At a quid a time you can just reason that it's no bother to replace them but it gets a bit boring constantly hearing this misjudged "They're only a quid in PoundWhatever" every time other LED bulbs are listed.

This deal wasn't on in my local superstore - but they did have 10 bulbs for £15 - different brand.

These look the same as the Homebase ones which were reduced (to clear?) to 2 for £2 ages ago

I got loads of them. They seem ok, but they ruin my DAB radio reception unless I move it into a particular sweet spot. I looked it up and it's apparently a side effect of the cheapo transformers inside cheapo LED bulbs.

I like the white light, 4000 degrees or more, my partner prefers the yellower light, about 3000 degrees which is fine as we live in separate houses :-)

I've replaced nearly all of my light bulbs with LEDs but you have to be very careful. Many cheaper bulbs (like those from Homebase) give out a horrible light with a greenish tinge and sometimes exhibit a high-frequency flicker. To get something similar to the colour temperature of incandescent bulbs I've had to buy decent brands, in particular Philips. IKEA bulbs are good too. I tried a few GU10s in my kitchen and found only one which was a good match for the traditional quartz 50w - this was made by Aurora and the model number is AU-GU107/30 at 7w. Bought these from Amazon. I don't know what the ADSA bulbs are like but would guess they'd be pretty nasty.

The other issue is continuity of supply. There can be slight differences in light output and colour between brands/models, so if you have several in the same room you usually want to stick to the same type.

Its worth buying a few spares if you're buying end of line/store branded bulbs etc. As it can be hard to get the same ones a year down the line. (Not a big problem at these prices).

I've had the tesco ones in my office for over a year. They don't get very hot and are a nice brightness.

I bout some of these last August. Amazing bulbs for the price (even at £5). Far brighter than expected and a nice consistent spread of light too.

Keep the receipt and take them back if they go within a few years

If they are same as the one I bought from Asda reduced from £45 foot 10 to £15 for 10.Then yes they are dimmable and instant brightness , no need to wait a minute or 2 for it to reach full brightness.

Asda do the dimmable version, which is £15 for a box of 10 in my local (equiv' £1-50p each) - The Asda ones are also made by TCP.

Recently been on offer at 2 for £8 so at £1 these are a steal. 330Lm is not bad, think they had a 400+ Lm version also at the £5 price. From memory the beam angle is about 36 deg. Will ceck my local tonight as my other half always moans about the spooky lighting in the hall and landing.

You misunderstood/misread. I'm saying that the cheap LEDs that offer higher wattages (in the case of GU10s >3W) tend to be built to run hot as driving LEDs hard and skimping on heat dissipation is part of how they are so cheap. I'm not saying they are higher wattage than the bulbs in the listing.

Aren't the poundland ones only 100 lumens?

A good find OP....do you know the dimensions as our fitting only seem to take lamps less than 72mm...although for a quid I could buy one just to check...!

I see where you are coming from but like you say there is nothing to say the ASDA ones are better, and if my PL/PW have lasted a couple of years already then I'm happy, unless all 20 or so I have go pop tomorrow :wink:
One comment that isn't true though is saying they are higher wattage, the ASDA one in the picture shows 5w, I have both 3w and 5w PW/PL ones, I'd imagine others are available too

Not a mega deal otherwise considering the PL and PW have been doing them for a year or two now.
