar to the experience I had picking up mine today. The outer cardboard box was a little bashed about though the 'case' inside that was fine. There was no seal but looking at both box and case I don't think there ever was one. The strap seemed to have all its links and they had to take one out to make it a good fit for me. My watch also had a white sticker on the back and no protective film but then again, with sapphire glass would a protective film really make much difference?
By the way it's a lovely watch for the money (hope my cashback comes through). Thanks a lot to the OP and member AAB for mentioning the Quidco.

I went in yesterday and there it was. I had to pay in-store as they'd cancelled the original payment. The outer box was a bit creased but the inner round box and watch itself were perfect. It may well have been ex-display but in perfect condition and with a 6-year warranty, I'm happy.

Has the eco drive technology improved enough to be reliable in the winter now? Recall problems with a girlfriends watch which used to run out of juice in the winter but that was about 10 years ago and she had a number of different ones so perhaps the eco drive one was in a dark drawer longer than it should be.

Forget the 6 years warranty, if my 10+ year old one is anything to go by you won't need it. Wear it daily and other than the fact it drains sometimes in winter due to being covered by clothing (put it under a light for a few hours and it's fine again) have had no problems with mine.

Yep - my Speedmaster automatic, now 14 years old, loses 3 minutes per day. Wouldn't mind getting it serviced but the robbing blighters have it stitched up so that EVERY authorised Omega agent wants £450+! Service it outside of the Omega network (cartel) and Omega disown it. Jeeze, that is miles out..... and what a rip off those servicing costs are. I'd be tempted to just open the back and regulate it myself. Its prob just a small lever to move.
Those servicing costs are what stops me buying expensive Swiss auto's.
My 1st gen Seiko Monster was +7 sec, 2nd gen Monster -2 secs and my Orient Mako is +5 secs, all over 24hrs.

I have an older version of this and an even older Eco-Drive dress watch - at least 7 years old. I usually only wear each watch 1-2 days a week - but when not worn I leave it on a cupboard about 6ft away from a window. Never had either of them run down over winter.
The one negative I did find about the Citizen Titanium strap was that it got scuffed badly within a few months - far worse than a 5 year old Seiko Kinetic titanium strap. However, the Eco-drive mechanism itself has lasted much longer than the Seiko Kinetic which packed up after 5 years.

moonkala
17 May 16#98
Quidco was 12 % last week, may have reduced now. One I had also ex-display with battered box, inner and outer dials misaligned, still I liked the watch so asked to in store to replace with new one.
BenderRodriguez
17 May 16#99
It's one small lever and you can easily regulate it with a £2 app on your phone, however once automatic starts losing so much time per day it means that many parts are simply worn due to lack of lubrication and you're just beating a dead horse here.
That's exactly why they should be serviced on a regular basis, a bit of oiling every few years saves hundreds in parts in labour. Obviously doesn't apply to cheap watches, my Seiko SARG isn't really worth spending half of its price on servicing so I'll wear it until it dies.

Eco-drive is quartz mech but charges from solar cells so the batteries/charge system are projected to last ten plus years without opening the watch (I'm not sure what you have to do when the thing does die, but ten years worth of battery replacement would just about pay for this!)

Not knocking ecodrives as I've had one for about 8 years now and it has never stopped ticking. mikeyfive
17 May 16#109
I agree, my Eco-Drive Red Arrows stopped holding enough battery charge in January, inspite of being in a window 24/7. I had to factory reset it several times and nearly sent it back as it wouldn't hold charge until we got a couple of very sunny days a month or so later.
I had it next to my solar G-Shock and Protrek watches, none of which have ever missed a single beat, they all stop the second hand in low light whereas the Eco-Drive just carries on regardless of charge until it dies and won't reset.
Overpriced, under designed rubbish watches.

Managed to find one of these in stock in Southampton. Collected it but it's going back first thing tomorrow as the pins keep falling out from the strap. Luckily it wasn't damaged the first time it happened and fell on to a concrete floor. Put it back together at home but I only have to shake it for a few seconds before other pins start dropping out. Seems to have a major design flaw, are all Citizens made like this?

Did you have the strap adjusted in store? If so, they did it wrong. There are some REALLY tiny sleeves that hold the pins in place. These can fall out when the pin is removed and must be put back when the pin is re inserted. If you didn't have the strap adjusted, it seems like someone before you did, but has returned the watch !

I have ordered and mine is on its way to the shop for collection. After reading other people quotes on here I emailed Customer Service and they assure me my one is from their distribution centre and is brand new, and staff have been trained to adjust the watchstraps, any problems will be sorted at the shop.:sunglasses: We will see in the next few days or so.
Still a lot of watch for £99 though.

I ordered it last Wednesday and it was dispatched the next day. I received an email this morning to say that it was ready for collection and I have just returned with my new watch.:sunglasses:
The box inside and out was perfect, and most of all the watch looked excellent, with the right label and paperwork, it all looked pristine to me. Two assistants had a go at removing two links and in the end the Deputy Manager did the job, which seems fine, time will tell. :smirk:
Excellent watch at a great price and good service by Ernest Jones.

Just wanted to say thanks again to the OP - the watch has been great - it's only lost 5 seconds in the last 5 months and I recently received a message that the Quidco cashback claim has been successful (£11.88), bringing the price paid down to £87.12!
Opening post

1. Protective scratch-resistant hard mineral crystal lens instead of Sapphire
2. Has a digital display at bottom which can show day & date, lots of other functions too
3. WaveCeptor Radio controlled and always has the right time and date

My apologies for the lack of better terms.
Water resistant up to 100m. Suitable for swimming.
Try speaking from "honest" experience next time.
Not from what some numpty in a pub told you.
In terms of reliability, I was referencing time keeping and this radio adjusted quartz will best any automatic, no matter how much I admire their engineering. My father-in-law gave up wearing his Omega long ago as he was fed up of it losing time excessively
By the way it's a lovely watch for the money (hope my cashback comes through). Thanks a lot to the OP and member AAB for mentioning the Quidco.
Even better! I paid £76 in early December from Amazon France, I think it was about £86 on Amazon UK.
Not impressed :disappointed:
Also the cashback from Quidco I received is just £9.90, as the original amount is £82.50, not £99. I guess it is the after VAT price?

And yet it came back in stock after I had bought it.
The watch is being cancelled.. What a shame
I went in yesterday and there it was. I had to pay in-store as they'd cancelled the original payment. The outer box was a bit creased but the inner round box and watch itself were perfect. It may well have been ex-display but in perfect condition and with a 6-year warranty, I'm happy.
Those servicing costs are what stops me buying expensive Swiss auto's.
My 1st gen Seiko Monster was +7 sec, 2nd gen Monster -2 secs and my Orient Mako is +5 secs, all over 24hrs.
That's exactly why they should be serviced on a regular basis, a bit of oiling every few years saves hundreds in parts in labour. Obviously doesn't apply to cheap watches, my Seiko SARG isn't really worth spending half of its price on servicing so I'll wear it until it dies.
I had it next to my solar G-Shock and Protrek watches, none of which have ever missed a single beat, they all stop the second hand in low light whereas the Eco-Drive just carries on regardless of charge until it dies and won't reset.
Overpriced, under designed rubbish watches.
It's 12% exclusive of VAT, so £99 - VAT = £82.50 * 0.12 = £9.90
Bit sneaky if you ask me.
I've had stuff delivered from China quicker.
