I'm a mature student and I have an account with Unidays, and along with the amazing discounts I came across this discount.
45% off Parcelforce online.
I was selling some of my trainers and the post office wanted £11.99 if I wanted insured up to £100 and tracked.
Using the Parcelforce discount code ...........UK09EU5
£5.60!

It is SO easy to jump to conclusions. But those conclusions, in this instance, are wrong.
Royal Mail made half yearly profits of £240 million. This is a fairly meagre profit for a company with 160,000 employees. UK parcel revenues also dipped by 1% (explains why they are trying to pump interest in the business...). So no, they do not rip you off with their prices -- they are just trying to compete in a HIGHLY competitive market.
By comparison, BT (88,500 employees), made nearly £900 million of profits in just THREE months. It employs less people, yet makes significantly more than Royal Mail.
So yes, before jumping to conclusions, why not apply some critical thinking?! It'll serve you well.

Comparing privatisations of public owned assets 30 years apart maybe is not the best way of pointing out your point. Also BT held alot more physical assets and monopoly longer than RM ever will to capitalise on.

9 May 16#33
Seaniboy. I was responding to the other people's comments about how RM 'always rip you off'.
That clearly cannot be the case given the meagre profits generated in relation to the number of people employed.
My comment regarding BT was to show how RM really isn't scalping us when compared to the other monoliths out there.

What a way to get a promotion voided and removed from unidays. The deal is exclusively for students approaching the end of their semester and looking to relocate or move their belonging back home as end of year accommodation arrangements change. As for your envelope story, I don't see how it could have cost that much - unless of course you are signing up for the fools tax that is First Class? Up to 750g, 2nd Class is £2.09 (or £2.46 first class)

at first glance prices dont look competitive even with discount compared to, say, hermes ?
e.g. £10.10 for 2kg parcel, drop off at depot, express48 - with discount this is £5.56
Hermes 2kg normal price, no discount, is £3.78 (& you can get a 10% discount via studentbeans IIRC)
Only competitive price is drop off & collect from depot e.g. £2.64 with discount for above example but most peple
will be posting ebay parcels & buyers wont want to collect from depot
Price look more competitive for heavier items though - havent done the sums

9 May 16#58
I have no idea, I don't often measure envelopes. But my point as earlier, I could have sent a 1kg parcel through a courier, cheaper.
So they charge £2.85 me for a large envelope, or "small parcel" weighing 0.35kg. And somehow a 2 kg parcel is 5p cheaper according to the reply above.
Not really the way to entice people to use the post office.

wenttoabetterplace
9 May 161#71
Scalping?! They have to provide a universal service that no other provider even get close to providing. (You know, the service that takes post out to the highlands and islands of this nation). They also charge less than any competing provider for what is effectively a 2 day delivery on a 2KG package. Their Special Delivery service is second to none - both for reliability, and for what is covered via their £500 of insurance. & in my experience, Parcelforce are fast and reliable...
I guess we have different measures when we assess 'scalping'
seaniboy
10 May 16#72
The service is alot more poorer, my postie or my old mans arrive 'whenever' during the day, for 35 years it was 7-8am, then 10.30 for a few years, now its 10.30-3.30pm, changes time and postie almost daily...delivering on the 2nd day at 3.30pm onwards is 3 days not 2. Old man also has a mud path start between him and neighbours in the last few years as most the cheeky beggars walk across the lawn...I did not even do that as a underpaid paperboy. I'm sorry but the service up north is shocking now.

UniDays needs a .ac.uk email address right?, or .....
There's a way to get around a LOT of such prerequisite .ac.uk email address formalities too? (from what I've heard from HUKD a few times last year, etc?).
Does such method/methods still exist again?, and/or if so, how would I go about fulfilling the .ac.uk workaround bit as well too? (if possible?).
Thanx. :-)

Parcel Force are great. 2 days to the Highlands with Parcel Force 24. Whereas Hermes takes 7-8 days - and that's when their courier is "in the area" - otherwise he just marks it as "addressee not present", even though he hasn't been anywhere near!

Welcome to commercialism... I use RM for letters on a rare occasion - usually prepaid or high priority, besides I buy loads and its not my fault RM cant pitch against its competitors for big business deliveries who send me my goods - RM is running a business like a government dept and relying on stamps and people in a digital age, not where it should - big business. Fear not if it fails we will just take it over again and sell it below value again....welcome to commercialism. I'm just off to pay my taxed income into the RBS and Lloyds to transfer to other external higher % saving accounts, I will be sure to wave to the posties though

I mean you dont need to listen to those on the ground in any industry whenever a Tory government is in place you bet your life they will sell anything off, Euro Tunnel anyone?...NHS? History tells us.....BT...Energy....Britosh Steel.
The thing is when they then pay low wages - tax credits and Housing/Council Benefit and the cost of administration of all them it is cost effective to pass public ownership of the above to a co-op not a undervalued sale to private corporation.
Example:
A single person - line rental at £18.99 on minimum wage with no tax credit...where the inclusion ? for basic communication calls or more to get online. All the while Openreach makes profit as a BT division.
Public services should be converted to co-op's with CEO's with proven track experience in that field, not outsourced and not sold off.
Labour has never even thought of legislation to protect any of the above being privatised over co-op'ing.
Labour overspend, Tory undercut and privatise - none of them are actually progressive past a 5 year term. You cant plan anything greatly in this country because both parties work on a short term and change things at a whim.
By 2050 both will be minority parties, because people are starting to realise they serve themselves more than civic society.

Got an email from ParcelForce about the student discount being 40% with UNiDAYs:
Opening post

Hope the force on Parcels isn't as bad as this :disappointed:

You need to select globalpriority
Who ever needs a unidays code if you Google unidays you can join with them by confirming student status

Spotify offer 50% off for students. Why shouldn't Parcelforce offer 45% off?! They are obviously doing this code with business logic in mind.

Is it just a coincidence that today is the 9th day of the 5th Month? Maybe the code for tomorrow will be UK10EU5?
Yes I believe that to be correct.
Win.
Parcelforce know what they are doing.
That clearly cannot be the case given the meagre profits generated in relation to the number of people employed.
My comment regarding BT was to show how RM really isn't scalping us when compared to the other monoliths out there.
If you need to send some low value, low weight stuff you can try normal royal mail but unless it is a letter it will cost more...
Too busy bro!
As for your envelope story, I don't see how it could have cost that much - unless of course you are signing up for the fools tax that is First Class? Up to 750g, 2nd Class is £2.09 (or £2.46 first class)
So they charge £2.85 me for a large envelope, or "small parcel" weighing 0.35kg. And somehow a 2 kg parcel is 5p cheaper according to the reply above.
Not really the way to entice people to use the post office.
My parcel is 25x25x10 cm and weighs approx 850g.
How do you get the referral credit? I searched Google (other search providers are available) but nothing came up.
RM are scalping us, rates have gone up as have the new private managements wages.
I guess we have different measures when we assess 'scalping'
There's a way to get around a LOT of such prerequisite .ac.uk email address formalities too? (from what I've heard from HUKD a few times last year, etc?).
Does such method/methods still exist again?, and/or if so, how would I go about fulfilling the .ac.uk workaround bit as well too? (if possible?).
Thanx. :-)
I don't have a UniDays email, codes work regardless.
Most codes can be found online.
A: Six: One to leave you in the dark, another five to not give a ****
You could have saved even more via P4D.co.uk (and a £10 referral credit  )
By 2050 both will be minority parties, because people are starting to realise they serve themselves more than civic society.
thanks OP

same error coming up with UK20EU6 do you know if they have changed voucher code? Thanks
It's UK27EU6 currently. Hope this helps.
Thanks:)
The discount code provided is not available based on available pickup dates and times for the collection postcode you have chosen
UK15EU8
Thanks
The first part of the code refreshes every Monday, and the last part of the code refreshes every month.
What date was it Monday?
EU
Followed by the number ten for October.
As mentioned many times, it's a very simple sequence and a kid in a primary school could work it out
I don't have unidays, I just used me noggin.
At the end of the day, the more people who find out about this will potentially ruin it for the genuine students out there. If too many do it, Parcelforce will pull it!
Have you got this week's code for us please??
TIA!!!
anyone could share a different 40% code that might work
I hope you don't mind me asking you now and then?
