Of only it had an 8gb graphics card for gaming ....
At just £130 it would then be a bargain.

Can you post a link to a brand new i3 for 'a little more'? For the benefit of doubt, this is £130, so lets go up to 33% more (£173).

Any reason why you think an SSD can be put in here? I can't find anything online to say you can in in the eMMC model.

I bought one
Fitting the SSD was a simple as unscrewing a small base plate on the laptop and slipping it in.
My daughter loves it for schoolwork etc.

So there is space for a 2.5" SSD as well as the 32GB built in? Or did you have to remove the 32GB Flash storage first?

Yes the 32GB is internal and there is a space for a 2.5" SSD as well. So you end up with a 32GB drive and the SSD drive as well. I installed Win10 on the SSD and haven't needed to use the 32GB at all.

I ordered one via flubit for £121. Reviews on amazon confirms, additional 2.5 ssd/hdd can be fitted into it. Processor is too decent for a machine this size. AMAZON REVIEWS
One reviewer on amazon set a virtual ram of 8gb for it using instructions from Microsoft below SETTING VIRTUAL RAM
This I believe should be enough for my 2 primary school boys.
Thanks Op

But that sort of upgrade would probably be quite pricey for the manufacturer...

Now back down to £130 - a real bargain for a Windows laptop with 14" screen and halfway decent keyboard/touchpad. The only real downside is the RAM (2GB) is not upgradable/expandable. You can add a 2.5" SSD/HDD quite easily.

He's right though. We get 1080p screens on phones and tablets as standard. The cost to the manufacturers is very low compared with a gaming graphics card.

As it appears, to run it properly SD card or SSD drive have to be added, which means additional costs, not a great price considering additional costs and effort involved

Excellent price, paid £169 from John Lewis a couple of months ago. Much stronger CPU than other similar models as well.

BUT not fanless and soldered 2GB RAM

Aren't most of these 32GB eMMC machines 2GB ram paired with a low end Celeron or Atom? I was under the impression that this was reduced due to the stock still being on Win 8.1. If there's something better for the money I'd be keen to see a link.

I got one of these for my son. Excellent at this price. Huge battery life, excellent screen and very good build quality. Great for online stuff but you won't be able to install many programs on it. The Win10 system already brings the memory down to around 18GB. If you are doing basic stuff on it, it is excellent value for money.

Gone are the days you can upgrade to an i7 in a cheap laptop. Intel seems to be killing itself and the upgrade market, by killing the cpu upgrade options. Now most of cheap laptops like this one have soldered cpu, s. So you cannot make your slow donkey into fast horse however hard you try. Putting a ssd in this kind of hardware limited laptop is waste of money as the cpu is slow.

£258.23 for windows 10 version on Ebuyer which effectively is the same machine after the free windows update.

This machine have a 1964 benchmark score and you think it is slow? wow, don't even talk about this as you don't owe one. I have this machine which I bought for £121 via flubit when this deal was posted, I put 120gb ssd in it and upgraded to win 10. See comment 6, this machine flies like other high end £500 how probooks I have in the household for browsing and word processing. For £129 you can't get it better anywhere

For little more you can get an i3 machine with unsoldered cpu. And then when compatible i7 price drops, you can upgrade to an i7 at leisure. Upgrading the cpu makes more difference than anything else. Ssd upgrade only helps in disk intensive tasks like boot up speed but does not make it any faster. And it also means losing space if you are upgrading from bigger hard disk to smaller ssd.

What's the battery life like with the SSD in opaninkofi . Read earlier that its up to 10 hours, is that anywhere near reality?

My 4 and 5 year olds use it mainly for youtube educational videos and I will say realistically between 5-6 hours depending on usage. Battery on mine is so good, I have never bothered to check exactly how long it last after full recharge.

Great deal!!! Surprised it's still on. Heat regardless
John Lewis is £30 dearer for a white one with 2 years warranty which I went for. But for £130 you won't get a better machine.

1. Is the RAM upgradable easily?
2. Does the trackpad support multitouch?

Think I've found the answers. Yes to multitouch, no to RAM upgrade.
