You can pretty easily get the Google play store up and running on these!
I was worried that this might be the case (from previous experience with Nook tablet). SD card storage vital for music and videos but you're going to fill up the built-in storage very quickly with apps.
Worth noting that 16Gb ones are available for £10 more at JL and Amazon. And note that if buying from Amazon you get £2 digital credit.
Very tempted though still - will pay for itself in one plane journey.

depends how old your kids are. i have a 5 year old who can navigate it but my 2 year old (almost 3) struggles a bit with the menus.
firstly - yes its easy enough to get the play store installed.
but - amazon claims to have a built in 'kids mode'...and they do...but you cant get play store apps into it..which limits your ability to use the tablet for younger children. it will only recognise apps bought on the amazon appstore.
the reason you might want to lock it down is this , it functions like an android tablet, and the main app screen looks like an android tablet, but the other home screens (video, music, books) show your own content and a selection of content amazon are trying to sell you. in fact on these screens your own content is seldom more that 25% of what is visible. if a younger child went mad on a fire tablet without it being locked down properly they could cost you a fortune. also, if i was buying one for myself, i just couldnt cope with thise advert pages in my way all the time.

My other half has a iPad 2 runs terrible so I'm looking to replace it with something it's just for Internet browsing and one game he plays is clash Royal wonder if it will b suitable good price

i have play store on my kindle fire hd but recently has had problems with Google play services which is a pain in the backside and you have to disable it. i have been thinking of flashing to cm rom but not got round to it as it functions well as it is using games bought from humble bundle and those already downloaded from amazon and google stores. the sound is awesome and wifi strong so is my usual train watching downloaded movies device

My 2 kids have these and are constantly having to delete apps and games. The storage is awful even with a micro sd loaded.

No, the problem is if you use the built-in Fire parental profile, then each kid will have their own virtual storage which cannot be mapped to the SD card. I had the same problem, even with ES Explorer to create symbolic link it wouldn't work as Fire would ignore the link. Even after rooted the device, Fire would not allow kids profile from running other apps to do remapping of the SD card storage.
At the end I had to remove the kids profile and nicely asked my two boys to share single profile and use the internal alarm clock as a reminder of the daily screen time limit we had previously agreed.

Really I don't want him moaning but the lag on iPad is crazy il get him one then should I get a sad card also will he be able to get that game do u know ? Thanks x

just checked amazon apps not there, you would have to install Google playstore manually if your happy doing that. I bought my twins boys from argos eBay lenovo a7, 49 quid plays everything!!!

As I type, you can get the 16GB version (in blue only) at Argos for £40. Maybe the JL extra year's warranty is better though (even if it means getting a bigger SD card)?

If you install a lot of apps that can't be moved to the SD card, then you are going to run out of space on the internal storage quite quickly on the 8GB version.
