DDR4 is pretty new, make sure if you are upgrading their current motherboard supports it!

I am also looking for some to add to my existing 8GB ddr3. Any good deals preferably under £30.
Is the Crucial basics good enough to pair with my Samsung ram? I will be using it for CAD applications.

On the slow side with 2400MHz yes.

Would there be any issues mixing 2x4GB Patriot Viper and 2x of these?

Remember you'll need to order a new motherboard as well - DDR4 is not backwards compatible with DDR3, the DIMM won't even fit. Unless you already have a DDR4 motherboard of course.

I must resist buying two of these! I already have 16gb of ram

Potentially. You should check the speed of your existing RAM, as you may find this slower RAM drags down the speed of the faster RAM. If so, you will need to decide if you want a larger capacity of slower-running RAM.
If you run CPU-Z (Google it) and post the report, or screenshots of the first, third, fourth, and fifth tabs someone should be able to advise you more accurately. (Post the fifth tab results for each current stick on the fifth tab, unless they're the same.)
