Doesn't appear to be a national deal, but Formula 1 in Rotherham are doing Air Con recharges for £20.
Click the "Air Conditioning Re-Gas" link for £39, select the Rotherham branch and the price changes to £20 in the basket
May be useful to someone, I've booked mine in!

Good.
They are always available in groupon to select in different places nationwide if anyone dont know where to buy a cheap bargain.
Some of them will do service or repair as well for under £25.

A good price, as long as you expect them to try and drum up some other business while they have you on the premises.

I used the one in Dartford a couple of weeks ago and had no such issue.

how long does the re-gas takes and what does it involve and do you also ave to pay for workmanship which is separate from the £20 -£25 re-gas charge?

About 30-45 minutes since they start working on your car. Remember they have to empty the system, vacuum test it for leaks, lubricate, recharge, test.

Check the link for the deal - it explains what's involved in detail - you don't pay anything extra - I did this deal a few weeks ago and no money changed hands (just the £20 I spent online).
Worth calling on the morning you scheduled it for - in my case the mechanic was off ill so was asked to bring it the following day.

It's a good deal but I would advise against going to large chains for specialist jobs. Use local mobile air con technicians - I've had my air con serviced and recharged for £25 in front of my house.
Saying that, I've spent about £3000 on repairs at Formula One over the years...

pls can you send me the websites or contact info for this company that recharges yours infront of your house for £25

Thank you for your sound advice. I hope people on here will listen to what you have said, I sure as hell will! I have a colleague who, like you, told me to go to a local garage rather than F1, who may I say, have had not hundreds but thousands of £'s off me....I'm sure some / most was for nowt!
I am happy I did. Local garage guy is fantastic and as honest as they come.

I had my air con done in january at formula 1... it worked at the time, but now its not working... I guess they forgot to tell me the system had a leak.

They don't test for leaks for as long as they should and more often than not use uncalibrated machines. The mechanics are usually jack of all trades, master of none. I went with a defective air con and they said we are not sure where the leak is from but we'll still charge you for one hour's labour. Mobile mechanic came in, found & fixed the leak and recharged all in 55 minutes for the equivalent of one hour's labour at Formula One: £56 (forums are full of similar complaints + see comment #13). Mobile air con technicians are much more experienced in dealing with car air con systems and have very competitive rates.

why do you need to do it. I have never done one since I got my licence.

The air con system is technically airtight but in actual fact refrigerant permeates from the system (around 5-10% every year depending on make). The compressor will stop working properly when the pressure drops under a certain amount. As always maintenance is key: allow it to run even in the winter for an hour or so a week to get the lubricant around the system. Recharge every 3-5 year to maintain adequate pressure in the system and replace lubricant.

thanks for replying, sound like a very good deal then

And there lies the problem. You cannot successfully test a pressurised system under vacuum. A proper air con specialist will pressurise the system to check for leaks. Many air con leaks are caused by old seals letting by under pressure, a vacuum will suck them back in plugging the gap for the test. As soon as the system is pressurised again it will leak.

I used to use f1 regularly but the one I used had really gone down hill. So I don't use them anymore. Sorry OP.
