Because you're paying for something you don't need (tv tuner) and missing out on things you do need (monitor level performance)

On a decent monitor everything is better than a TV. Input response, resolution (if 1080p TV), image quality. I have a 42" 1080p LG TV, it's fine for the PS4 I have but I'd use a 34" 1440p monitor for connecting to the Mac Mini / XW6600 computers I have, I wouldn't think of using the TV.

TVs are also usually too bright to sit on your desk - you'd need sunglasses to sit 2 foot away from them or you'll start squinting.
The resolution is also poor for the size as well.

According to the reviews there is no HDMI

Yes I noticed that. But searching on the mfgs part number (UM.HW3EE.009) returns Acers webpage that states it does have HDMI:
There seems to be more than one 'K272HL' monitor. All with slightly differing part numbers. Could be a mistake on ebuyers part or they have simply got new stock (with HDMI).

Anything above 24" and you should really be looking at a 1440p monitor. Heat for the deal though.
Justme1969 to AadilF1
19 May 161#19
No, not really - if you have a modest PC or games console, 1440p is out of the question. I have used a 27" monitor for about 10 years at a variety of resolutions and its absolutely perfect at 1080p if I want to watch a video or play a PS4 game. This is a matter of budget.

Pixels per inch.
Don't buy this.
That is all.
EDIT:
Also, just saw this review, it makes me wonder what people define phenomenal quality as, especially when comparing it to display on a MBP. I'm not an Apple fan in any shape, but if it's got anything going for it; the display panels they use take a long long long time to age....

Brilliant, sharp picture - phenomenal quality especially considering the price. Puts my MacBook Pro to shame.
Bad Points−
It's obviously a cheap monitor. It's not flimsy but the surface finish on materials, sharp edges etc lacks refinement. But hey, look at the price you are paying - it's a great piece of kit. Have not tried the menu buttons yet - but it worked perfectly for me straight out of the box. "

It's a £110 monitor - not sure why people are commenting on pixels and comparisons to tv's. Decent brand and its big..

This is exactly why people are commenting on pixels and comparisons to TVs. Being ACER branded and having a 27" panel doesn't make it good for £110 at all. Reducing the cost of an already not fit for purpose product is not a way of making it OK.
I'm not trying to be one of those people, but the only application I can understand this being good for is people with less than average eye sight.
Maybe I don't fully understand why having a large monitor is better than having a slightly smaller one with the same resolution, I'm open to an explanation and trying to be constructive. But as far as I can see you may aswell get a 24" 1080p screen.
I'll keep the rest of my opinions to myself to avoid getting into banter about peoples specific needs.
lilbeastie to usetheforceluke
19 May 16#25
the comments about TVs are because someone asked about why people use monitors rather than just buying a TV instead.
The comments on pixel density etc are valid, but have to be taken in context with the price - you can't expect top notch performance for peanuts, and this does seem decent for the money for many people.
UZOR to usetheforceluke

I think they're suggesting getting a smaller 24" option as you'll be able to pick out the individual pixels with the same resolution at 27". Text well look blocky for example. Speaking as a 24" 1080 user who can just make out the pixels at that ppi at a normal working distance of around 2ft I don't think it's a good idea to stretch those pixels further unless it's going to be used for games and tv and not much else.

YOU dont see why someone would want this and you can't go in to specifics of an individual because that would make your arguments invalid.
For people looking for a 1080p 27inch monitor in this price bracket this is good.
Bigger monitor= more immersion, as it fills more of your view. Hence 34 inch 21:9 monitors are great for gaming.

Resolution is relative to how far you sit from the screen. A screen like this is great for a bedroom.
Acceptable for PC use and acceptable for viewing Netflix from bed.
Resolution junkies would tell you a 1080p 60" screen viewed from 8 metres away would be too low. Those same people probably watch the football down the pub on an 80" projection at 800x600 pixels.

Doesn't even have HDMI according to reviews, poor monitor in my humble opinion, and a slow response at 6ms, most monitors in the 1-200 quid range are 3-5, maybe even 1

I'd say most people are fine with a 6ms response time. Considering someone is buying this they probably haven't got a gaming rig that'll do 1080p60fps so I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is probably a good basic monitor for your office or whatever.

Lol my old GPU was a R9 280 and it games at 1440p fine. Current R9 390X has no issues either. If you watch the Potato Masher video series on YouTube even a very modest gaming PC will easily run games at 1440p.

While many games are rendered well these days that is kinda not true, of coursea better pc with a more powerful cpu, gpu, better/more RAM etc... would run games faster or at better visuals. If you were right everyone would be building old 200 quid pentium PCs and banging out BF4 on Ultra
True, for an office setup or ok tv I guess... altho the fact that its Acer and meant to *doesnt* have HDMI means many people will consider it for gaming, and its really just not up to the task in terms of gaming

I'm looking for something around this size to use as TV in the bedroom. Would this work fine as a TV with a sky box connected to it? Also can anyone actually confirm whether or not it has a HDMI port? Any help is much appreciated
No idea on the HDMI etc, but I doubt it has speakers which can make it a pain to use as a TV - unless you have something in place already paying the extra few quid for a TV will probably be cheaper (and look better) than buying this and some separate speakers or a soundbar.
