Warsteiner beer kegs 5 litres in home bargains for a tenner. Brewed in Germany to the reinheitsgebot purity laws. Proper imported stuff none of the U.K. brewed rubbish.

Hi all. Busy drinking now but I'm a bit worried. Says on side of keg - after opening the seal, immediate consumption is recommended. Starting to get a bit fighty . . .

Pateo
1 May 16#57
Yeah, never bought a keg b4, how long once first opened do they need to be used?
Wezhayw
1 May 162#58
At the top of the keg is the little air tap, it simply pops off if pulled up, then poke the piece of plastic underneath it into the keg. Pull out the rubber bung and tip upside down for the plastic piece.
Refilling them and sealing you either put the bung/air tap pieces together again then pop into the top of the keg. Or you can buy proper bungs for them.
HOT as empty mini kegs are around £6 each alone.

Quantity over quality then for you?
Carling is poor, no, very poor in comparison to Warsteiner, and most german beers for that matter.
GlentoranMark
1 May 16#65
They are brilliant, I've 3 Hobgoblin kegs and 2 mini kegs (same thing)I re-use time and time again. Pours a great pint and spares are cheap as chips. Much handier than sterilising 10 bottles.
The beer will keep fresh for about a week in these. Just remember to turn the airlock back to close after you use them (not always easy after 5 or so pints :o)
Al666
1 May 161#66
I tried bottles once instead of a big keg, never again because it's such a hassle.
Pateo
1 May 16#67
When you say keeps fresh, do you mean it keeps it's fizz (doesn't go flat)?
Bogart
1 May 16#68
God help me "Great stuff this" gnats **** is better than this!
macgyvers child
1 May 16#69
how do you pour from these? had one the other week. first half of the keg pint had very "european" heads, the second half was getting flat is there a particular skill for these or was it because i had just got it out the boot of my car getting it home and couldn't resist so it didn't have time to settle?
GlentoranMark
1 May 161#70
Depends on how much is drank out of it but it will keep some CO2.
If your using these for home brew, bungs for the top of these are 50p each plus delivery, buy several as their cheap as chips and can be useful. It can be a pain getting the original bung out, brute force is usually required.
GlentoranMark
1 May 161#71
Do not follow instructions (at least on the Hobgoblin kegs that I use)!
Open the valve at the top first and let the CO2 escape before you have your first pint. The beer will flow normally and not gush out if it were under pressure.
If you like a head on your beer hold your glass further away from the tap.
andynicol
1 May 16#72

great beer, although these kegs are a nightmare to use- got one recently from tescos at easter.. the flow was either blowing out at a rate of knots, producing just a load of froth or just dribbling out... total PIA to use, which is a pity as the beer has been a favourite for years
NayFUN
1 May 16#78
Haven't had any experience with these small kegs but having spent years in the pub trade full size kegs typically needed to be finished within a week of opening so shouldn't be different here.

Don't understand how so many people find this hot. At £1.00 per half litre, this is a very average price for what at 4.8% ABV and accompanying taste/reputation is a very ordinary beer AT BEST. Maybe it's because it comes in what is a very large tinnie and gives the impression that it is more than it really is? Cold, very cold.

More to do with the alcohol content and dehydration......The whole "chemicals thing" is massively overplayed. Besides this complies with the purity law, Germany sets a good example here it WILL only have water, hops, yeast and malted barley or wheat. They cannot even Americanise it with rice or sugar.
Man up, learn to love your hangovers!
