I've got an R390, and freesync helps, and it does in honesty still look fantastic. But at this extreme resolution, nearly as many pixels as 4K, it does struggle with some games, particularly newer ones. Older ones sometimes don't work with the 21:9 aspect ratio, so it's not a painless experience.

I'll be looking for an upgrade when the new flagship Vega cards are released in early 2017.

Other than that though, this is a fantastic monitor, and I'm delighted with the purchase, even having paid £680. Would definitely buy again. Just wish I had a GPU capable of living up to it! Roll on next year...

got the x34 g sync and its great, but be aware movies etc dont always fit also amazon prime movies trying get them to also fit, only had it 2 days so far so early days, but what I did notice is this didnt hurt my eyes like all the other IPS monitors I had in the past, upgraded from rog swift you could say

Not quite true, G-Sync is nvidia proprietary, freesync is AMD's brand name for VESA A-sync which is an open standard that's entirely free. Nvidia could decide to support it tomorrow for everyone and it'd only take a driver update plus a card with the right displayport standard (1.2a iirc, so that's everything in the last few years).

Unfortunately Nvidia are evil and want to push their own proprietary expensive standards.

​I'd considered it, but I'm new to PC gaming so haven't tried SLI before, and I've seen loads of posts from people saying they wouldn't go back to a dual-card solution again, not supported by some games, etc. I have enough problems with the ultrawide display without adding another complication!

Think rather than investing another £250 or so on another R390, I'll just wait for their flagship cards next year.

Such a shame they're not releasing a high end card this year.

had SLI.. too much headache.. not enough reliable performance for the cost and headache.. sticking to best single card solution I can afford

This res is by far the best there is, probably more immersive than 4k and it pushes less pixels. Just t he pricepoint needs to come down to those of 4k, where you can pick up an ips one for around £350 and TN's for £300ish

this monitor may be swaying my decision regarding next graphics card... was going to wait for the 1070.... now not so sure... looking in the AMD direction... but never liked the power consumption. and heat situation with them... also require something very very quiet... my previous amd cards have always been quite loud.
I always buy at the higher mid end and always consider noise.. going AMD for freesync concerns me for those reasons... any chance of someone having a hack to implement freesync in the geforce drivers?

These kind of monitors won't go down in price anytime soon. Asus PG348Q one was at £999 now it's up to £1099 at most places. Also stock is limited. I kept my eye out at some places for the pass two weeks and managed to get one.

I'm primed and ready to get a new rig once the 1080 arrives next week. so many choices! I've had my eye on the x34 gsync for awhile now...prices close the £900 mark for essentially the same monitor as this. seems expensive but other than the new 21:9 144hz ROG at a K there's not many cheaper options of similar spec. Either way I'll be getting a x34 this week so Im hoping for some kind of bundle discount when I blow 2k on my system - I may as well be cheeky but I doubt it!

Surely can't call a 1070 mid-range when it beats a titan and 980ti? I can't see AMD beating it in the value for money sector, their only hope is to go for those wanting a card inbetween a 980ti-1070 and for just under £200

​I have never noticed the noise on my Sapphire R390 Nitro OC, though I do have a Fractal Define R5 case which is supposed to help with noise.

Also the new high end cards won't be till early 2017. The next batch I guess will be equivalent of the Fury X at best - though cheaper of course - and that's still not QUITE good enough to breeze through at this res......

If you're happy to wait, it's a great buy! Though you never know, by 2017 this kind of screen might well be cheaper.......

The 1070 has been massively hyped. I'd wait a few weeks and actually see the real world performance before stating it beats a Titan X and 980Ti.

The rumour mill is working overtime, apparently due to the hype surrounding the 1070 and 1080 of which none has been confirmed, it's rumoured AMD have brought Vega forward to October 2016, which I strongly suspect is more hype and spurious rumour.

I don't know the real world performance of the 1070/1080 or how good Vega will be. AMD doesn't have an answer to the 1070/1080 this year, but they might not be as good as they're hyped up to be.

2K won't get you far if you're after this monitor and a 1080.

​A nice rig! Have you overclocked the i5? I managed to get mine running stable at 4.6Ghz with the water cooler. Without having any idea what I was doing lol.

I've heard that having faster RAM actually makes a difference these days, so it you were ever considering an upgrade, that might be something that might make a small extra difference.

I'd have loved a PC like that as a kid though!

I've left everything at it's default settings. Pcpartpicker has made it a hell of a lot easier then it would've been. Wished they had something like that back in the day.

Got one of these myself a month or so ago and it's replaced my 2 monitors that I use for trading. It seems strange tho that it has a very thin bezel but there is a 1cm ish of black border of screen on the left, right and top before you get to the screen that actually displays an image (much smaller border on the bottom).

just played that on my x34 looks epic and filled the whole screen, hardly any youtube vids actually fill the screen usually have black bars on the sides
