Nothing. Waiting on reply from merchant. Pretty disgraceful really. There is no excuse for this not to have tracked immediately. I know cash back is not guaranteed, but this seems like a deliberate attempt to reel people in and then not pay out. i.e. a con. £70 is not a trivial amount.

I just meant a photo of the laptop from a relatively close distance, but not so close that you can't see the rest of the laptop and the scale is lost.

13 May 16#129
How do you propose that such a picture would be presented? Unless you have a device capable of showing 3200x1800 pixels in a 13" diagonal I don't see how you can get an accurate impression of detail and size. I could take a screen print or a photograph, but how would you view it?

For some of us we absolutely are. As I already mentioned earlier, I use 3200x1800 at 100% and have no problem reading text at this size. I don't have fabulous eyesight either. I'm 53 and wear reading glasses. I use the laptop for hours at a time and have no ill effects from eye strain or headaches.

13 May 16#125
Yeah the FHD model. Haven't seen the QHD version but the screen on the FHD model is really nice and doesn't have the battery life implications of the QHD. Not really sure of the point of the extra pixels on a 13" screen above 1080p as I am already using it at 125% zoom (comes configured to 150% by default), I could go down to 100% but it would be a bit of a strain to read some stuff, so we aren't talking about screen real-estate anymore, right?

Just got home and started playing with mine, really impressed so far. No signs of wear, looks great in my opinion and you can tell it is very well built. Couldn't be happier at this point.
Battery test was 53,481/57,532 which seems OK.
Will be even happier if the cashback gets paid.
Thanks for the post OP.

I returned it the day after I received it so it didn't take me too long to make my mind up
They send a courier around to collect it from your address and then it takes around 3-5 days to receive a refund.
2manymilos

How long did you take to return it after purchase? I'm wondering if I need to use the 14 day period or if they are a bit more accommodating if they recognise the issue
SD1266
12 May 16#117
That buzzing noise was also driving me mad... I had to return mine in the end.
It's crazy how these sort of issues are not fixed asap... There have been reports of the buzzing noise since the release of the XPS 13 but there is still no fix.
2manymilos
11 May 16#116
Tough call and I'm not still 100% decided, partly due to a slight buzzing noise on the QHD when I touch the screen or hover the mouse pointer over tabs or some graphics. It's a known issue and whilst it's barely noticeable I can hear it in a quiet room. Dell Tech support were unable to resolve and offered me a refund.. there's the problem, I know I got the QHD for a good price and will struggle to get close to another 9350 QHD for £765 , so I need to think a little more.
There are plenty of reviews in favour of both screen options and it comes down to your personal use of the laptop, budget, battery needs, touch, reflectiveness concerns etc.
Side by side, using YouTube 4K videos, I can see a slight improvement in clarity with the QHD. With text and web pages the FHD is a little less crisp, whites are a little yellow tinged. However, it's still a great image.
tdodd
11 May 16#115
Search on YouTube for xps 13 qhd vs fhd
kanzzz
11 May 161#114
Clever. I went with the FHD version based on reviews and perceived value and thought that FHD would be adequate upgrade from my 2011 Macbook air which is not even near 1080p. Kind of regret not giving the QHD a shot now.
Could you tell me more about the difference between the two? Is it worth the price difference all things considered, battery life, hassle of exchanging etc.
The screen is the most important and impressive part of this laptop so hence why I'm being a mitch and so indecisiveness atm.
2manymilos
11 May 16#113
I cheated a little and ordered 2 i5s, one with FHD (1080) and one QHD (1800) and will return one. It was about £75 more for the QHD, (£765 total including VAT and before any TCB, not relying on that but claim lodged) all other hardware is the same.
I think I'll keep the QHD as it does look brighter, slightly whiter than the FHD. Also I would prefer touchscreen but I can see that the FHD matte screen has its advantages with no reflections. I ran a couple of battery tests, playing a 1080 movie on repeat the FHD lasted nearly 11 hours whilst the QHD was 7.5. Another one using battery eater, rendering graphics, they both died after about 3.5 hours.
mistermoleymole
11 May 16#112
Oowh very good. You heard anything back yet? Has anyone else raised a ticket?
tdodd
11 May 16#111
I paid £880.15 with the discount code, but excluding cash back. It's the XPS 13 9350 with i7-6560U, 8GB, 256GB, 3200x1800, Win 10 Pro x64.
Battery was showing full capacity available as delivered. I can't comment on battery life because I only use it with mains power at all times. Expect to take a hit with the spec I have.
FWIW the scaling was set to 250% by default, but I use it at 100% for maximum data on screen at once. That's why I bought the high resolution screen. I have no trouble reading fonts and icons at 100%.

Interesting. I may try and switch to the QHD model. Which model did you get exactly and for how much?
tdodd
11 May 16#108
I'm completely happy with my 3200x1800 display. Is there a better 13" screen available anywhere in a laptop with the same footprint or any footprint? This thing is no bigger than my XPS 11 with 11.6" and only 2560x1440. And I understand fully that pixels are not the whole story. There is colour accuracy, gamut, contrast and so on to consider and on all counts the 1800p display is excellent.
I can't comment on the 1080p version as that would be a downgrade for me and a pointless purchase.

Its a nice machine. Generally zippy and very quiet. Feels and looks much more quality in person, very well built. Trackpad scrolling a bit rough and inconsistent lol.
Have been out of the Windows game for so long (coming from a 2011 Macbook Air) is that with so many decent looking Windows ultrabook options on the market, that the Dell (apart from the infinity edge) still looks like something from 1995 to me. Check out some of HPs offerings, those things are sleek af.
Now I have 13 more days to decide if i want to give up the infinity edge for a much better looking Spectre x360 (black and gold edition) with touch screen and full hdmi....

Press the windows key, type cmd and open 'Command Prompt'. Then you'll need to type 'powercfg/batteryreport'. It will then tell you where the report is saved to.
When you open the report you can then compare the 'design capacity' of the battery with the 'full charge capacity' of your own laptop. The lower the number of the 'full charge capacity' compared to the design capacity, the worse the battery is

A little, it's the wrong way round to, but hoping that's just a setting. Check for updates from Dell, as I know the TouchPad has been something that a lot of people complained about, but updates apparently made it better. Whether this is better, or not though, I'm not sure just yet.

Been looking at one of these for a while - I have a six-ish year old XPS 15 which I'm trying to justify replacing to myself! My big issue is would would an ultrabook like this feel too cramped to work on after being used to a 15 inch? (Also why do so few companies make 14inch laptops which looks like it would be the portability / usability sweet spot!?)

Buy the new XPS 15 (9550), it has the footprint of a 14" machine with a 15" display. I also have an original XPS 15 (L501x) that I don't want to get rid of on account of the excellent BG+RLED display and JBL audio.

Right now I'm using a Dell XPS 11 with 11.6" 2560x1440 display at 100% - no scaling - and it's served me well for just over two years used like that. It is absolutely fine for my 53 year old eyes with my reading glasses. The only thing I don't like about it is the keyboard, which is why......
I've just ordered the 3200x1800 XPS 13 to replace it and I fully intend to use it at 100% also. I'll take all the resolution I can get and I want to make use of every pixel.
SD1266
29 Apr 16#54
I guess it just depends on which programs you intend on using... For me, eclipse (a Java development IDE) was impossible to use due to scaling...

Macbook pro have better : GPU + Screen + Speakers + Build quality + better value for resell + better fault quality of production + track pad
Dell i5-6200U - Intel® HD Graphics 520 (GT2) 24 Execution Units (EUs)
Mac Core i5-5257U - Intel Iris Graphics 6100 (GT3) with 48 EUs. Twice more power than dell X 2 times more FPS in games
Nexusfifth to Incognitoso
29 Apr 16#52
If you are going to use either of these machines for "proper" gaming you are in for a surprise. Both will do very badly. And number of EU's most certainly does not give double the fps. (iris might get 5-10 fps more in some games than standard HD 520).
If you want to game you can find immeasurably better laptops than either of these. (FYI Apple never built a gaming machine)
These are mainly intended for portability and possibly some casual gaming and in that respect I would take an xps 13 over Mac pro any day.

Very few programs I use have an issue with it on a 9530 XPS15.
I currently use it on it's own, or connected to a 40" 4k, but also have used 24-28" FHD. All worked fine with relative scaling.
Remote desktop the only one I've really had a big issue with - it does scale in Windows 10, but that doesn't seem to work to Server 2012.

All laptops compare to macbook but not macbook to dell : )
I will hold my money for macbook pro 13.3 on ebay they for £800+

Tried a macbook pro in store while I was looking for a new machine and found the keyboard horrible - squashy and totally lacking feedback. I type a LOT so for me this is a major issue!

128gb would be ideal. Plan to stick in a Samsung 950 512gb those things fly.
None on the outlet store atm though.
Was that the FHD you got?

Yeah, 1080p version. Although the ultra high-res screen does look nice, scaling on windows 10 is not great at the moment. Most programs end up looking microscopic and you end up having to change the resolution anyway in order to be able to use them...

best rated ultrabook on the market atm, considering getting one. anyone had experience with Dell Outlet Certified Refurbed? How are these?

It always pays to check the main site though as sometimes the outlet ones aren't much cheaper.
I've had 2 XPS laptops and an XPS desktop from the outlet over the years and the only problem I've ever had (if you can call it that) is the desktop arrived with the 32GB ssd setup as secondary storage instead of as the cache for the spinning rust like it was supposed to, but that was easy to sort (Just a software configuration issue)
Even the "Scratch and dent" laptop I had it was a tiny mark on the hinge only noticeable if you were looking for it.
I'm not totally unconvinced some of their Refurb machines aren't actually infact new machines but left over inventory from where they've just replaced a model with a newer version.

If storage is not a problem and you can live with 128GB then keep an eye out for that model. Got mine for £657.58. Same spec (i5 6200u, 8gb ram) just a smaller hard drive.

You're paying for the premium XPS build and the infinity edge display, smaller profile and lighter. More for people who move about a lot.

3 to 4 is pretty poor for any 9350 xps 13 unless your gaming for 3 hours. I wouldn't be that happy.

We ask members to remain patient during this time, if we do receive an update or we require your intervention we will get in contact with you via this system.
Kind Regards
The Missing CashBack Claims Team
Battery test was 53,481/57,532 which seems OK.
Will be even happier if the cashback gets paid.
Thanks for the post OP.
They send a courier around to collect it from your address and then it takes around 3-5 days to receive a refund.
It's crazy how these sort of issues are not fixed asap... There have been reports of the buzzing noise since the release of the XPS 13 but there is still no fix.
Could you tell me more about the difference between the two? Is it worth the price difference all things considered, battery life, hassle of exchanging etc.
The screen is the most important and impressive part of this laptop so hence why I'm being a mitch and so indecisiveness atm.
I can't comment on the 1080p version as that would be a downgrade for me and a pointless purchase.
When you open the report you can then compare the 'design capacity' of the battery with the 'full charge capacity' of your own laptop. The lower the number of the 'full charge capacity' compared to the design capacity, the worse the battery is
DESIGN CAPACITY 57,532 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 53,322 mWh
CYCLE COUNT -
How exactly can u determine the battery is good? Any signs that it is not new?
I'm used to a 13" macbook pro and it's crazy how small the dell looks when you see it for the first time
More stock on dell outlet now. 1x £638 and 4x £658 plus vat at time of posting.
Order Change and Returns
2mm - from what I read these could be new units from a cancelled order or at worst <1% damage units. You have 14 days to inspect...
Hoping to get TCB and then we have have a great bargain.
13 is the sweet spot mate, that is why all manufacturers make one, give it go mate...
I've just ordered the 3200x1800 XPS 13 to replace it and I fully intend to use it at 100% also. I'll take all the resolution I can get and I want to make use of every pixel.
It's actually quite a common complaint made by people but I'm sure things will get better

Dell i5-6200U - Intel® HD Graphics 520 (GT2) 24 Execution Units (EUs)
Mac Core i5-5257U - Intel Iris Graphics 6100 (GT3) with 48 EUs. Twice more power than dell X 2 times more FPS in games
If you want to game you can find immeasurably better laptops than either of these. (FYI Apple never built a gaming machine)
These are mainly intended for portability and possibly some casual gaming and in that respect I would take an xps 13 over Mac pro any day.
I currently use it on it's own, or connected to a 40" 4k, but also have used 24-28" FHD. All worked fine with relative scaling.
Remote desktop the only one I've really had a big issue with - it does scale in Windows 10, but that doesn't seem to work to Server 2012.
The Initial shipping date said I would receive on or before 15th May, now updated to shipped so will hopefully see it sooner.
Is that the price before or after VAT? (or were you seeing £613.40 + VAT)
cheapest I'm seeing now is £728.96 + VAT (ie £874.75 before coupon)
Been looking to get one of these XPS 13" models - think I may have missed out on OP's deal now
Next best was the same with win 10 pro for £20 more. Were 4 this morning. All gone now too.
Keep watching the outlet store.
Cheers

Can you tell me what the title is of the item? I'm doing a search on xps 13, and im getting 3 options....
XPS 13 (l321x) MLK Ultrabook Laptop
XPS 13 (9343) Laptop with InfinityEdge display
XPS 13 (9333) UltrabookT
...but they seem to be 3rd 4th and 5th gen procs only.
Thanks for quick response. Much appreciated
