Please note this is the PRO version with the Snapdragon 650 processor (antutu hovering around 80,000!) and huge 4050mAh battery. Cheapest I've seen this for a while/ever? Incredible spec for the money asked. It's the Dark Grey one that's this price. Price includes free shipping from China (so patience is needed!).

EDIT: 7% CASHBACK THROUGH QUIDCO. Could make the net price approx 120 pounds.

One of the first phones to use the superb new Snapdragon 650 processor (the soon to released Sony Xperia X will also have it - and cost in the region of 450 quid!)

http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/01/15/snapdragon-650-vs-helio-x10-vs-snapdragon-808-antutu-scores-compared/

Caveats:

1. Possibility of being charged import duty ( I never have in quite a few orders but there's always the possibility!)

2. Also no effective warranty as it needs to be returned to China for repair.

What gsmarena think of the phone:

Verdict
The Snapdragon variant of the Redmi Note 3 is being launched at a price point at USD $148 (INR 9,999) for the 16GB model and $178 (INR 11,999) for the 32GB model, in India.

At that price, the phone represents phenomenal value for money. Even if you leave the price aside for a second, the Redmi Note 3 has a combination of a great design and build quality, good display, great performance, fingerprint sensor, and excellent battery life. Add to that the incredible pricing, and it makes it easier to ignore some of the shortcomings, such as the less than stellar camera, outdated version of Android, and the lack of proper fast charging, none of which are deal breakers to begin with. At this price, it is easily the best phone in its price range.

I've added the caveat to the OP (plus my personal experiences). Plus a further caveat regarding warranty. But compare this to the spec of the Moto G 3RD Gen that went HOT today at 144 quid and, imo, it's worth the risk! This simply blows the Moto G clean out of the water! They simply aren't in the same league. But should you not get customs charges this is even cheaper than the Moto G 2GB RAM/16GB ROM.

Download a spy warehouse scanner from the app store as a minimum. I advocate flashing a rom yourself to be 100% sure. But that does take time and effort.

Not used cm on this device but the miui rom is fine enough

hi, there is a mode on the redmi note 3 pro called edl mode, once you enter that mode you will need to download the fastboot rom and the mi flash tool, then connect your phone to the pc, while connected to edl mode, and flash the rom using the mi flash tool.

So initial thoughts. Obviously blows Moto G2 out of the water but is markedly faster than Moto X. This may be down to the very efficient MIUI interface. It is very KitKatty insofar as the settings bar but very quick.

So ... I'd placed an order with Goldway in 12 April. A few days later they WhatsApp me -!- to tell me they have no stock. I'm unaware I had to 'extend' order so they cancelled it and said I'd be refunded in 7-10 days. They haven't. And now they're not playing ball.

The rom on mine from Goldway actually had google play on it which was great but then i remembered people saying there was malware and spyware on vendor roms so thats why i put the global rom on.

i used the guide below to flash
http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

The download file was a tgz file and tried to flash it but didnt realise you have to decompress/unzip it further to get the files shown in the tutorial.
Then i pressed flash but didnt tick the "flash all" box in bottom left of miflash tool as it said i should and it flashed for about 32 seconds and then i got a "storage" error.
I then flashed agin and thats when i got"catastrophic error" and it bricked.
Anyway the unbrick tutorial worked fine for me

Best wishes with yours !

Hi i ordered May 10th 4.32pm. Seemed to take about 3 days before shipping so was expecting to wait 3 weeks minimum, so pleasantly surprised.

Ending up bricking phone trying to put global rom on it but thankfully the unbrick tutorial on the mi forums worked  !

Put Nova launcher on but still found it more dificult than any other phone ive had to setup.
For example in "manage apps" the apps icons are there but no names next to them so not sure if thats novas fault or the phone ?
Be aware if you put global rom 7.3.2.0 on there are serious wifi issues on 5g for many.

People aren't always correct. I remember reading something (admittedly some time ago) about Apple working digital sims. So perhaps I'm out of date, perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick.

Either way I'm not too fussed. Don't think my comment did any harm either way. Perhaps next time I comment and I'm not 100% I'll add a 'I think' so people know to investigate further themselves.

I'm not sure if you are deluded or just an extreme Apple fan? But this isn't new, it's called CDMA and has been used in the US for a long time. It's a horrible system and basically means phones can never really ever be moved to another network, it's a way to trap you and rip you off so has been shunned by most the world. Bought a new or second hand phone on the same network? The network can refuse to whitelist it so it won't even connect to them, horrible. It's slowly dying because 4G LTE uses sims.

Actually I have a 7inch phablet that I use for maps which I don't use with a SIM just the off line GPS, the only small disadvantage is that every so often I have to do manual downloads via my WiFi, but it would be simpler for me If it was all in one as in all honesty size of screen is not that important mostly the voice instructions with the screen for difficult junctions and roundabout exits, as some times the number of exits to follow can be different to the actual, especially here in Spain.

Apple are working on a digital sim, so no slot needed. Once they do it everyone else will follow.

There are certain phones you can hack to get 2 sims and an sd in. Honor 7 might be one... Think it involves sanding down an sd card mind.

One thing I'd suggest is if you're a heavy maps user, get yourself a cheap ee rook or a doogee. You could use it purely for maps. Pop in a three sim for 200mb each month free and then keep it in the car. That would save a lot of space in your main phone
soldierboy001
12 May 16 #611
Yes that is a fact if like me you only need that amount of ROM at the moment but it is a restriction if I changed my way of using the phone in the future. When I first had a mobile phone it was for work reasons and I only needed to receive calls so I had cheap PAYG phone but as services improved and expanded I have gone along with some of these improvements, so one day I may require more ROM, Especially as I use Free SatNav Apps, so what do I do next ? drop a SIM or get a different phone, which may be difficult as a lot of phones seem to be going this route. Perhaps some MicroSD card manufacturer will come up with a dual card and method of transferring your sim details to it.
I know you can do a conversion of your SIM to an SD card but is to difficult for me and several thousand others.

Specs look fine but the phone is a monster, like carrying a tablet at 6.44. I still would prefer a 5" to 5.5" personally. I am still looking at the mi5 but as stated earlier the redmi 3 pro looks to do its job at a fast pace & looks a great phone and will be more than fast enough for my needs I reckon with nice battery life. I think surely the mi5 is a different animal with a Sony lens and maybe that is worth a bit of extra cash but once you go up to the £200+ mark its another price level with other competition too. I am tempted on this one as if the xiaomi store has it back in stock it is listed at 2599HKD which is about £229. I have read it can be sourced around HK for around the 2400 mark but for the sake of £10-20 difference it is better from the official outlet I would have thought. It seems the screen is 5.15 as opposed to 5.5 which I also prefer, hmmm decisions decisions? How to Clear a Previous Google Account From an Android Phone Without a Reset
by Mandy Slake, Demand Media
When you first set up your Android device, it prompts you to add a Google Gmail account to the phone. This becomes the primary Google account. Normally the Android does not allow you to change the primary account without deleting everything on the device. If you have changed your Gmail address, you can clear the old account without resetting by clearing the data and cache in the Google Apps application

Step 1
Press the "Menu" key on the main screen of your Android device.

Step 2
Tap "Settings" and select "Applications."

Step 3
Touch "Manage applications" and select the "All" tab.

Step 4
Touch "Google Apps" and click "Clear data."

Step 5
Click "OK" on the confirmation screen. Repeat for "Clear cache."

Step 6

i thought it was a different one you found dont know if they deliver to uk was looking at mi5 myself the 64gb model because i dont think you can add sd card these are currently the top phones on antutu benchmark scoring about 140000 the samsung galaxy s7 edge is second with a score of 134500 the remi note 3 pro prime ( my current phone )scores 78000 which was 9 wks ago the 5th fastest on antutu with huawei mate 8 top with 91200 so you can see what a big jump in power the mi5 is and samsung s7 this is mainly due to the knew snapdragon 820 cpu they launched the mi5 3 days after i bought mine

Hi, thanks for the info. It seems they do currently have it in stock on the HK website  i was also considering the mi5 which looks a great super powerful phone but it's about £229 after conversion. So a big difference from the red rice note 3 pro. I hope the camera is nice on these, my last two phones have had lower quality cameras on.

Problem with that item if you plug in more than one item it shares the 2.1 amp thus slowing down the charge rate, so put in 4 phones to charge they will only get 0.5 amps each quadrupling the charge time.

Yeah but I just remembered something. The store in HK is late in stocking the phones. I mean when the Redmi Note 2 was officially released in China it wasn't in the store until much later. So you need to check if they have it yet.

1 May 16 #548
Sounds good, thank you for the information:D I will tell them to go to the official store. So they will set it up for use in English instore then? Menu language & Google store etc. I was going to buy from gearbest who I used for some xiaomi hybrid headphones which are nice but this sounds safer certainly regarding tax & a great price for the phone too. Hopefully stocks are good still for the 3gb version. Is there a specific screen protector for this too. I read something about a tempered glass one?

If I had a friend going, that's what I would do. If you get your friend to go to the Official Xiaomi Store in Mongkok, you won't have problems with bloatware or anything like that. Mine came with Google Apps pre-installed and I asked them for English when they set the phone up for me. Afterwards, I couldn't tell it was from HK. The prices are fixed in that shop. Labels on each model.

I've had a couple of the previous version, Redmi Note 2. Purchased in Hong Kong. The first one was an import from across the border and the ROM was Chinese. I had to install Google Play Store on it. It was chock full of bloatware and some of the apps would crash the 'phone if I uninstalled them.

I purchased another from the Official Xiaomi Store in Mongkok, which was already installed with the International ROM, it was in English with Google Play Store already loaded.

For the price, I think very hard to beat for value. I was really happy with the second 'phone.

This one having the Snapdragon 650 and I will be buying one on my next trip there.

If you don't get hit by import tax, for me, this is a no brainer.
Wildcard to M1sterDeeds
1 May 16 #541
Would it be easier to purchase it from Hong Kong, the reason I ask is my friend is out there visiting family & can pick me one up. I guess it would avoid possible tax charges. Are the xiaomi range generally set @ a fixed Price, I see you mention thay some sellers add bloatware/spyware etc so it needs a fresh install maybe too?

Any charger should work, as long as the cable has a micro usb end. As for the charger that comes with it, it works ok with the adapter here. It's specs as i recall are 5v 2000mA. But as I said there shouldn't be any problem with any usb charger and a usb to micro-usb lead, just lower spec chargers will take longer to charge.

28 Apr 16 #509
Hey,so here is my sim plan. I think this is best for people who want much more roaming data than texts and calls , and it makes use of the dual sim + SD card. Feel free to give suggestions and use same layout!

Sim 1:
This is for calls and texts. It will have a 3PAYG 123. With 2p per text and 3p per minute call (1p a mb). I will attach this sim to a 64gb SD card. As it is less valuable than the other sim and can be ordered for free. Here is how to use dual sim and SD! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P27ASWMv9g
http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Pay_As_You_Go_Price_Plans

Sim 2: This will be for data . 12GB over 12 months for £27.99 , that’s £2.33 a GB per month . or 0.233p a mb.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Three-3-Network-4G-3G-SIM-Ready-to-go-Mobile-Broadband-12GB-Preloaded-Data-SIM-/262403729414?hash=item3d187b2806:g:3gwAAOSwKfVXHPmg

I will probably only spend £15 MAX on calls and texts a year for the first sim a YEAR .
So that’s the total equivalent of £3.58 a month for 1GB and 20 texts and 27 mins calls . (i normally whatsapp and internet call anyways so IDC about those low numbers, Can always top up of more is needed. Also the data is cumulative, so no pressure to use up all the 1gb per month and also you can use up future data!

I think it depends on if your phone has some malware installed. You should be able to download the rom to root of phone and use Xiamoi updater app on the phone. If malware installed it stops this for working.

Redmi Note 3 pro 4050mAh battery? From dead in less than 2hrs isn't possible, plenty of tests have been done and shows it charges from dead to 100% in about 2hrs 45mins+ (I'm guessing you estimated your timing incorrectly)

What software did you run run? What malware? What seller? Would be good to provide some detailed info / proof. Not saying it's not true but be good to get more info on what exactly you're saying the malware is. Many free 'Malware Scanners' show fake results in order to get you to purchase upgrades etc.

This seller has sold a huge number of these and if there was malware on them it would be all over the comments / feedback.

Message received in response to requesting the box remain sealed...

Hi friend, that all the phone in stock now is default opened and install with a customized firmware. You can change to any other firmware when you receive it.
Because official firmware has no multi language and google play . so the OTA function is disabled
If you need official rom, please follow this link: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
We aim to dispatch the parcel fast. so everything as default. Any special request will delay the dispatch .
Please noted.
Thanks

As much as I liked MIUI vanilla Android is still my preference.

First thing I did with my Note 2 was to install CM 12.1 and if it wasn't because of the locked Bootloader on the Note 3 I would've done the same thing.

Anyhow, after switching to the latest Global Dev ROM I was able to unlock the Bootloader  Gotta try out the CM13 port for Note 3, it might not be perfect right now but given how the Note 2 is still stuck with Android 5.0.2 we might never see Marshmallow on the Note 3.

Not sure why you would need to update from the stock rom with this. Battery life is amazing, you can install nova launcher to make it look/feel like normal android and the banking apps all work as you haven't rooted. Would only root if i could get a reasonable performance increase, and probably in a couple years time.

As stated earlier, if you are looking for a case for rhis phone you might like to consider the MOFI flip range which if you search can be had for way less than a fiver on AliExpress. The great thing about these cases is they contain a thin metal 'insert' to protect the screen. I have one for my Meizu MX4 Pro and they are well worth the money. Also consider a tempered glass protector (less than a quid if you shop around!) as Xiaomi don't stipulate this has scratch proof glass. For a fiver combined your phone should be ready to take on the usual knocks etc without breaking...

I have just bought this phone but have realised that giffgaff 4G isn't compatible with it. How would buying another data only sim work? Would I be able to have the data being used on the one sim, whilst I take calls and texts on the other? Also would DHL delivery increase the risk of being charged import fees?

I paid round £170 for the Xiaomi NOTE 3 PRO PRIME 3GB 32GB. It has to be all of those to be the best phone with snapdragon and antutu score of 80k.

Xiaomi Note 3 Pro is the new 16gb (2gb ram) model.
Xiaomi 3 PRO PRIME (NOTE missing) is the 5 inch model with different processor and lower antutu score (round 40-50k)
XIaomi Note 3 Prime (PRO missing) is the earlier 32gb model with a different processor (Mediatek) and lower antutu score. Basically old stock.
XIaomi Note 3 (Prime and Pro missing) is the earlier 16gb model

You need PRO and PRIME and NOTE in the title, and the specification to state 3gb ram and 32gb rom, mentioning snapdragon would be good too.

says its PRO, PRIME, NOTE so you would think snapdragon 3gb ram and 32gb rom but the listing says 2gb ram and 16gb rom. If it was the PRO PRIME NOTE 3gb/32gb then you would be getting a good price.

Btw I have mine here now and its great. I bought from the 'no customs guaranteed' listing.

I think these are dual standby. So if you receive a call on one number the other would be engaged if someone tried to ring you.

The operating system on these are a nightmare, it is their own version of android. I got the non pro version from a UK seller. When I switched to phone on it said there was a system update available, so I let it update before trying it out. It came with loads of Chinese APS and I couldn't log into my Google account, then i read another sellers ad which said not to do the update. Then I reset the phone, to see the play store disappeared. Way too much hassle so I am going to return it. The phone looks nice (great build quality) and the specs are awesome for this price, but why can't they do a clean version of android?

Funny that I just got home and my phone has just got the update aswell! I have had two updates about 2 weeks? Hows that for support? I still got my old nexus 4 and updates on that were few and far between when it was supported, compared to this! I dont know any other phone that updates as regularly as this one!
All I can say is, Im extremely impressed with this phone! The feel and finish on this phone is anything but cheap. It looks and feels like a premium phone. Finger print sensor works a treat too. i thought it being a china phone this would be more of a gimmick but believe me it just works, pretty much everytime too! I had china phones before but the quality was always a bit lacking, the quality of xiaomi stuff is top notch tho. I got a power bank from xiaomi and based on that I purchased this phone! I know that was a big risk and with a bit of you tube reviews to help me click the buy button, I like to think it was more of a calculated risk in my favour!? That is the kind of confidence the brand gave me anyway.
If you want something different and you are a bit of a risk taker, then take the gamble and be rewarded big time for your money. This is not for the boys who squabble about warranties, whether or not it will be in english or chinese, branding and want it all for as little as possible but dont want to take no risks.
This is grey importing, just like import cars back in the days, you will be laughed at, but you heard about that nissan skyline gtr, you read the reviews in some dodgy tuners mag, you even watched Jeremy Clarkson drive one, but nobodys heard of it, none of your friends have one and how can a nissan beat a high end sports cars from top european makers we all heard of, and finally for half the price? Not worth the risk and ridiculous right???
Im confident that anyone who knows what to expect with this phone and has taken the gamble to get one, will love it.

According to Kimovil (usually pretty accurate) the cheapest place to get the 3gb/32gb version is again AliExpress/HongKong Goldway at 158 pounds with the 7% Quidco so approx 147 quid net if the Quidco payout comes through. Once again an incredible price for the spec you are getting (about the same as the Moto G 2gb/16gb posted on here a couple of days ago should yopu not get the customs charge). The difference in the specs of the 2 phones is literally ridiculous.

worth mentioning this PRO version comes with microsd expansion and a better (higher resolution better low light focusing) camera module that the vanilla Helios x10 powered note3

the huge downside of Chinese android phones that it's buyers don't seem concerned with are the lack of security updates and the likelihood that it comes riddles with malware. Android is a huge target for malware nowadays.

It's a shame really as it's a killer spec phone for the money with a good passable screen and a reasonable camera

I've spent £100's on Ali Express. All very very good. About one in ten sellers is a wind up - basically if they are slow to post out - so more than seven days, cancel the order. Those who take ages to send out, take ages to deliver. It seems to me they use a courier that goes via Amsterdam, or Scandanavia. China Post is brilliant. I have most of my orders within 2 weeks.
Ali Express have a full money back gaurantee and dispute process (just like ebay) and you pay via Alipay (just like paypal) so no card details go to the actual seller. I am over the moon at finding Ali Express. I have used Gearbest and they were OK, Fasttech used only once and that's becuase they took ages to send out.
One thing I would say is that I have only bought led lights and bulbs and an android TV device in terms of things of electrical components, all were fine. I will get a new phone from them once my current one dies!

I want to chime in here and say that i have probably owned over 50 smartphones within the last 2 to 3 years, yes im a phone addict but my point is that none have broken down, even outside the warranty period, and this is with me rooting, unlocking bootloaders, installing custom roms etc, even doing lite hardware mods that involved water left no damage, a few were second hand and still nothing happened.

the only phone i broke was a motorola dext, it was the dark ages of smartphone modding and i didn't know what i was doing, im pretty sure i sold it here

I'm not saying phones wont break but to expend so much time arguing about warranties for a £120 phone...its just not necessary.

Also i have this phone, paid 90 quid more because im impatient and wanted the 3GB RAM version, it had nothing to do with wanting UK warranty, i know i wont need it, never claimed a warranty on any smartphone ever.

just relax guys, modern phones have come a long way, most will last at least 12 months even if used poorly, my mom can attest to that

Laughable aftersales support (or is there any support at all?) and you will be praying for manufacturer to release any security or OS updates. Don't be fooled to get something because it's 10 quid with a 10million core CPU, 10000mah battery and 8K screen. Not at all....I don't expect things to go wrong, and if I buy second hand I take that chance, I don't particularly like buying products of considerable cost as a 'gamble' though.

I have only had my LG Optimus 4X (self repair) phone power button go faulty..spongey, replaced myself. My wife had an HTC One X need warranty servicing as it totally locked up though.

But yes, usually if you buy goods second hand they have been 'burned in' the majority of any electronic goods problems are within the first 6 months, some of them defunct or having issues from the moment they are powered on.

Personally I would not appreciate waiting up to 45 days for goods from aliexpress to show up, switch it on and find it faulty or stuck/dead pixels on screen etc....have to pay to ship it back and get a replacement within its 60 day 'warranty'.

You on the other hand may think the gamble of import duty and having a lemon or a fantastic phone for little outlay worth it.

I ignored your questions earlier...and you know very well why...because you sodding evaded my own questions with more questions....as you were.....

I think the reason Xiaomi haven't set up shop in the US/UK yet is patents.
At the moment they only sell in China/India where they are immune from such laws.
But once they start selling here it would be open season for Apple,Samsung,HTC unless they pay for patents.

To be fair it's not like Apple, Samsung and HTC haven't all faced court action for alleged infringements etc. My feeling is they are so successful in their home market that they need to roll out slowly so as to keep the ability to actually have enough supplies to satisfy demand. But you don't get Hugo Barras on board if you don't have serious expansion plans. Laugh all you want but I genuinely see Xiaomi becoming the most successful mobile manufacturer in the World within the next 5-10 years (yes, surpassing Apple!) and that can only be a good thing. Giving the consumer great products at great prices (only one of these claims is true about Apple imo)

I did say officially supplies earlier, and that was after only a quick scan of the site before posting on here (that was not being fooled).....however both aliexpress and ibuygou are resellers..if buying from a grey market of considerable cost (something I have not done before) then personally I would sooner buy within the EU, not face the gamble of import duty and have a warranty, with 24 hour DHL delivery.....no brainer.
bellboys
10 Apr 16 1 #208
Given the fact they fooled you into believing that they are official Xiaomi resellers plus the claim to have 13,000 stock of a mobile that is in such short supply all over the world, plus the experiences I have from buying through AliXpress over the last 6 months, then the answer is a resounding yes. I'm intrigued how this seller claims to have 13,000 of these phones, seeing as how they sold out so quickly in India on 6 April.

Admittedly Trustpilot and the website reviews seem very good, but I'm personally inclined to go with a Chinese retailer which sells in it's own right and has Paypal as a payment option.

This site offers good comparisons

It is £15 extra (and no gamble of import duty) from ibuygou, and a warranty from a third party.

As a user in the thread I linked to says "It is easy to sell something, but only good seller will supply proper after sale service." And that is what most of joe public want...admittedly with a lot of goods in comparison of cost we do pay a lot extra inherently in the costs of the goods...it's not a matter of not understanding your 'simple theory' you are not looking at the angle of what people generally want when they buy goods.

And that is the risk you take in buying these...especially direct from a chinese warehouse like aliexpress with no warranty, you accept that, please do not expect everyone to.
bellboys
10 Apr 16 1 #200
But how much is a warranty worth? If the 12 month warranty effectively costs as much as the phone (which in this instance it probably would given the price that a spec like this would cost from a UK supplied mainstream brand) then is it REALLY worth it given the %tage of mobiles that actually go wrong in the first 12 months? Unless 100% of them go wrong then statistically it isn't worth paying twice as much for that phone just to get that 12 month warranty. I'm really struggling to see how people don't get this simple theory.

PS I really do hope Xiaomi get their arris in gear and launch here sooner rather than later. This thread would have been a whole lot shorter/less frustrating if they were already here

Xiaomi are missing a trick not pushing these phones out to US/EU themselves, and I do entirely see cicobuff's point about 'official' warranties.

However, we have to remember what we're dealing with here - a £120 phone with the specs of one which would go for £250-300.

I think most people who import phones from China el cheapo accept there is an inherent risk that the thing could stuff up within a week of arrival.

I bought a JiaYu S3 last year for the same price as this phone, and the microphone was kaput on arrival. Rather than bleat on about being ripped off, I sourced a replacement mic board from China, which arrived in 2 weeks, and fitted it myself - no soldering skills necessary (thank goodness).

The phone has active support in the XDA community (as does this phone) and thus whilst there is no official support from the company themselves (who later nearly went out of business !), there are enough people interested in the phone to develop the software themselves.

And to me that sums up buying a cheap, but highly specced phone, from China - for sure, it's a gamble, but do your research (usually on XDA) and see what sort of community support exists - if it looks like it's going to be a winner (as the JiaYu S3 was when it came out) then stick with it.

But, I accept, the 'average Joe Schmoe' wouldn't go to these lengths.

So, I agree for these folks, the lack of a UK warranty should be a concern - I don't think cicobuff is being unreasonable in saying this.

Anyway, for those who love to tinker, this is a cracking deal, but I'm looking at the 3GB versions - having being spoiled rotten by the JiaYu S3 Advanced, I don't think I would settle for less.

It may only be £130 but not all of us feel that money is loose change for a Saturday night out to blow away.

So I will ask again, where exactly and I am presuming it is somewhere in Europe do Xiaomi with their European servicing do repair?

Possibly because I'm not actually posting a mobile phone deal on here.....if I were it would be on a thread I started....
I am not suggesting this isn't a good deal either....all I have pointed out is that there may be extra charges on import...

In my case with the seller from whom I purchased.....the original phone I bought (not a well known Chinese brand but with very high specs & benchmarks) originally came with an English interface, however on first OTA update it installed the latest Chinese firmware.....the seller immediately refunded before even having received back the original phone & in fact the new phone I ordered arrived before the original actually tracked as delivered to the seller.

If I thought my current phone was an outstanding deal I would have posted it here....but I consider it was simply a good price for a very nice phone......I have now purchased from that seller on 3 occasions & would love to say how well warranty claims have been handled.....but I've never had need to use any warranty

Defensive ? no, Its a mobile phone bought from a Chinese retailer at a seriously cheap price for the spec, you get a 12 months warranty from Xiaomi and you can return the device to the seller or the manufacturer, take your pick. If you bought a similar branded phone from a UK supplier you would do exactly the same or take time out of your day to return the phone to the shop and then wait for it to be repaired, personally i dont see the issue as you make the initial choice yourself upon purchase, if you dont want to return a phone overseas then dont buy one from overseas, it is that simple.
If you want to debate infrastructure then maybe stick to paying a premium for branded average phones, Samsung and Sony are a joke regarding software updates for example, my previous Iocean X7 was on KitKat and running smoothly before most other manufacturers had released their update ( thats IF they released an update)

So again no defensive posture here, if you require some UK based infrastructure then there are options, if you dont mind returning devices maybe spread your gaze further afield.

If you want a personal slant, ive had Iocean, Xiaomi, THL, Doogee, Samsung, Sony, Microsoft/Nokia and Apple smartphones and will not be going back to paying a ridiculous price for a branded main phone, for the x hundred pounds for a new branded phone i can buy a high quality good specc'd Chinese import........and then buy another next year and one the next for the same cost. Personally i think we've been ripped off for long enough.
cicobuff to scousethief
10 Apr 16 #145
I will ask this simple question again, I never even went into banging on about other manufacturers so why the hell you are getting all defensive over that now I do not know.

So let us try again....I cannot find WHERE Xiaomi do warranties, or for that matter the LENGTH of warranty with the manufacturer.

If this phone was returned to China in their pitiful 60 days of return no doubt with such [bad reviews] that aliexpress get you would be fighting for a refund.

If instead you decide to take it up with Xiaomi, where exactly would you have to send your phone off to for repair?

I am amazed how such simple questions are inciting such bile!
Sogaaddict to scousethief

Most warranties are merely marketing tools, goods brought from outside of the UK are not covered by the Sales of Goods Act, which I can assure you is a very useful protection, imagine the cost of sending and resending goods back and forth to the Far East, by registered mail. The alternative being to write the item off.

what is the build quality of the handset like on these chinese models?
i have a chuwi tablet, and it is light, but feels weak, a slight tap might crack the case the screen. I recently was sorting through a drawer and fund a old motorola xoom and the build of that feels lovely, its solid and feels like it can take a few whacks. i would go back to this right now if the screen quality was as good as the chuwi... are the chinese phones cheaper because they are not as solid?

HEAT!

Had the 3gb / 32gb version of this for a while last year, amazing bit of tech for the price
and was a great all round giant phone ;-)

The only slight negative is the thickness or the way the phone looks a bit thicker that it
needed to be.. think it is just where the ali was machined and they decided to put an
edge on it that is curvy!

At this price [which is wayyyyyyy more than paid for one!] this has to be the best sub £200
new phone on the market, which is fully loaded and will last an age as it is super fast and
also the dual sim is a big bonus for personal & business use on the same handset..

Stuff Marshmallow 6 on it and will be even better!

If Xiaomi are anything like Oneplus they wont entertain warranty from a 3rd party seller (Aliexpress).
For £120 i would take a chance that nothing went wrong with the phone. If something did go wrong i would rather sell it for spares and repairs on Ebay rather than ship it off into the unknowns of China.
I imagine its up to the buyer to pay for shipping both ways too so basically forget about warranty.

And strangely between both you and scousethief who got all tardy over further questioning on warranty as he had sent something back there is conflicting info.

Xiaomi state they have EU service, I simply asked where it was.....you are telling me it has to be sent back to China.

Try reading my earlier comments properly and answer.....

And now let us try again....are you now telling me that despite their sales Xiaomi do not offer a warranty with their products? As looking at Aliexpress reviews I would not trust returning a faulty device to them for sure.
bellboys
10 Apr 16 1 #152
What sort of answer is that?? :man:

Xiaomi DO offer a warranty but it's return to China so I'm suggesting it isn't as good as a UK warranty. But is the UK warranty worth 80 quid? Answers on a postcard, please...
cicobuff
10 Apr 16 #151
I am not asking that question (for it to be answered)...but if that is the case are you therefore telling me that Xiaomi do not offer a warranty despite their website actually saying they do?

And as far as Aliexpress are concerned I would not trust them as a supplier in the first instance anyway.

Nice attempt at politician evasive tactics however.
bellboys
10 Apr 16 1 #150
OK, one last try. I think we are all agreed this has an amazing spec for the asking price and would be much dearer if it was a UK sourced and supplied mobile. Correct so far? OK, personally I'm sure it would be more but let's say this phone would be 200 pounds uk supplied from a mainstream brand WITH A UK WARRANTY. Agreed? Now, let's pretend that UK law didn't obligate UK companies to offer any warranty on their mobiles. But this phone supplier gave you 2 options:

1. Buy the phone warranty-less for 120 quid

2. buy it with a 12 months warranty for 200 pounds

Which option would you choose?

Oh, that old chestnut, considering you said you had dealt with them yourself I though perhaps you would extend the courtesy of saying instead of jumping down both mine and another person on here's throat for even attempting to criticise the infrastructure and concern in buying such a product....but no you choose to be a keyboard warrior.

So, let me try again for about the fourth time...according to the EU vague listings, it still has no info of where warranty repairs take place within the EU.

bellboys
10 Apr 16 2 #139
You're not making sense here. An insurance policy takes the gamble/worry out of a potential situation arising in a pre-determined time period. As does a warranty. They are essentially one and the same and I'm sure you know that. Don't you think the manufacturer of the UK supplied phone has added something to the price to pay for the warranty? Of course they have, That's essentially their insurance policy against you having to make a claim. Like i say, hardly rocket science when you REALLY analyse it...

Their aftersales service is through them, you return their phone to them and it comes back repaired, as i have their mobile devices as well as a very nice router which performs better than my previous netgear and virgins hub and have returned one of their devices after my daughter damaged it and had it returned in brand new condition i dont need to trawl the web because i know what to do and accepted that upon the point of sale. 10 Apr 16 #137

Sentral
10 Apr 16 #134
Why?
bellboys
10 Apr 16 4 #133
It's not rocket science and has been discussed a lot throughout the thread. It all comes down to how risk averse you are - you are effectively paying way less for this than a similarly specced UK supplied mainstream brand phone. The warranty is essentially an insurance policy against the phone deveoping a fault. The question is how much is this insurance worth in monetary terms? On a 120 quid phone? I personally wouldn't pay more than 10 quid for 12 months cover. Which is why I am more than happy to pay way less from China than I would for a similar spec phone here. Come on, this phone is cheaper than the Moto G which went hot on here yesterday and the difference in spec is extraordinary. It's a sure sign how much we get ripped off in the UK that the Moto G with a pretty average spec went up to circa 500 degrees on here at 144 quid!

PS How many phones have you owned that needed a warranty repair? I have had countless mobiles over the years and never had one break down during its warranty period.

You faill to understand there is major difference between a phone "designed" and "engineered" by a reputable well known company with advanced technology like Apple,Sony,Samsung etc which is then manufactured in a chinese factory under their supervision VS a phone being designed and engineered as well as being manufactured in China.
I'm not bashing Xiaomi at all, heard good things about them but your general comment is absolutely false information.
If you were right, there would be zero difference between awful quality off brand chinese phones and likes of Apple,Samsung,Sony,LG...but in reality there is HUGE difference.
Just because 2 devices are made in China doesn't mean they are equal or even comparable.what matters is the technology and engineering behind it,not which part of the world it was put together.it's not a pair os scissors or shovel we are talking about it's a complicated electronic device.

I had the Mi5 on preorder. I was waiting on its release for many months and was disappointed about a few things. First off, there was a comparison on YouTube between the Mi5 and S7 camera and video. The S7 absolutely destroyed the Mi5 in every photo and every video. The so called 4 axis OIS is terrible as well compared to the S7. I'm also a bit concerned about the build quality which is something Xiaomi are traditionally very good at so that was a bit of a surprise.

You may be thinking the same thing. The S7 is twice the price but performance of the camera in particular is many more times that. I had ordered the Mi5 128GB pro version which at the time was £386. The S7 can be had for less than £450 so it's only about 12% more.

To answer your question, I would obviously get the Note 3 Pro

Incidentally, I bought the Note 3 Pro as a birthday gift for the wife.

Believe it or not, I actually get what you're saying here, but Chinese phones have moved way beyond this now. You're still thinking they're the same as they were 3+ years ago. They use much, much better hardware now instead of the old MediaTek, Allwinner and Rockchip processors which were absolutely terrible.

Nowadays you'll see quite a few phones using Snapdragon, Exynos, Intel and even the MediaTek Helio processors and even the new Helio MedaTek processors. They make a huge difference to the phone performance.

Moving back to the Xiaomi, they release weekly ROM updates for all their phones which include bug fixes AND security updates. MIUI has plenty of security features already built in including anti virus.

By the way, the Redmi Note 3 Pro has far better build quality than any Nexus phone that has ever been released with the possible exception of the 6P which ironically, is also Chinese built (Hauwei).

That depends what value the seller puts on the box. They are very aware of import charges and usually do their best to accommodate this. I've ordered a number of phones and tablets from Aliexpress up to £300 and I've never paid anywhere near that. Most I paid I think was around £24.

I had a Xiaomi Mi2s at one stage and the charging port came loose. It cost me around £12 to ship back to China which took about a week. The seller then sent it on to Xiaomi who repaired it and they sent if back via DHL within 2 days. It was gone for around 2 weeks and came back fully repaired. I say this because a lot of people are worried about returns but if you get a decent seller then you should be ok.

I never paid any import tax on this because the seller marked it as 'repair' or something similar.

I did need to flash the rom, as despite asking, it came infested with Chinese ads, pop-ups, and other bullshittery. MiUi is alright, but buggier than I'd like, and still holds a good few useless Xiaomi apps. You can flush these out, but again, you need to root the phone or flash the rom.

So, if you're happy to root/flash roms, then I definitely reccomend the Redmi Note 2/3. Awesome bit of kit for your monies. Just don't go expecting a perfectly bug free experience on MiUi.

I think over the next few years there will be a massive shift to these high spec chinese phones when more consumers find out about them.
What's needed is for these chinese phones to be uk spec ready for the uk market, which include plug, software, instructions, ce safety tested and be shipped direct from the uk with good customer service (similar model to anker, made in china sold and fulfilled by respected third parties like amazon), then consumers will have no hesitation in buying these phones.
I would love to see a company like anker to produce their own phone (or even rebadge a xiaomi, ulefone etc) then I will be the first in line to buy one.

I found this link from another HDUK thread which looks like an easier way to flash phone. I haven't tried it myself but will when I get it.

There is very few to nothing in Chinese. The only Chinese text I see the odd time are from certain themes but most of them are in English. There are thousands of free ones and they're really good.

Yep, everything works perfectly. The fingerprint scanner works brilliantly. It also unlocks the phone and turns on the display which is very handy indeed.

I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 in December for appx £115 from Gearbest. Wasn't charged any import duty. It was a little bit tricky to install the MIUI7 weekly update ROM (the link is in a post above) but we'll worth the hassel. I'd advise the phone above at this price any day of the week. If you know someone who can help with the MIUI software, or someone who has done it before that would help. Gone are the days of spending £600 on a phone in my opinion.

If you like proper protection for your phone check out MOFI flip cases - they can be had for less than a fiver from China and feature a thin layer of metal under the PU leather to protect the screen. I have one for my MX4 Pro and it's well worth the money.

This phone comparable to UK phones would be retailing around £250 to £300, so a steal if you willing to take the risk. It has good performance scores, good battery life and the ROM is well supported unlike other OEMs.

Ordered mine from aliexpress (same vendor) but 32gb version. Will be flashing the global rom to make sure tho :P. Ordered a case from amazon and job done.

Ali express is reliable, they have a guarantee scheme pluse yr protected when using credit card.

Scree brightness is very good. Check out the YouTube reviews. I would recommend installing the global ROM which removals all Chinese bloat n give a great clean experience. FYI it also supports OTA update. My previous redmi note 2 had loads

This phone is great.

I've ordered from aliexoress many times and never been charged customs. I'm using the redmi note 3 pro now (3gb 32rom version) and have installed the global from from miui. The phone is great and super fast. It also work great with Google laucher. I got my phone from gear best and with discount and cash back works out as £145

I've got my case and screen protector from alip express for £0.82 all including delivery lol (H9 tempered glass too). I have a 128gb card in mine too. Antutu is about 79400 which is great. Battery is great too (2 days on average use)

I too have been looking for a Chinese phone, and at one point was looking to choose between the uleFone mentioned above and the Redmi. The reviews online are fantastic, its worth a punt for sure.

However, I have had my head turned by the Elephone p9000, just released. Spec is unbelievable, you should check the specs out.

But with many comments on buying from China / Hong Kong, I too am concerned about returning it if something happens to it.

I am now waiting for it to appear on Amazon from a UK seller and pay a bit extra in the knowledge that I can go back to them if it had any issues.

I've got a ulefone power arriving in a few days. Two days after ordering i saw a review on youtube by Chris the guy who runs techtablet.com. He knows more than a few things about chinese tech and has reviewed both phones. He firmly comes out in favour of the redmi note 3 pro. TBH they are both good phones and worth taking a bit of a gamble on regarding the more or less useless warranty. If you are risk averse then buy from a UK based retailer.

I have the 32GB version of this and it is very, very impressive. Mine came installed with the international version of MIUI 7 and it had virtually no bloatware installed. I imagine the standard Chinese ROM is the one that contains all the bloatware.

It is very straightforward to install the international ROM and you do not need to be rooted.

Disclaimer: Upgrading the ROM is your own risk. I accept no responsibility whatsoever for any mishaps!
Follow this guide to install the ROM: http://en.miui.com/a-232.html
Here is the latest international ROM for the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon 650 version: http://en.miui.com/download-301.html

I doubt there is a phone anywhere in the world at this cost with this specification. The SD 650 is actually faster than the 2015 SD 810 which is incredible value.

I've got the higher spec version of this and it's brilliant. It took a long time to arrive but I didn't pay any customs charges. Just be prepared to read up on flashing the global firmware. It's really not that difficult with the tools provided. I wouldn't swap this for my wife's S6 edge.

That is very true. But there's more to a smartphone than the components. How well is it built, the QC, the software, aftercare/warranty.
mastin
10 Apr 16 #10
It's a decent price but when you add on customs charges & the fact that getting it fixed under warranty provides even more expense. Then it's honestly not worth importing phones from China. Most of these phones are also set for Asia 4G networks, which will not work in the UK as we have a different frequency etc, etc.

For what you pay for this + customs & handling fees, you could get a brand new LG G3 from Amazon etc. The G4 & the Galaxy S5 will son be in the price point in the near future. In the end, unless you happen to be saving hundreds on a phone, it's just not worth it in the end up to import it from China.
corred1964 to mastin

The only 4G service I cannot access on mine is an O2 service (and even that isn't everywhere in the country)....I get excellent 4G with my EE sim

I have now owned 3 Chinese branded phones....never had an issue....never needed a warranty (unlike my wife's Sony or her earlier Samsung)....all 3 combined cost less than the Samsung alone & have given almost 6 years flawless service....in fact both of my previous phones are still serving the people I gave them to well....most of my upgrades have simply been because I wanted larger screens ..... not due to any failures
bellboys
10 Apr 16 5 #13
Ditto. I have a Meizu MX4 Pro which I paid 130 pounds for from Banggood and that has a Sony 20.7mp camera, a QHD 5.5 screen and real HIFi DAC ( SABRE ES9018K2M) . Totally happy to risk the lack of warranty on such an amazing device for the price.

It was actually the Moto G deal today that prompted my deal here. Of course it all depends on a person's opinion as to risk. For me, the difference in price is enough for me to 'risk' the warranty issue.

There has been an increase recently on high value goods from China being held in customs & Ali tend to declare accurate values

VAT will be around £26 while carriers will add between £12 & £20 for paying the charges

Fortunately at under £135 there should be no duty
