Bought this one in ASDA Doncaster, they had very limited stock. So be quick! It was reduced from £449 on Thursday morning.
Haven't seen this posted anywhere else, so apologies if it's already on here.

Purchased last September for my son's room , very happy with it.
Great for gaming and watching Tv.
In September I will take out the 2 years warranty as advised by Asda rather than at the point of sale , so I will have three years rather than two.

Not surprising considering Nicam has been obsolete for years now.

I also noticed these in our local Asda the other day, and thought it a very good price for a 55" TV, so well done OP, this is a good find and I've added some heat in support.
I note the comments above about this being a waste of money because it does not have an expensive badge, those posts often appear and are almost always unjustified. My own experience with inexpensive TV versus branded ones (Digihome vs. Toshiba) is that the cheaper sets are just as well made and reliable, the only difference is they cost one third as much. I suspect someone will say I'm wrong (and that it is important to pay £400 more for a badge for no apparent reason but to impress one's neighbours), but they will offer no evidence in support of their view.

Since when was Toshiba the benchmark for an "expensive branded TV"?
Othen. Toshiba don't make most of their own TVs anymore either. Been the case for a few years.

14 May 16#32
There's a good reason your comparison showed similar 'quality', they are both budget. Toshiba haven't produced TVs for years, instead their name is added to budget sets typically made by Vestel.
This is a great price for a 55" TV though I prefer my purchases to last and this is highly unlikely to do that. Upside is they are often easy to fix (not that someone buying this is likely to do so when the inevitable occurs).
A friend has an 18 month young Hitachi tv sitting in his hall as he bought another rather than using his legal rights to have it repaired, madness!

Toshiba and Digihome use Vestel panels. I bought a digihome a few weeks back and returned it, changed it for a Toshiba, returned that. Although the Toshiba pic quality was better than the digihome, neither were close to a 6 year old LG I was replacing, nor was the sound.

Just do your own research to substantiate what your saying. There are plenty of places to learn about the difference in quality on TV technology. Try it.
Av forums might be a good place to start. Or maybe you would prefer which!
This TV will display a picture. Yes! No optical is just one of the cost cutting exercises used to bring the price down. The others will be picture processing and on and on. Please get real.

14 May 161#16
I bought a 50" one and returned it straight away due the fact Asda advertised it as having an optical out which it doesn't. I even called to tell them and it was still showing as having it a month later. A decent TV for upstairs but not for your front room if you want decent sound. I have an LG OLED now and wouldn't have anything else.

This isn't great for sports or gaming. If you want a big TV for soaps and the odd movie great but it isn't going to hold well with fast motion.

I'm no expert on gaming (although my son's Playstations seem to work perfectly well on an inexpensive TV), but is your comment based on any evidence? I like this web site, and find it genuinely useful in deciding upon purchases, but it is so much more helpful if people substantiate claims.
Best wishes,

I'm not sure I understand your question toonarmani. It seems irrelevant whether Toshiba is a benchmark or not, it is a fact that Toshiba is a very well established brand and so charges a premium on its branded products. If you mean that in your opinion Toshiba is not a good marque then say so and justify it (I suspect you will not be able to in any cogent way).
Best wishes,
O

why do people see the size and then see the price and think that equals a hot deal or good price. If the TV's image and sound are shocking then it is not worth any amount of money. if I bought a TV with bad picture quality I would want the TV as small as possible so I didn't have to be subjected to it wherever I looked.

My evidence is only my experience former AV product trainer at Panasonic and Samsung. Such a big panel at such a low price doesn't always mean it the best. Honestly if you want some advice on a TV go to an independent TV seller. There isn't a bad TV anymore but you get what you pay for. Panasonic TV expect the two highest models are no longer made by Panasonic but Vestel models branded Panasonic.

Excellent post nattybuk, this is exactly what this site is about: making informed choices on whether bargains are really bargains.
My experience is only as an owner, but I find out cheap Digihome TV to be in every way I can discern as good as the far more expensive Toshiba and Samsung sets we have.
It is interesting that Panasonic sets are made by Vestel, as was the Digihome set I bought a few weeks ago. They could easily come from the same factory, and whilst the Panasonic may use some better components (although perhaps from the same Chinese factories), I doubt that it justifies a price 3-5 times higher.
Best wishes,

Picture tuning options are dependent on the chipset used in the tv, coupled with the panel a bad combination of the two and you will never get a good picture. Cannot comment on the screen used in this panel as I do not know, but do not assume that it will have a great array of picture tuning options as most likely it will be basic at best.

I take online reviews with a pinch of salt. If you look at them in detail, so many people who give a product 5 Stars will explain why they did so via comments like 'was delivered on time', 'looks really shiny & clean', 'delivery guys took TV upstairs..thx Argos xxx', 'my 3 year old granddaughter loves watching CBeebies on this TV', 'screen was flatter than I expected...keep up the good work Polaroid' etc etc etc
And so on....

panasonic, toshiba, sharp, hitachi, bush, grundig, polaroid, alba, luxor, next, M & S and some sony sets are made by either vestel or beko in Turkey. This does not make the TV's bad just check out AV forums and make your own choice. A TV this size for next to nothing is great but the downsides are repairs. I have been on the otherside of a branded TV that died within 3 years & was not worth repairing and Samsung were not helpful as they state 12 months warranty clause. A TV costing over £500 should last more than 3 years but hey ho try invoke the act that protects you and they laugh.

Sharp is made by UMC
tipsy1973
15 May 16#51
Sharp was among the Top 100 R&D Spenders in a list published by the IEEE Spectrum magazine in 2002.
In September 2014, Sharp announced that Slovakian electronics company UMC was acquiring an exclusive brand licence from Sharp and its European television and audio business UMC will also acquire Sharp’s Polish factory. As part of the deal, Sharp will support the design and development of televisions sold by UMC under the Sharp brand[37]
The same month, Sharp also announced a tie-up with Vestel in Europe for white goods. Vestel will sell Sharp-branded white goods (except air conditioners), such as refrigerators and microwave ovens manufactured by Sharp in Thailand and China. Sharp will also license its brand name to Vestel for volume home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and ovens. Sharp’s remaining European business will then focus on the business to business sector including multi-function printers and energy solutions.
never knew that and I though Vestel had all of it till I read that

Just got one of these yesterday, wasn't expecting much but I have to say I'm impressed.
This replaces a Samsung 3d tv cost £1700 5 years ago which has just failed, the 3d part was a waste of money too, maybe watched 3 times and I have to say that this Polaroid is at least as good if not slightly better.
In perspective the Samsung works out to whopping £340/year so if the polaroid only last one year it's far better value for money.
I would never pay mega money again for a "branded TV" I'll leave those for the brand snobs out there.
