£39.99 for 16gb? Can't see any at the price of descriptions stating it was ever that price?
All £49.99?
Mex5150
25 May 16#88
Nonsense, with a little knowledge it is no problem to run *ANY* apps from the SD (well, I've yet to find one that doesn't work fine from the SD), OK, You normally have to root the device, but I can't think of a single good reason not to root it anyway. There are several guides over at XDA-Developers, just do a search and use the one you like the sound of best.

I bought the blue 16gb version out of Argos for £39.99. It was choice between that and the 8gb version with 2yr guarantee at JL which was the same price but having an Android phone and knowing how many apps don't work with external storage it seemed more sensible to get the 16gb version.

Well thanks for mentioning "quite often". I appreciate good advice. Thanks

If you are ordering from Argos you may as well wait a day, as they should have their £5 voucher with a £50 spend or £10 voucher with a £100 spend offer on (i'm guessing as they have it on every bank holiday)

Seems like I'm mentioning it quite often but turning your tv into a smart tv with a black nowtv box loaded with the TVplayer app will cover all of your catchup and free view needs over wifi for very little outlay.
My rear shed gets good wifi and I've an 40" old HD tv in there. So with the apps to use Chromecast I can catch up while repairing stuff. Never watch a film end to end (like reading a book cover to cover) so this is ideal. Life story finished.

Everything my gf has installed on her tablet has worked fine so far (YouTube etc) however I remember seeing an article or thread mentioning certain specific apps won't work through a sideloaded playstore. Will try and see if I can find it again for reference.
you couldnt understand why this was a good deal "Not sure why everyone thinks this is a great deal", I was just telling you why people thought it was a good deal.
quixoticduck
24 May 16#74
once the play store is sideloaded, is it essentially the same to use for any apps that you install, or do some not work/have restrictions? thanks

24 May 16#71
That is exactly why I said we can't rewind to the past! I was mainly pointing it out as an equally good deal could come out again if its happened before. You would expect it to do so bearing in mind the technology should now be cheaper to produce 6 months later. I agree its a good tablet for the price, perfectly fits my needs.

You can't use google playstore natively. You'll have to google how to side-load some unofficial google play store files on to it using a USB cable and a computer. It's not hard, but it's not something a none tech savvy person will find comfortable doing.

I have the original Fire HD 7 that has 16GB built in. I think 8GB for apps would be a real struggle.

This is really god, had the same deal last time plus £10 off prime delivery making it £29.99
Unfortunately had to arrange 3 exchanges as there were problems from black screens, reboots and dead pixels, took almost 4 months to get a proper version, works, great, tempted to put cyanogenmod but not yet
you can even remove the adverts with advice from Xda and Rootjunkie scripts, if you want you can put Google play but as it is the size of 30 apps it does slow the tablet down

My nexus is totally naff compared to one of these, find it odd as the nexus is better in specs, maybe the update to lolipop killed our nexus 2012's.

Paid £18 for mine - well, £30 (Prime Now at xmas)and then £12 refund for charger recall.:smirk: But this is a good deal, too. 7" too small for browsing, I find, so I mainly use it for kindle books and especially for the text to voice function, so I often listen to my books. And is handy for travel, watching movies and quick browsing.
It's an absolute fingerprint magnet, though!
It did have a wobble when the battery suddenly started going down alarmingly, even when not in use. If this happens, you have to do a hard reset, holding off button down for 20-30 seconds. Did the trick and it has been fine since.

A moot point as not every app will even let you move it to SD storage. Though it's a bit tragic you actually have to go through any hassle of setting up the play store on there in the first place. There's only one SD this tablet is : an Amazon Sales Device.

great wee tablet this , bought it in the black Friday sales . use it for reading via Kindle app , watching movies on flights and just fast and easy to use . mine came preinstaled with Google play .no issues at all , actually just got a gel case for it delivered this morning of eBay .all good ...buy buy buy .

How bad are these? My last tablet with 1024x600 was absolutely terrible: slow, narrow viewing angles, difficult touch screen, bulky, short battery life etc....
But this one seems kind of half decent for a budget tablet. I would still recommend a used Nook HD+, just for the awesome display, but this one is certainly a bit more up to date.

These were £34.99 on Black Friday. Those in a prime now area could use the £10 code to get for £24.99
In Manchester we didn't get prime now until a couple of weeks later, by then it was £39.99 so I got it for £29.99 with the £10 code.
Not sure why everyone thinks this is a great deal, appreciate we can't rewind back to last year but 6 months on the technology is the same, the price is more expensive and everyone is voting hot.
Really can't complain for the money but 800pixels across would be much better, these are 600 and you can tell.

I have one of these and they are ok for day to day stuff movies, quick games, surfing the web etc. The screen is not the best out there on the market and with no HD playback, its just OK. Fits inside coat pockets and as its slighty thicker than most tablets it can take a certain level of battering and still work. You will need to buy a micro SD card as the 8gb is not enough. 7inch is just about right if your out and about but for long journeys I would say no. The bloatware esp the ad`s they have placed is annoying but you can remove this, quick google search shows how to do this. The O/S took me some time getting used to as its quite different to the android o/s I have been using. Amazon have mapped everything into tabs i.e. one for music, movies etc and no central scree, so you have to work your way around this and make on of the tabs where you place your main apps. It is quick for what it is and play`s most games ok not tried the big heavy ones.

i think so and you can still set it as a kids tablet..my two have them and i installed play store in 5 minutes and i am so crap at tech!
About them being small..my kids have ipads and have never mentioned these feeling small to them..they love them.
Re apps not playing when no wifi my son plays spotify and games on holiday when out of wifi reach so i guess so?
They have cards in to expand memory and download movies for on flights etc  i get the cases off ebay full covers with magnetic folding covers (iykwim?) and so cheap and so far have protected them and theyve had them a good while now x

We have two of these instead of the kids version, they are good for the money and perfect for young kids as a first tablet. Amazon are sneaky with subscribing you to things without you knowing such as fire for kids. We complained and got refunds
