Great for the times when people want to take a trolley off you and give you a £1 coin.

When the new pound coins start will these not fit in trollies, or will they only accept this sort of token thing?

Give up on trolly coins. You always lose them eventually and they are unwieldy.
switch to a trolly Key
You push them in and pull them out, no needing to worry about retrieving a coin, if the trolly bay doesn't have your type of trolly etc. Smaller than a key so barely noticeable on your car keys.
Its a wierd one but i cannot believe just how much more convenient i have found these.

I've got a trolley coin somewhere never had a problem with it, at asda you can just pull it straight out again anyway and shove it back on your keyring then shop with a coinless trolley, considering I kept it on the long chain with my purse it wouldn't be very good having something that stays attached to my keyring because then I would be leaving my purse dangling from a trolley or be chained to the trolley via the the long chain attached to my belt loop.

Maybe a bit like plastic carrier bags we should take the trolleys back next time we go to the supermarket even though they're only a pound.

That's what i meant, the key doesn't stay in the trolly, push in, pull out and its 'coinless' if you will.

Hate to say it, but my £1 coins have been gobbled up many times by Tesco trolleys. Very annoying/semi-expensive in the long run!

Pound coins are being replaced by a hexagonal type pound coin because of the high amount of fakes that exist, if people don't trust the currency then its pretty worthless so I think it was the royal mint and govt. that said so look it up on google
Error440
15 May 161#30
2hy the hell would they think counterfeiters cant do a hexagon, what ever they do the counterfeiters will too, we should go back to using gold and silver
Anon32
15 May 162#31
Not at one point did i nor did the govt. say counterfeiters couldn't copy it but when they've had 33 years for the existing coins i'm sure this one will be harder to copy it will also be new and therefore less fakes will be in circulation rather than the 1 in 33 thats is currently

The only problem with these is people get really attached & narky about them. I had a crazy woman at Aldi accuse me of stealing her trolley with her fake pound thingy in it from the car park. Even though I had put my very own pound puppy from the Andrex promotion in at the trolley bay, never even went near her car! She even followed me in to the store & continued to yell her accusation at me in the store.
Also one time I put my pound puppy in a Poundland trolley & then went to release it but there were no releases on the other trolleys, they offered me a pound which I would have taken if I it had a hole in it to attach to my key ring but we ended up getting it out in the end.

I always ask a member of staff and they graciously unlock a trolley for me which in turn I kindly leave in the middle of the car park.
or you can use one of these coins and put a strong ring on it, you can then pull it out once it has released the trolley from the others and you can then leave it like the one above. :stuck_out_tongue:

wonder why they made the new £1 a mm wider, if it was the same then many trollies likely wouldn't have needed a change (maybe 1mm is ok though?)
could have shrunk it if anything - surely a saving on material costs either way!
oh.. and these are being given out free at lidl again.. well a plastic one (not on a ring) with lidl logo on anyway

On some trolleys you can just stick any old key in and wiggle the locking mechanism open.
