Thank you dck. In that case the wine costs 42p plus a compulsory donation of £2.58 to good causes (the social welfare bill, the NHS, education, infrastructure, law, defence and foreign aid), so it is cheaper than some trendy bottled water. If I could add some more heat I would!

I'm no expert, but the tax and excise duty on a bottle of wine must be approaching £3, which does not leave a lot for the producer, shipper, bottler, wholesaler and retailer.

42p a bottle to be precise. Duty £2.08 + VAT £0.50.
