Just received an email saying these are available for "pre-order", googling, I found this from November:-

Be nice if anyone has any actual footage or feedback :)

I totally agree and would add, there's no need for brakes on cars either.
There are plenty of walls and trees near our roads. 99% of the time, the car backs down and stops for the wall/tree.

Tempted to get one for the back of my car (have a Drivepro 200 for the front, but starting to think the back would be handy as well).

Anyone know of any good Dash Cams that record Front and Rear view on the same camera?

Just buy one and try it, if you're not happy with the qulaity simply return it,

Aldi are good like that.

I have the same problem with the brass mount pulling out, plus the unit keeps freezing, no input buttons work and needs a reset, just a pain.

Just reviewed the footage and agree with comments that footage is somewhat blurry. I've now changed it down to 720p and its marginally better than FHD/1080p so would recommend doing that. No issues with battery to be honest but i do plug it in all the time to make sure so not really an issue for me.
Fairly large compared to some others on the market so I don't leave it in the car or hard wire it.
Overall, if you needed to use the footage in the event of anything, the quality would be good enough to submit as evidence. Number plates will only show up clearly around 40m in front at best but if you take down there reg, insurance company will still be able to match the reg to the car that is showing on the footage.
Worth buying for £29.99 at Aldi if you don't have masses of cash to spend. I'm going to buy a Nextbase cam probably around summer so this will just tie me over until then.
Hope this reviews helps.

Certainly does, thanks for the effort.
Ended up buying 2 in order to compare as first one was blurry, 2nd one is fine so will return the first clearly faulty one. Agree on running 720p, will take up less memory too.
As for the size, to me it's not too big, get a right angled mini USB connector and place black tape over the silver part around the lens so it doesn't stand out. It looks a cheap chinese make so less likely for someone to break into car, they may also think there being recorded so will hopefully walk away.

One thing that is annoying me is I'm sure I read the device would record for a further 10mins after switching off engine, I selected auto turning off 10mins but turns off after a few seconds. How is it for you?

Took mine back today, one of the mounts pulled out of the camera just attaching it and picture quality was blurry.

Maybe an old phone, although the lack of wide angle and the usually poor low light performance of phone cameras would be an issue.

It could get ridiculously hot mounted under a raked windscreen in bright sunshine which might kill the phone and would reduce the life of the battery. The electronics in expensive dashcams are usually designed to cope with the heat. Even some of the cheap ones use supercapacitors instead of a battery to avoid problems with failing or swelling lithium cells.
DarkReborn11

Price reflects quality. Depends on your smartphone which is usually risky leaving in car parked and with cheap looking dashcams you can leave inside, perhaps take out overnight especially if your road isn't well lit, won't capture anything.

I was using a phone but it was a bit of a headache, wouldn't auto start (app or my phone had the issue) and the mount I had was too shaky. No wide angle so see less of the road and had to remove/mount constantly unless leaving car parked for a short while on a busy public road.

Quality looks pretty awful on these. Would it not be better just to mount your smartphone to the dashboard and use an app?

Aldi Special buys online

They were actualy available as pre-order with free delivery, was going to order myself but decided to pop into my local which I bought today.

Just played back some footage recorded today, picture quality is blurry so seems faulty. Running 720p, rather than upscaled 1080p. 720p takes up about 660mb for 5mins, covers less than an hour worth of driving on 8gb, definitely needs 32gb card.
Caught an idiot biker overtaking traffic heading towards me in my lane and had to move left otherwise would have clipped me, all lost.

I use a mobius cam as it's so small - stuck to a rear headrest with Velcro and its hardly noticeable. A 3m usb power lead off eBay is handy too for discreetly running the cable to a power source.

Agree with you on the GW1H,I have one. I had the Godson in the car,and was telling him about a roundabout ahead were some people always try and cut in at the last moment to turn left, as I was saying it, bang, it happened to the car in front. Footage was crystal clear.

Led lights are worse than completely useless on dashcams, if you turned them on, be they IR or visible, they'll reflect off the windscreen and dazzle the camera.

Well I guess you could use them if you intend to take the dashcam out of the car and take pictures of your accident, however the batteries in dashcams usually only last a couple of minutes if that and I think its best not to make the other driver aware that you have a dashcam if they are at fault; as they may intend to give a false account to police and might drive off, or become aggressive and try to take it off you.

If you are after a budget dashcam the original G1WH is fairly good, look for one with a NT96650 processor and Aptina AR330 sensor - it's a 1/3" sensor which makes it pretty good in low light. There are several other budget cameras that use the same chips, if you want one with a long battery runtime take a look at the mobius, no screen, but really compact.

Obviously have never driven in Spain, where they have had parking sensor for the past 35 years to my knowledge, when they hear the bang they know that they cannot reverse any more, hence why I've purchased one.

well having just read the manual it highlights a few possible problems one being that the battery life is shown as up to 1.5 hours well that blows out of the water.
Keeping tabs on your car's security while you are off having fun.
Micro SD card 32GB or less Class 4 minimum, class 6 maximum.
The led mode is not to be used while driving so is it going to cope with recording nighttime incidents?
barton33
8 May 16 1 #15
theres no need for good picture quality with dashcams , as 99%of the time the other driver backs down once he even thinks you have footage , get a dummy even !

I have this but got it from Tesco petrol station in top valley nottingham. Footage isn't amazing, it claims 1080p HD it is good but not good enough to see a reg plate but it made my insurance 10% cheaper with AXA so paid for itself..very grainy.footage and kind of choppy i found but im sure it'd do the job.. However I only paid 19.99 so couldnt mumble and the battery is amazing..I often leave it on in the car and it lasts 5-6 hours..one time I finished work at 11pm (started at 12.30am) and it was still recording..only other issue i have had is with it resetting itself and not auto recording despite auto record being on...has done it once so far. I plan on keeping it for the back of my car tbh and swapping it in a few weeks when i get my garmin dashcam 30..

Hopefully they have improved these since the last batch in November. All the comments from them mentioned this is not true 1080p. Instead it's interpolated "enhanced" 720p.

Personally and after lots of research I got a a118 or b40 dashcam about 2 year ago. Can't fault it. Lovely and discreet, hard wired it in myself so no plugging in or out, there's no silly massive screen in the way, it's just there out of the way and I can forget about it.

The biggest turn off to me with dashcams is the ones with the silly big sink plunger on them.

Anyhow I think they are about £35 on ebay and stuff, I'm sure price is increasing since I got mine. They are also 1080p, and the picture quality is great.

I brought one last November; can't fault it for the price. It seems fairly good at night, but it's my first dash cam so have nothing to compare it too. Also I haven't tried anything larger than the supplied 8gb.

Only real negative is the battery. was OK at first, but now only seems to last seconds when not plugged in and it swtiches off. Not a big deal for me personally as I always have it plugged in, but could be an issue for some. Might just be a fault with my unit as well.

Does anyone have this cam ?
What is it like in the dark - as a lot of these cams white out when headlights come towards you so the chances of catching "an event" especially in town can be iffy.
Does it support more than an 8GB card that is supplied with?
How long does this card last before overwrites occur? i.e. could you use it to monitor your car whilst your away from it, incase it experienced a "parked event"?
willysnapper to whydoiwastemytimehere
6 May 16 #7
I'd also like to hear from those who commented on the previous offer back in November.
It supports cards below 32GB and min. class 4
The above YT clips show only gloomy winter in Manchester!, but the night time one does seem to "glare out" with oncoming headlights.
The onboard battery will last, it says about 2Hrs.
As always with "Parked events", a CCTV camera pointed at the car will serve both as a deterrent and if you're lucky, evidence of murky doings!
