•Blur the background behind your subject to help them stand out -it's a great look for people pictures.
•Near-silent STM focusing works quickly when shooting photos and more smoothly when capturing video.
•The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lets in lots of light, so you can keep shooting when things get dark -capturing the atmosphere of the occasion.
•As a fixed, non-zooming lens the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM delivers great image quality -enhanced sharpness, more contrast, and less distortion.
•Weighing in at just 160g, the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is a lens you can always have with you.

This is from Amazon. The non-STM version is currently £67 so are your sure your have this exact same lens? The STM lenses have much quieter/near silent auto focus, which is a huge advantage when shooting video.
That said, a quick search found this version for £71 at E-Infinity Online Camera Store, although I have no idea how reliable that site is.

I totally see your point and it's all down to the sums. Personally if you do your research and hunt out the deals in Europe and UK you end up finding official imports almost as cheap. Plus buying when canon have cashback from authorised sellers means you get extra off anyway.

The Aperture blades also produce smoother bokeh on the STM version and its not going to fall to bits like the mk2 either and has a metal mount.

Pass. Not sure if they pre-pay the tax and duty or under-report the value and it's been too long since I last bought one to have any paperwork lying around. But given HMRC have cracked down on under-reporting, I'm not sure if they'd still get away with that.

I can see that, but in my experience the amount I've saved on very high-end lenses means I can afford to drop it once (and have!), pay for the repair and still have paid less than I would have if I'd bought in the UK. I've never had to send a camera or lens back for a fault.

Only problem with grey imports is you have to send the item back to the original country to get a repair.. After being stung myself I wouldn't buy grey imports for things like cameras and phones.
Note
I only saw the previous post for E-Infinity after a page refresh - Doh

Would recommend Onestop and DigitalRev as mentioned but would avoid E-Infinity. Not that they're a scam, they aren't, but just because there's quite a few poor reviews out there and they aren't usually that much cheaper than more reputable grey-market sellers.
I've used and recommend you stick to DigitalRev, SLRHut, Camera in the Post, Portus Digital, Panamoz, T-Dimension and Onestop Digital.
Onestop and Camera in the Post are usually the cheapest at the moment, but prices vary...

@ msward, that would be lovely if you can let us know, but I'm pretty confident that this is the cheapest for a brand new lense from a decent retailer, I was looking for almost two weeks now.
