There will be no code. The phone is unlocked via Apple based on the iPhone's IMEI.
I would do it like this:
1. Buy phone
2. Receive phone
3. Ring 202 and pay off phone and request unlock.
4. Once unlock confirmed, you'll get a text/email, or can just try a diff sim, then cancel airtime.
5. Make sure any pro-rata payments outstanding are paid off.
6. Have a sandwich.
There are some who say cancel the airtime at the same time as doing 3, but others suggest leaving it going till the unlock is confirmed. YMMV.

Why do some people here think any sexual innuendo no matter how unoriginal and unfunny is hilarious and incredibly witty? It's like being back in secondary school with hormonal teenagers. Except even back then those jokes weren't funny. Yes, yes phone displays are measured in inches and so are penises. Yes, we get it. The joke is stale!

Check with o2 before buying, the refresh details on the 6s has changed and there is no mention of being able to cancel the airtime though there is still a link elsewhere on the site if you google it. There has been a lot of noise on the SE thread and it might be that they have changed the terms. Better to be safe
The 64Gb on pay as you go is £199 put in a 3 sim and it won't lock to ant network , then no need to do the credit at all. This is mentioned on th 5s thread.
Agree last week and even this week in the 6 thread but check the terms of the refresh and it's changed now no mention of being able to cancel the airtime. Been watching these for weeks still haven't bought yet :disappointed:

29 Apr 161#45
Well by cancelling the contract within a month it may significantly lower the average age of your credit accounts which is viewed negatively by lenders. Remember your credit score is rating how profitable you are to potential lenders, not how good you are with your finances. This wont make a significant difference, (doing it once every few years probably won't make any difference), and certainly won't be the difference to you obtaining a mortgage but just something to bear in mind if you plan on doing this multiple times a year.

Once I receive my phone all I have to do is
put o2 simcard in,
call o2 customer service and ask them to cancel airplan,
ask them if I can keep phone if I will pay it off 96 pounds,
if yes then go on web>myaccount and pay it off straight,
Do I have to send this simcard back? Do I have 7 days to call them regarding airtime contract?
If all will not work then I can still cancel everything and send phone and sim back and go out of it?
Thanks
bezzawezza
29 Apr 16#56
Can you definitely cancel the airtime plan? There's no mention anymore of being able to cancel this at any time (I know you used to be able to) and simply states that it's a 24 month airtime contract.
In theory, under distance selling, you could still cancel within 14 days but they'd be in their rights to ask for the phone back then.
Am I missing something obvious?

the wording has changed recently I am sure it used to be in the refresh details, someone on the 6s thread said the same thing after talking on webchat with o2. The iphone 6 thread of this week mentions that people had no issues but this could have changed since then.
True the one of the main selling point of 5s and above is the Touch ID.

I had to use a 5C for a couple of weeks to bridge the gap between selling my 5S and waiting for my SE to get here. Entering the passcode and passwords in all the time gets real old, real fast. The idea of saving £25 over say this one, but losing TouchID seems a bit odd.

I have both an iPod touch 6th gen in blue and an iPhone 5S silver. Both are wonderfully designed, but I find the silver iPhone 5S to be the more aesthetically pleasing. It just looks wonderful especially with the silver ring around the blank Touch ID home button which you don't get on the iPod touch.
For practical considerations, are you going to use the device outside/as a phone that doesn't need to rely on wifi? Then get the iPhone 5S. Are you going to use it indoors most of the time where you have wifi and don't need the GPS or 3G everywhere-connectivity capabilities of the iPhone? Then get the iPod touch. It's incredibly light and slim, 88g compared with iPhone 5S' 112g.
The iPhone 5S has Touch ID, has an battery percentage (which is actually accurate) as compared to no battery percentage and quite erratic battery meter that isn't very representative of actal battery life. That's always been an annoyance for me with the iPod Touches.

It's not the device price you pay its the
Total amount payable for device £96.00
Not the device cash price, you still need the airtime but cancel as soon as you get the phone.

Last time I did this, the process was very easy, however be warned that if you use your contract sim you will have to pay money for what you have used, so the best option you can do really is avoid turning the data on, and as soon as you insert the sim card request the unlock online and call 202 to pay in full & cancel.

I bought two phones at Christmas using similar deals for 5c and 6. It was a nightmare. Despite cancelling contract and them promising not to take airtime costs, they kept billing me for two months and then taking £550 & £289 for cancelling airtime. i did eventually get it all back, but it took several phone calls and weeks to get it all back. Would never do again, cost me 6/7 hours of phone calls and major stress as they were totally incompetent.

Just want to say that this is way better than those oversized Android phones - there is literally nothing anywhere near this quality at this size - 4 inches - that comes anywhere close. There is no Android equivalent because the dumb Droidbots think the bigger their phone the better the value and companies have no incentive to actually make a truly one handed phone like this. The smallest you can get really is 4.5+ inches. And im referring specifically to screen size because that's the distance your thumb travels, rather than overall handset size, which I know there are compact Android models.

I purchase a 16gb white and silver last night, it arrived today. Immaculate condition and supplied with new lead and pin.
I put in the sim, made a call out and received a call in.
I logged onto my O2 account and the phone was listed so requested an unlock via the website.
I then phoned O2 on 202 to pay off the handset and cancel the airtime.
The phone was easy, took the money and the phone is now showing as paid.
The airtime contract less easy, they advised to wait for the unlock before ending but could put through a cancellation for tomorrow.
2 hours later I get an email stating I can't unlock the phone as I have not used it to link the phone to the handset?
It now seems the phone is still linked to the old user and I need to use it for 24 hours before it clears the system.
This will be after the airtime disconnection.
The unlocking now seems to be a nightmare after spending 30 minutes on the phone and an hour in live chat.
Its still not sorted.
Forgot to mention, the phone has 12 months O2 warranty but also has Apple warranty until October 2016.

From memory their system stops you placing more than one order. Start a new order with a different email address, bank account and different payment card and it should work (or another adult's name who is happy to have the credit check etc).
ianharbron
29 Apr 16#202
O2 are stating that the phone is still linked to the previous users phone number and I need 24 hours of use, calls and data, to link the phone to my new contract telephone number.
The issue I now have is the disconnection has been put in for tomorrow and may happen before the unlock and that 24 hours of use.
Just have to wait and see what happens, wish I hadn't rushed to pay of the phone.

29 Apr 16#203
Oh no, of course, your comment definitely proves your highly superior knowledge of mobile phones and OS's. Pardon me, oh Ever Wise one! I've used upwards of 20 different mobile phones of both Android and iOS devices in the last five years, but heck what would I know!
And to clarify, I do know there are screen sizes for Android phones much smaller than 4.5". I'm saying that in the ones that are smaller than that size, they're always lesser, poorer screen etc. versions of the flagships, which are usually larger. If you know an Android phone that is the same screen size, screen quality, build quality etc. then feel free to prove me wrong about that. My opinion, which is based on experience, is that you can't find an equivalent to the 5S or the SE. If you have suggestions of devices I would actually be interested to know.
ianharbron
29 Apr 16#204
Ok after having trouble with the unlock I have been informed by O2 that you need to use the handset with the new sim/contract for 24 hours to link them together before unlocking.
I'd recommend anybody to not rush into cancelling the airtime contract until the phone has been confirmed as unlocked.
My disconnection has been postponed until the unlock has been completed, lets see what happens.

Has anyone been able to order in the last hour or so? First order went ok . Second order an hour later I get a screen saying call 202 etc to complete order. I called and they said website playing up and try again later. Tried just now and similar message. Don't want to try too many times just in case my credit history messes up. Anyone else seen this?

I've just called Apple about this and unfortunately you cannot extend the warranty based on the refurb purchase date. The 12 warranty is with O2, not with Apple. The Apple warranty starts/started the day the phone was purchased by its first original owner

Shaggy, I tried calling o2 but they cannot sell this particular phone online. I am having the same problem as you. It fails at the end or it keeps emptying the boxes I've filled in. There's something very strange going on.

I managed to chat online with them and the trick is to use a different email address which has never been registered on o2 before. The order goes through no problem.

iEimis to katestewart9279
30 Apr 161#292
Depends what person you get to speak to, sometimes o2 have genuinely nice professionals that can even offer you to send free pay and go card just in case you change your mind, and even cables and adapters. Spoke with a very nice guy before who willingly refunded me £15 for calling abroad without actually even activating my international sim card, because the one previously was lost and after a new one was activated somehow the tariff was gone and had to be re-activated by topping up the balance.
On the other hand you can get people who doesn't understand what you are talking about at all, so if you see that the call is going nowhere, better off just hanging up and calling 20 minutes later again.

Shaggy, I have tried that! With two new email addresses. I tried on a different computer too. I have run out of different things to try!! So I now have a grumpy daughter who wanted an iPhone for her birthday. :disappointed:

30 Apr 16#294
I'd call them up tomorrow morning or do an online chat. I think chat should still be available at this time. As I said, I was having the same bad luck as you, tried three times and kept failing at the end. I used the online chat link as phone lines close at 5pm weekends. The helpful person at the other end suggested I use a new email address, and voila- it worked!!! He stayed with me till the end and took me through step by step.
I suggest you try the same and failing that tonight , call up tomorrow
Best of luck
sunnycharlie
30 Apr 161#295
Thanks for the advice but that is exactly what I have already tried. I tried the online chat and they did the same, stayed with me while I worked it through, but it was declined at the end. This was using the same card that I used yesterday without a problem! I have tried two different emails and different cards.
I'm glad you succeeded! Maybe I will have one more go tomorrow...

Got phone yesterday, grade b 16gb 5s - no marks at all - basically like new- the only slight mark is where you out the pin in for the SIM card, barely noticeable.
I called o2 to cancel this morning and was told I could pay the device off but had to wait until after 14 days to cancel airtime - or I would have to send phone back - quite funny as live chat said I can pay off device and cancel air time. Anyway, I said that was surely incorrect ( I believe this initial call was to a foreign call centre) and she put me through to redemptions ( uk call centre )who said the previous advisor was incorrect.........she took the £96 device cost, cancelled airtime and said she would email unlock code even though I did not ask for that. Easy.
My advise:-b
-Get phone
-Put in o2 SIM card
-Call your new phone and send it a text just to make sure it's registered
-next day call 202 free from new phone
- press option 1
- then option 2
- then option 4 to get to redemptions
- pay off device
-cancel airtime ( may get 1 day tariff charge, about 50p)
- get unlock code from them - they just said they would email it without me even asking
- when they take the 50p tariff, cancel direct debit
- job done
Hope this helps someone, phone superb.

I've just got an email saying:
"Your bill for 01/05/16 is now ready.
Your Airtime Plan this month is £11.73, and your Device Plan payment comes to £4.00. These payments will be taken from your account on, or just after the date on your payment schedule. They might appear as separate amounts on your bank statement."
Is that safe to ignore?
Anon to misa426
1 May 162#327
Never safe to ignore - leave your Direct Debit running as they will likely still take payment and then refund. Their billing system is not designed for Refresh despite it being running for years - there is a real risk (if you cancel the DD) of them reporting missed payments to the credit reference agencies despite paying it off.
I am not scaremongering, it happened to me when I got my iPhone 5 and took months to get it sorted (and my credit score with Noddle, for what it is worth, has not recovered over a year later despite the initial error being corrected).

Just spoke to them as can't see my order on the account even though it says you can track it on it, seems you can't,I also get an error on my o2 and they say that's because the account isn't active until you get the phone and the number.
There is a delay in getting the phones out because of the bank holiday, the site does say working days so anything ordered before the weekend is only actually dispatched on the next working day so Tuesday for Wednesday delivery.

Got my phone yesterday, inserted the SIM and tried calling to and from / texting etc. Rang the 202 number today from my new phone (which is immaculate, I can't see any blemishes at all, apple warranty until October 16, 2016), went through the options stated earlier in this thread (option 1 then 2 then 4). Paid off the device and asked about the process for getting unlocked and cancelling, the lady did both of these on the phone, airtime being canceled tonight. I was however told I would be billed for the first month of airtime, then will need to ring up after the first month and ask for the unused airtime money to be refunded, no big hardship.
I did ask if any direct debits would need to be manually cancelled but was informed there is no need to do this.
Fingers crossed it seemed a very smooth and easy process, took about 5-10 minutes on the phone if that and now have a brand new iPhone 5S.

It's a fair point and I held out on iOS7 until recently on my 5S after seeing the iOS8 slowdown. I had to upgrade to 9 to get the apps I wanted, but I have to say, it still doesn't feel slow at all and it's worth it to me just to get access to Low Power Mode on its own.

Right. Mine turned up today. Tried cancelling the airtime via chat but was told I just needed to pay off device plan and it would take care of airtime plan. He gave me an 0800 number to ring so I called and they put me through to retentions! Hung up and called 202 and went through to thinking of leaving us. Asked to cancel airtime and pay of device plan, the lad sorted me out and asked if I was using phone on another operator, I said yes and he put the unlock request through. When he cancelled the airtime plan he did say something about it taking 30 days and if I needed to claim any money back after that I could do it after that?

Received the phone this evening. Mint condition as expected. Phoned O2 on 202 and went through to cancellations. Paid for the phone, £96, requested the unlock code and then cancelled the airtime. I was told it'll take a month to cancel, 2 June, and that I have to pay the full months bill of £11. It's only if the phone is returned does the airtime cancel immediately. Still OK by me. Just got off the phone with them to pay off the device and cancel the airtime - the lady was great and did it all. She said in 2 weeks time, you get a final bill confirming the cancellation and it will say you have paid £11 (as the first bill date is when you order the phone) and you have to pay however much line rental you use, so for me it was just today - you can get this money refunded by either calling customer services or you can click on a link in the final bill e-mail.
I also got sent an e-mail to confirm this:
"Your final bill will be ready 14 days after disconnection. This will include any refunds if you've paid in advance for any line rental past the disconnection date (this will show as a minus figure on your bill)"
She also confirmed my unlock is in process and that I should get an e-mail soon.

The phone has two warranties against them, the 12 months from o2 and what's left of the Apple warranty, much easier to deal with Apple as they will simply replace the phone on the warranty period. O2 will probably send it away for repair or offer a replacement, Apple though is much easier.

Hi, ok so i ordered my phone over the weekend and picking it up from the store tomorrow. After reading all (and i mean all) i hope this is the correct order to do thing in and can someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Collect phone, insert sim, activate sim by receiving a phone call/text.
Wait 24 hours for phone to be linked to sim
Call 202 to pay off handset, request unlocking code at the same time
Wait until unlock code has been sent and phone unlocked then via online chat cancel airtime
I will be billed the £11 on the 15th May but can request a refund (how?) because i didn't use any airtime and cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period.
Please let me know if this is the process and for later buyers i will post my outcome in the following days

Yeah, well essentially I dig into this a bit deeper, because I don't remember how it was with that final bill last time round. So basically the guy said, if you don't wanna take risks of messing your credit score up, leave direct debit open. £11.73 will be charged at 15th of May 2016 and then the money that they owe to you will eventually be refunded and direct debit cancelled from o2 side automatically. If you used phone for a day It will be like 50p or so. However now, those who ordered phones on Friday like me, and only got it on tuesday, and was able to cancel it today, in reality shouldn't be charged for those 5 days, maybe only for 1 because we literally were not able to physically use the phone or a tariff itself. I remember claiming a refund last time, and once again o2 was brilliant on this, because pretty similar thing happened to me. As my account was completely disconnected, I had no access so I said that I had roughly lost £4 as I was unable to use my phone physically or to even cancel it. And the guy didn't even checked it, just gave me £4 refund straightaway.

My wife's and mine were the opposite way round but Oct 2016 and Feb 2017. I believe that is what it relates to - does anyone know would sending a copy of the receipt/delivery note to Apple using the online submission result in it being extended to 12 months and reset to start from date of purchase? I know when I got my iPhone 5 a few years ago the system updated and removed the Apple warranty - does it still do that? A shame the 64gb hasn't been back in stock - 32gb appears overpriced compared to 16 and 64.

Apple normally say its first registration not second, someone said earlier they had also checked and apple confirmed.
It's not a code you get, it's unlocked at Apple and you sync it with iTunes. Try another sim and see the previous owner might have had it unlocked already.

This happened to me. I got the phone and tried it out with the O2 sim (along with some others to see if it was locked). I then phoned O2 to pay for device, cancel airtime and request unlocking.
I then stupidly left the phone on but without the O2 sim in it. I got an email last night saying they couldnt unlock it as the IMEI and O2 sim werent "latched" and I am now disconnected. My wife picked hers up yesterday - great condition, just a mark on the case at the bottom where it's obviously taken a bit of damage - very minor though. Checked the IMEI with Apple online and it's got 10 months Apple warranty still remaining.
She called today and spoke to a very helpful customer service rep - they put through the unlock request, paid off the handset and moved her over to PAYG - she'll just have to pay for the few days until that sim is activated.
Great deal and a much needed replacement phone for her - she is very happy. Thanks OP!

Hi,
Your iPhone unlatching request for IMEI 35205********** has been completed. To finish off unlocking your iPhone you need to put a non-O2 sim in and connect to iTunes using a USB cable. iTunes will then tell you the unlocking was successful; and you're away
All tested and working. :smirk:
Anon
6 May 16#646
You will also be able to login to view your final bill and request a refund from there too after the final bill is generated (why you should even have to request that they refund you, rather than their system processing it automatically, is another question!).
Just do not cancel the direct debit - it is a high risk of messing up your credit file. Likewise, do double check the bill as sometimes their billing system does spectacularly mess up and charge you for 24 months line rental (been there, done that!).

so my unlock still hasn't come through after 42 hours, spoke to them twice the day it was requested and also requested it online and they said there was no issues. Turns out that when I first cancelled I hadn't made any calls, even though when I later checked with them 6 hours later I had made two calls and received one. Turns out the calls have to be made before the initial request unlock.
Also checked on the final bill generation, it should be 7 to 14 days after you cancel so as mentioned will probably need to claim a refund with the way they take the direct debit.

My process seems to have completed successfully, so I thought I'd write up what I've learnt for posterity.
1. When you get the phone, insert the O2 SIM card. This will lock it to O2. Apparently a Three SIM doesn't lock you to it, but that might complicate further stages. I'm not sure you actually need to make a call, but it can't do any harm.
2. Wait until your number is working, then wait until your MyO2 account (on the website) is fully functional. It should not show a disconnected bill, and it should show the correct IMEI number. Initially it will only show the details of your order. This took about 12 hours after first inserting the SIM. If you call O2 before your account is functioning they will have no record of your number, but they can look you up by name & postcode (although there's not much they can do but tell you to call back later).
3. Request the unlock using MyO2. It will say the request has been submitted, but you won't get any text/email confirmation of this. Make sure before you submit it that you have a functioning email address, and probably a contact number too (not necessarily the number of your new O2 account).
4. Call 202 from the device, then choose options 1, then 2, then 4, to be put through to retentions. They will ask for your passphrase - not password - so have it to hand. From there, ask to pay off the Device Plan, and also cancel the Airtime Plan. You'll need to pay immediately, so have a payment method to hand - preferably the same as was used to enter the contract. I think you can also pay off the Device Plan on MyO2, but I didn't check.
5. You should then be asked when you want the Airtime Plan to end (i.e. the date your SIM will no longer work). Remember you'll be charged whatever fraction of the first month your SIM has been active. Also remember that when the Airtime contract is cancelled, your MyO2 reverts to the pre-active state, so you can't submit another unlock request again should something go wrong, because the option is no longer there. I think an earlier commenter stated they had to phone and ask for the SIM to be reactivated for 48 hours, to be able to submit another unlock request, so it might be easier to delay the termination date for at least 2 days after you submit the unlock request, or perhaps just wait until it's unlocked before terminating the contract. For what it's worth, I terminated the Airtime Plan after submitting the unlock request but before the unlock code came through, and other than the frustration of a day of being locked to O2 without having an account, it worked out OK.
6. Around 2 days after the unlock request, you should get an email telling you to connect iPhone to iTunes with any non-O2 SIM inserted. Do this, and you're done!
7. It might be a good idea to reset your network settings (Settings -> General -> Reset) if you have iMessage or FaceTime problems, as it doesn't seem to like network switching too often.

6 May 16#660
good post, however, it is critical now that you make a call on the sim even when its showing on the website with the imei number and phone number or they will not be able to unlock it. Mine took minutes to update on the website but the mistake I made was paying off the device and unlocking at the same time without making the call. Though I made the call later and requested the unlock on myo2 after that and confirmed the unlock request was in with them on webchat about 6 hours after the first request to unlock. They managed to find my account with the phone number again within minutes of putting it in the phone. Spoke to them twice today and they are saying the actual phone call is critical part of the unlocking now :disappointed:

Thanks for that, picked my phone up yesterday, (in perfect condition) inserted sim, received a text, sent a couple of texts, (no phone call yet) requested unlock via my O2 still waiting but about to make a call (activating) before ringing up to pay off phone. One quick (maybe stupid question) what is a passphrase?! I will also request an unlock from them once I've made the call and hopefully receive that before cancelling airtime.

Hi guys, received mine yesterday. Unfortunately my 5s did not register on the O2 network after inserting the sim card. Unfortunately received a mail from O2 saying to return the handset and they can't replace as there are no handsets left out. They will cancel the contract. Calling 202 is a call on the network so would be fine.
Also worth downloading o2 priority app and activating it while your o2 contract is live (you enter the mobile number in the app, it sends an activation code which you then enter - job done ). You then have access to all the offers and no need to be on o2.

You obviously got someone who does not understand their Refresh product - go through the options for Leaving and they understand it. You want to pay off the device plan, they should then ask if you want to keep the airtime running (if not say you want to cancel) they may ask about keeping the number but I just said I had a sim from work . No need for payg unless you need it.

7 May 16#694
Sorry about that, I should have explained it further. When I bought it online I didn't have a MyO2 account, and they ask for the usual email address and password, but also the 'recovery question' (or whatever it is they call it). For example, "What is your mother's maiden name?". That's what I meant by passphrase. I only mentioned it because they asked me for it when I called up, but I usually just type a load of random keys, and then write that down, instead of the real answer. So if I didn't have it to hand, or had to read out 100 random letters over the phone, it could have been tricky
I'd also add that the operator seemed sure I'd previously had an iPhone 3GS even after I explained it was my first ever O2 account, so perhaps the phone number or IMEI (i.e. phone ID) is still associated when they sell refurbs. Either way, it didn't matter.

I am still having trouble cancelling airtime with them after paying off the device in full then requesting unlock, unlocked the phone rang to cancel airtime got passed around about three times, online chat couldn't do it rang twice and said it has to be a 30 day notice will be cancelled on the 31st May. I have finally, after speaking to online and on the phone 9 different people today had a request to cancel the airtime immediately accepted over online chat and this should be in place within 2-24 hours! I have had an email of the transcript sent to my email address and also screenshot that reply just in case. I can understand them not wanting you to leave after paying for a 5s at £96 but that was ridiculous! I advise anyone wanting to do this deal to persevere with it and know your rights!

7 May 16#699
Hopefully only the first months bill of £11 odd will come out as a final bill and I can claim back the refund, out of principle now as I would have been happy to pay and use that had it been simple to leave and not been told a pack of lies all day!

7 May 16#701
Ring them or online chat them again and cancel the request for PAYG and state you are within your rights to cancel the airtime within the 14 day cooling off period. I got offered to match my Three deal at £8 per month and send a PAYG sim out and once that was active they would cancel the contracted airtime, however that could take up to a week...meaning the 14 day cooling off period would be long gone and left with unwanted airtime and the following months bill. Persevere I was ready to give in and they finally said it would be cancelled immediately and able to view within 2-24 hours, I will be ring back tomorrow with photographic proof I was told it was cancelled if not. Lol.

Hi all. I noted several posters indicated they had checked how much apple warranty they have left on their phone. I did the same. However, I have just read somewhere that the apple warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the phone when it was new. If one buys it used, any remaining warranty does not transfer. Does anyone know if this would be the case with the phones we have all purchased? They are refurbished and so presumably Apple would class as bought used. I know we have 12 months 02 warranty, but it would be good to know if we have a valid Apple warranty too.

Well I got my refurbished 5s from 02 and was not happy with the screen, all seemed fine on the phone until on closer inspection, one corner was very slightly raised, took it into Apple they thought it may have been a swollen battery and replaced with a new 5s,excellent service. when checked how much warranty was left with Apple when I first got the phone,it was till the end of June 16 so the warranty did still count with Apple

I may be one of the lucky ones - just called O2, paid off the device and asked to cancel airtime. Spoke to 'Johnny' and he said yep, no problem. Can someone help - I ordered my phone a week ago and paid off my phone days ago, got the unlock and it's working. Just called to try and cancel the airtime and the guy is insistent that I have to give 30 days notice. I kept saying that within 14 days I could cancel on the refresh contract but he was insistent that it was 30 days notice and kept quoting "section blah blah" of the contract. I said to him I don't think you know your own contract but he said he did. In the end I just said I'd speak to someone else.
Is there anything I can do? Can you cancel via live chat or is there some kind of thing I can quote if I ring up again. Feel a bit stressed by this - need to get it done this week or I'll be over 14 days.

Here's what happened to me:
Ordered grade B refurb when it said stock available, signed up for contract, direct debit, etc.
Received phone next day - not a mark on it, Grade A, in fact better than the grade A 5S I got from Smartfonestore a while back.
Checked Apple warranty, good until December 2016.
Made a call.
On MyO2 site had to wait about 18 hours for the IMEI to appear.
Then attempted to unlock using the My O2 app, it didn't work, about 8 hours later got an email from o2referrals saying "The mobile number provided has not been used with the handset IMEI provided. The two will need to be associated before we can unlatch."
Made another call, sent and received a text. Tried again, but 2 hours later got the same email.
Next day tried again, this time it worked, received email within a couple of hours confirming unlatching, connected to iTunes with a Three SIM and all working fine, (but no message displayed from iTunes). Probably just a matter of waiting a while before unlocking until their system sets things up? or maybe just quicker phoning!
Called 202 from phone today and paid off phone and cancelled airtime contract, was asked why, just said I'd got a better deal elsewhere, (was also asked if I wanted to return the phone or keep the number, when I wanted it to stop, etc). I was told it'll take a couple of weeks for the final bill to come through on the direct debit and it'll be pro-rata on the time I've used.
No mention of PAYG sim. No hard sell, no waiting in a queue, very nice service in fact. Thanks OP and thanks O2.

No, do not cancel it - they will likely still claim the DD and then refund you when you request the refund after the final bill - if you cancel the DD there is a significant risk they will report it as a missed payment even if you paid (I know as they did something similar to me last time and it took months to sort!).

If all you want to do is to remove the passcode and Touch ID, there's no need to do a full factory reset.

First, huge thanks to OP for this deal. This was my experience. I ordered the 16Gb version. It arrived with a brand new cable. The phone was flawless and completely unmarked. On checking with Apple, its Apple warranty is valid until Jan 2017. A result. Paid off £96. Cancelled airtime contract. Because the Boss was previously on O2's Simplicity £9/month sim-only deal, they said that that contract was cancelled and I had to go to the £11/month airtime. When I gently reminded them that I could get a Sim-only deal elsewhere for £5/month, they miraculously found a £8/month Sim only deal with 500mins, 500mb and 500 texts. Again, huge thanks and lots of good karma to OP, "grandads50".

I'm not sure if it's the "final bill", but the first bill you immediately got should be the £11-ish one, which is debited 14 days after signup. You can use the online chat to get that refunded. A few days later you get the "Early Termination" charge of £217.87, to be debited 14 days later. According to the chat, that will be removed after you claim the refund.

I would strongly suggest not cancelling the direct debit, no matter how annoying it is. Their system cannot be trusted not to report it as a missed payment. To the credit reference agencies. If your account can take it, it is probably better to let the payment go and wait for the refund. It is very annoying that their system still is working to n this way many years after they launched their Refresh tariff.

mines all gone through, once u get ur first bill which should be the monthly airtime whatever airtime u selected.. then within 14 days after cancelling u will get final bill where it would say how much they owe you ( I.e I bought this deal with 21.50£ airtime deal on 17th they charged me first bill which was 21.50£ and then 2 days later when my 14/days were finished they sent Mr final bill where it was like 18.77-£ and under that it was click here to arrange refund clicked on it filled the form ) to those who wants to cancel their DD I would advise not to just to be safe in case if they wanted to refund u or even charge.. could be a fraud if u had close yours one of the blokes mentioned that here happened to him.. so yea good luck everyone

The Final Bill (it states Final Bill) offers that option for a refund (a link on the page). Of course, they could refund any monies due automatically by why make it easy/straightforward for the customer? Why would you not want it refunding? O2 systems leave a lot to be desired.

There is literally no mention of the word finally on any page of MyO2 that I still have access too. The payment history, in the 'Account position' section, says the airtime account is pending £208, and £0 for the device plan. Payment details are £96 for the device plan, and £11.73 for airtime. No refund or final bill as of yet. The £217.87 is listed as the 'Early Termination' charge.
Incidentally, once the number was disconnected I only have access to the bill section. I don't know if that's normal. I cancelled on (I think) 5th of May, so its only just been 14 days. I'll give it a few more days.

Ignore this. Cancel the direct debit. It is a mistake and they will have to remove it from your credit file, if it ever even gets on there. O2 messed up on 2 of my accounts with this, but have said they are zeroing both accounts. They should probably try to get a dev to fix their billing system for refresh contracts.
Anon
22 May 16#798
Don't cancel the Direct Debit - they do report it to the credit reference agencies and even though they may then correct it, your credit score (for what it is worth) can still be damaged. Two years ago they refunded me upon my final bill (by debit card on the phone as I had overpaid the phone plan) and then unknown to me processed the refund again to my bank account. I didn't notice as the second refund was not a main account and did not have online banking, 3 months later I was refused a new account elsewhere and upon checking my credit file they had reported a debt - this was despite nothing showing in my online account (as it was closed) and no contact at all by letter. They eventually accepted this was their error and removed it from my credit file yet over a year later my credit score has not recovered. I appealed to the credit reference agency concerned and was told they take lots of things into consideration and will not review.
Yes I have got a new phone again this time and yes I have been charged the full airtime again - their system has still not been updated for how Refresh works.

I got the £210.00 bill, so I phoned customer services and she said it was a mistake. She put me on hold and then told me they would wipe the £210.00 off my account and I should cancel the direct debit. They will send me an email or text to advise that the money has been wiped from my account within 3 days.
I won't be cancelling the direct debit yet as I don't want a negative credit rating.

I too just got the £209 bill! went straight to chat and issue resolved immediately. I asked for email confirmation, will see if it arrives. When i go to My O2 there isn't a bill showing as the account is disconnected. Very odd. Maybe they just weren't poised for such a massive response to this deal. Hope they rectify their procedures for the next great refresh deal

Unfortunately it is not down to how many people responded, it is their billing system that is flawed and has been since they introduced Refresh 3(?) years ago.

Well I have to say O2's billing system is seriously screwed up and needs a major software update to cope with the Refresh rules.
I got a Samsung S6 back at Christmas on a Refresh deal and paid it off... and forgot about it. Then I got two of these iPhone 5S's at £96 a few weeks ago and forgot about them.
Checked online bills and for the S6 in Dec/Jan was charged £391 final charge !!! I checked my bank account and there it was... Refunded after a quick-ish chat online.
The 5s charges werent too bad. Two bills of £8.88 which were quickly refunded on the same chat. Now to keep an eye on the refunds in 3-5 days!!!
O2 refresh - some great deals to be had but require regular checking and contacting O2 to resolve the billing issues.

Well I've just been speaking on chat for the past 30 mins as the airtime contract wasn't actually cancelled when I asked 2 weeks ago when I paid off the device. I was expecting the final bill this week, which is why I contacted them. Glad I did!

It takes me to a bill but it says nothing about being final (or a refund), just a termination charge.
For what it's worth, online chat (along with claiming to sort the problem) also explicitly told me to cancel the DD, so I don't know what's going on. It amazes me how, at least for me, every big company's billing system finds a way to overcharge.
Anon
25 May 16#806
My account was the same - contacted CS online and they apologised and said they would resolve it and then a final bill would be produced. My wife's did not have the termination fee and did have a link for getting a refund of the £8 odd credit on the bill, so we are seeing different screens to confuse the matter further.

well this is the third refresh deal I've done, got to say they (02) have well and truly screwed up this one
Yesterday I got an email regarding a failed direct debit payment (£11) went onto live chat and sorted that out
Today I got a bill for £200.54, again I went on Live chat, at first they tried to say it was right
until I pointed out I had paid off the device plan (£96) and cancelled the airtime all within 48 hours of receiving the phone
Ahh so you did, yes sorry I'll sort that straight away
asked about credit score/file etc, was told it won't effect that
one other point I cancelled a number of direct debits earlier this week, in the process I must of cancelled the 02 ones so they can't get the money anyway

From experience where they wrongly refunded me twice and I genuinely didn't notice (as it went into two different accounts, one that I rarely use), yes tell them. They still had it as a debt on another part of the system and reported it to the credit reference agencies, trashing my credit score. They didn't send a bill, a letter and it wasn't visible online so I had nothing to check. It took months to resolve (after a rejected credit application elsewhere I was promoted to check) and my credit sore has not fully recovered since despite the credit files being corrected.

I'm having a nightmare with mine. Phoned up on the day I got the phone and paid off the handset, I then asked to cancel airtime too, the bloke said a final bill will be generated in a month. Anyway a couple of days after that I received a bill for £11 and thought I'll sort that in a month when the final bill comes, then today I get another big for £11! Went onto chat to see if my airtime agreement was cancelled and it hadn't been so he did it for me then. I asked for a refund for the other bills and was passed to finance. That bloke (someone called Ronaldo) said I have to serve a 30 day cancellation period which will incur at least a one month charge. I just couldn't get my point across so I closed the chat window. I might try e-mailing the address above.

Looks like they didn't process your cancellation properly (no surprise, their system, or their staff, or both, can be worse than useless). You are unlikely to get any joy from chat as the team there will not have the authority to process it apart from 30 day notice (as you are beyond the 14 day cooling off period). Perhaps contact complaints and ask them to review their reocrdings that will clearly show you paid off the device and asked to cancel the airtime?

Has anyone received an unlocked grade a phone from o2 refresh?
My phone arrived today with both back and front plastic still on the phone. Went to apple website which says support is until 31st May 2017.
I put an unlock request earlier on in the day, however not long after I was curious as to whether the phone was unlocked so tried an EE pay monthly sim. The phone prompted me to link the sim to the phone (or something to that effect) and asked me to provide my Apple ID password. Once I did this the phone screen went white with the apple logo in the middle for a couple of seconds and then the signal showed EE at the top. I made a call with my EE sim which worked fine and called the phone. Took EE sim out and put o2 sim back in. The phone again went through the notice on screen to say provide Apple ID password in order to link the sim to the handset or something like that, and after the white screen with Apple logo for a few short seconds I was back on o2 network.
Any time I have swapped a sim from different networks in an unlocked phone I have never seen the process as observed above.
Do you think this is potentially going to mess up my unlock request with o2?
play21er
2 Jun 16#822
Your phone is already unlocked if u have signal with an o2 sim and a EE sim.
If it was locked when you put the EE sim in the iPhone the screen would read activation required.
androidavis
2 Jun 16#823
Here's the thing play21er, it seems both your statements are applying.
If I take out the o2 sim and replace with my dads EE sim, the phone asks to activate with my Apple ID and asks for the password. After that I can use the EE sim. When I put the o2 sim back in my phone wants to activate using my Apple ID again, and after that I can use the o2 sim.
Is this happening because the phone is new and is still in the process of trying to lock to the first sim with the apple servers but hasn't? Just worried that my phone locks to another network in the next few hours or days and o2 won't be able to unlock it !
androidavis
2 Jun 16#824
Well, there's more...if I turn off Find My Phone, the phone now activates the different sim going to the blank screen with Apple logo for a couple of seconds and back to the new network showing at the top, but without me needing to type in my Apple ID.
Just came off the phone with Apple - their systems say the phone is locked to o2!

2 Jun 16#826
Just seeing a signal coming up at the top on another sim does not mean it is unlocked. I put in a Three sim, saw the signal but when you go through the setup screens it will eventually tell you the sim is not valid (can't remember the exact words). I think it is after you log in with your iTunes address.

I would never cancel the direct Debit. They have form for messing up credit files. Cancelling does not mean their system does not think you don't owe them still - unless properly resolved it will still be there as a debt and depending on timing could get reported to credit reference.agencies.
Anon
16 Jun 16#855
And another point - it is has been a "technical issue" for some people for three years since Refresh was introduced(I think every Refresh deal thread has examples) - how many thousands of people have to have this treatment before they sort it?

I finally got the Airtime refund today. I think it's issued monthly, as today is one month after it was withdrawn. The correct course of action would have been to cancel the Direct Debit after that payment (i.e. before the £200+ was taken). I think that if it's in place when the billing time arrives, it'll be taken no matter what they say. In my case, that charge made me overdrawn, so the bank refused the payment at the day's end of business. But because I'd been on chat in the meantime, O2 issued also issued a £200 credit. So now I'm waiting for an extra £200 to turn up in my account, so I can pay it back...
Incidentally, if you lose money for any reason (bank charges etc), or just are not satisfied, escalate it and it'll get sorted much quicker.

16 Jun 16#857
Given my experience with the Airtime contract refund, you might have to wait for the monthly billing cycle. Or it might take 5 working days. Frankly, god knows.

Yeah I think this has happened to me (although ironically I didn't cancel the DD, but their withdrawal made me overdrawn, so it had the same effect). If the advice came from the front-line customer service people, I would take it with a massive pinch of salt. They're are certainly able to issue a credit refund. If you feel you're being given the runaround, especially after 14 days, ask to escalate it to a Customer Service Manager, or if you're so inclined, contact the CEO, in which case someone will look into it and give you a call. But whatever you do, don't ignore it and hope it sorts itself out.
For those that had the over/continuos billing issues (I can see people have problems ongoing) have any of you had this resolved in the end - and what was it in the end that brought the billing problems to an end?

In fairness, it doesn't seem to happening to everyone, and it only happens once, but it seems the system doesn't recognise that, by choosing O2 Refresh and buying the device outright, you shouldn't be charged the £200 fee. If the DD hasn't been cancelled by that time, and you happen to have enough money for the transaction to proceed, then they seem to want you to file an indemnity claim with the bank (which I assume they don't contest). Otherwise they may issue a corresponding credit. And if it does cause you to go overdrawn they pay the charges.
Either way, it does seem to have sorted itself out for most (although my account still shows them owing me a month's credit, which they've already repaid). It's just a load of faffing about. And the fear of cancelling a Direct Debit, even though you no longer owe anything, doesn't help matters.

They are useless. I was just checking my bank statements and find that they have refunded me ... twice! Once to my registered account, once to an old account that I hardly ever use. I only requested the refund once so it is their system failure again :disappointed:.
Why is that an issue, I hear you ask - surely you are £200+ up? Unfortunately it is not the bonus that it may appear - the last time they did this (over a year ago, on my last Refresh deal) they again refunded twice, didn't notify me and I didn't notice - they trashed my credit report due to the debt (that they never once informed me about and wasn't showing in my online account). My credit rating has still not recovered despite it eventually getting removed from my account after four months of chasing.

Where is this refund link please? I don't see it either in the email bill or on my bills in my account on O2.
I love my phone but this has been such a long drawn out farce, I don't think I'd do it again.
I filled in the refund request form and finally received £8.80 back - however I was expecting over £22. I asked to cancel my contract when I paid off my device, within the 14 day cooling off period - I KNOW I did because she tried to sell me another contract.
However some weeks later when I realised a final bill never came, I contact chat and found it was never cancelled on that day. It was officially cancelled almost a month later. I've been on online chat about 10 times to sort this mess out - now I'm going to call them and see if they recorded that first cancellation I requested. It's not £200 (thank god - I feel bad for those who've had that issue) but I still want it back!
...Has anyone had THIS particular issue and had it resolved?

Along with this and the Galaxy s6 they had on at Christmas , they were both a farce from start to finish . I didn't even check my galaxy s6 statement but they're charged me £400 for the phone in January and luckily I checked it after getting the 5s deal and reading comments on here.
Refunds finally sorted for both 5s and s6 from December .
But this is such a farce and their systems clearly not equipped to deal with their own contract and can easily mess up people's credit ratings is it really worth it to go through all this and mess up just about everything else financially in your life ?

Ok to update - I called them today and am getting the rest refunded. Wouldn't bother with chat if you have ongoing/major problems, I was on the line for some time (20 mins) but it was still quicker than the chats and they could actually sort it.

Please can someone give me some advice as to what I shall do next?
I've been dealing with O2 since June and there is still no sign of my refund yet. I even contacted my bank but they said I shall get O2 to sort this out. They promised so many times that refund will be done with 5-10 days. I am really very annoyed with them. They took the money from an account I rarely use so there is not much in. When they took that GBP 200+, it went overdraft. I was really mad because I've never gone overdraft in my life.
Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

get in touch with the CEO's office
I guarantee it will be sorted within days, usually you get a response/acknowledgement within 24 hours
any issues I have I always go straight to the top, works a treat every time
Instead of contacting o2 again, I've contacted Ombudsman Services https://www.ombudsman-services.org/ . I heard about them from a friend having energy bill problem with Npower. They got the problem resolved for her with compensation. I thought why not give it a try? They've resolved my case for me as well. O2 proposed to give me £70 in compensation along with a written apology through Ombudsman. O2 refunded my money to my bank account after their finding to prove that O2 was wrong to take my money away. When I accepted the proposal, the money went to my bank account the following day. Although I am still waiting for the written apology and the compensation. We will see. At least I've got my money back and that's the main thing for me. Hope this might help someone in the future.

these are grade b, so may have some marks, but if your not happy simply send it back,
purchase on a refresh tariff, when you receive the phone simply call up and cancel the airtime and pay the phone in full, also request unlocking
phone payment is £0.00 upfront and £4 a month x 24 = £96
these phones have 12 months warranty
available in silver, gold or grey
and the 64gb is available for £189.99,
with £69.99 upfront and £5 a month on a 1gb tariff (69.99 + (24x 5) = £189.99)
Grade B refurbs
Almost as good as new. May have some scratches, scuffs or chips. Refurbs have been returned to us under a customer's 14 day cooling off period, or warranty replacement. They have been security wiped, run the latest operating systems and come with a 12 month warranty.
- rodman
64gb is out of stock
- eslick
64GB Model Space Grey and Gold both still available. 16GB Model all colours still available.

YMMV.

12 months warranty included and the 64 gb is only £189.99
£11.00 of that is the airtime, which you cancel
Leaving £4.00 for the phone x 24 which you pay off (£96.00)
check out the comments on this thread, no problems with the 5s in the last week

If not then I can still cancel everything due to online purchase?
Thanks for deal grandads
and at least it wont do this credit score lowering nonsense!!
It brightened up my morning - my mother in law uses loads of these (they are called malapropisms) & I'm always tempted to correct her but haven't the heart.
Problem is I dread to think some of the bloopers I've typed on HUKD & I've probably painted a target on my back now.
put o2 simcard in,
call o2 customer service and ask them to cancel airplan,
ask them if I can keep phone if I will pay it off 96 pounds,
if yes then go on web>myaccount and pay it off straight,
Do I have to send this simcard back? Do I have 7 days to call them regarding airtime contract?
If all will not work then I can still cancel everything and send phone and sim back and go out of it?
Thanks
In theory, under distance selling, you could still cancel within 14 days but they'd be in their rights to ask for the phone back then.
Am I missing something obvious?
Its mentioned here but this may be an old link.

How would you feel if you didn't have a mum
How does unlocking actually work.
Should you request unlock code, make sure it is unlocked then call and cancel?
Or can you cancel and still unlock?
Thanks

I ask as I see o2 have grade A's for £153, and the grade B's for the price in the OP. Argos have it £259 new sim-free which is a start but needs to go sub £200.
Where does it show I can cancel the 24 month airtime contract without penalty?
I saw it there at the bottom
I can see upfront £29.99 | Monthly £11.00 = (11x24=264) £264.00 total
Also - how does the cancelling airtime plan work? Do you have to call up within 30 days?

Ive not see the thread, but I have bought phones from them before and they have been fine, that will be luck of the draw also then I guess. They have all had new screens, as new buttons clicks and decent batteries. One died after 6+ months and they repaired it and sent it back for free.
Yeah you're right, my mistake I didn't see the S. This is a much better deal.
If I follow the link, select 64GB, space grey, the cheapest tariffs are (£0 upfront + £22/month) or (£69.99 upfront + £19/month)
It's not the device price you pay its the
Total amount payable for device £96.00
Not the device cash price, you still need the airtime but cancel as soon as you get the phone.
it's the £0 and £15 and most of the airtime plans
Also, has anyone bought more than 1 deal?
I'm really tempted by this - I could do with a new phone (have Samsung Galaxy Y) but hmmm. Argh.
also if I buy two will it be just as easy to cancel both contracts and buy them outright? thanks.
And u can do with 6 6s too
For the record i am always polite and spend ages helping others.
It's not me as I ordered one a couple of hours ago for one daughter and that went through without a problem. Now daughter number two wants one as well!!
The issue I now have is the disconnection has been put in for tomorrow and may happen before the unlock and that 24 hours of use.
Just have to wait and see what happens, wish I hadn't rushed to pay of the phone.
I'd recommend anybody to not rush into cancelling the airtime contract until the phone has been confirmed as unlocked.
My disconnection has been postponed until the unlock has been completed, lets see what happens.
So it seems the best way to go about this £96 job is to set the phone up, wait 24hrs, get phone unlocked by O2 and then cancel?
Few hours later I called them up and cancelled the contract and brought the handset outright.
A day later they emailed me the unlock code
It's a easy process if you get the right customer advisor

Get a life
ordered one for collection as though it could be faster than delivery during the bank holiday, but it actually scheduled my collection on wednesday 4th of may.
Thanks
I ve finally done everything for one phone and wondering if I can order second one for my self with same account.
First one went to my missus :P
Thu Night - Ordered
Fri Noon - Received
Activated using O2 SIM
Fri 4:00 PM - Raised unlock request via Live Chat
Sat 9:00 AM - Received email unlock done.
Put Three SIM and it worked fine
Called Customer Services, paid £96 and cancelled Airtime Plan
Sat 1:00 PM SIM disconnected.
Just hope, I don't need to sort out big bill if any.
Immediately after receiving I requested my unlock code via the O2 website. Ten minutes after this I called to cancel airtime contract. Spoke to a very pleasant lady who obliged my request without question. Paid the £96 by debit card and was told that the phone would be cancelled within just a few hours. Apparently I will be billed 1 day's worth of airtime. So about 50p. No big deal.
All in all excellent service from O2 from start to finish. Let's just hope that everything happens as it should from here and there are no nasty surprises in my bill!
Phone is immaculate, with sticky covers like brand new, plus also came with lightning cable and sim pin.
Just waiting a few more hrs now to cancel airtime and pay off £96, as o2 said it has to be 24hrs since order complete.
Thanks to the OP, this was a really great deal
Ironically twice yesterday my £153.99 payg switched itself off on the table...I thought the few times it was in my pocket it was off was maybe hitting the power button for a extended period, but apparently that cant happen without the slide off motion, news to me lol
Thanks OP HEAT!
Try to sign in to view my order but cant see anything?
She says she's quite happy with her 5c
Is the 5s a lot better?
Cheers
Thanks
Why is the new phone number linked to another person?. Anyway the woman on the phone says i can only unlock the phone after 3-6 months! I have made and received calls with the new phone, thanks
Restart your pc and try again
On the other hand you can get people who doesn't understand what you are talking about at all, so if you see that the call is going nowhere, better off just hanging up and calling 20 minutes later again.
I suggest you try the same and failing that tonight , call up tomorrow
Best of luck
I'm glad you succeeded! Maybe I will have one more go tomorrow...
This is however an amazing offer though for those who like pocket-friendly, one handed 4" phones. Have voted hot.
Can I ring them and cancel the airtime now before I've collected the phone ?
You'll get your first bill within four days, depending on the date you join us. Your account will be debited 14 days after you receive your first bill, and your bill date will be the same every month. We’ll email you to say how much it will be.
Please tell me if someone has ordered one last night and still waiting for an another email saying that it has been completed and due to be send.
@Anon
I think that because I ve already done everything for one phone that why it let me order another one.
I am not scaremongering, it happened to me when I got my iPhone 5 and took months to get it sorted (and my credit score with Noddle, for what it is worth, has not recovered over a year later despite the initial error being corrected).
EliTom
Just spoke to them as can't see my order on the account even though it says you can track it on it, seems you can't,I also get an error on my o2 and they say that's because the account isn't active until you get the phone and the number.
There is a delay in getting the phones out because of the bank holiday, the site does say working days so anything ordered before the weekend is only actually dispatched on the next working day so Tuesday for Wednesday delivery.
Mine was for the grade A £144 deal - but the principle will be the same
also my phone was unlocked so no unlock code required - put an O2 PAYG card in first - activated the handset then tested with three and EE sim - both were fine !
EliTom
I did my line rental cancelation online via live chat - that way you get a transcript of the line rental cancellation converstaion
also tell them you want to pay of the device but they will tell you to do that by phone because they need credit card details
as I said mine was unlocked anyway - but if yours is not unlocked then request the unlock via chat too
hth
EliTom
If so one less problem to sort out. Thanks
EliTom
Doesn't really matter just thought I would ask. Thanks.
So is the process literally, when you get the phone, activate it, then call 202 to pay the £96 and request unlock code. Then the next day call up again and cancel the airtime? Or do you have to wait till the unlock process is completed to cancel the airtime?
Cancelled airtime this morning - paid off £96 device plan
Live chat this evening to unlock phone (forgot whilst cancelling this morn)
Phone unlock confirmation email received an impressive hour later!
All in all, excellent service from o2.
Cold for me.
They lie about the order being in stock and then you have to wait months in the hope that they actually send the order and then hope that it turns up. Their customer service is also a complete joke.
It'd be great if you could, though! £4 a month for a still fairly decent phone, bargain!
But the email doesn't say what delivery company or how to track (14 digit number starting with 310...........)
I did ask if any direct debits would need to be manually cancelled but was informed there is no need to do this.
Fingers crossed it seemed a very smooth and easy process, took about 5-10 minutes on the phone if that and now have a brand new iPhone 5S.
Do not fear the grade B's they are as immaculate as a new phone.
you can get all the details you need from your O2 onine account
EliTom
The phone itself is in absolute perfect condition
I did the same sort of 'deal' with my 5s in September and paid £210 which I thought was a deal at the time for grade A.
I didn't have to unlock my phone it worked when I put my sim card straight in, because I never put the O2 sim card into the phone. They'll be arriving tomorrow and I know they'll be happy with their new phones
Then again, you could go into CeX and get possibly a better deal.
will wait til tomorrow
Ding Dong..............
Your request has been submitted.
What next?
We'll usually contact you within 24 hours of submitting your request, but sometimes it can take up to seven days. We will contact you by text or email to tell you what to do next.
Can I still ring 202 to cancel...it's updating at the mo so can't check...
It's in great Nick though so another thanks to OP
The phone is not brand new, but in mint condition. Paid device plan off and cancelled airtime plan, now wait for the unlock code.
Thanks OP!
Guess we are using the 14 days cooling off period rule, so no need for 30 days' notice? Try to speak to them again...
https://checkcoverage.apple.com/gb/en/
Phone came today - perfect condition and warranty till January 2017. Going to do the unlocking now and wait till tomorrow to cancel and pay off the device.

Still a pretty good deal!
Requested unlock code on My o2 online, phoned up 202 option 1 then 2 then 4 and was greeted by someone who had obviously done a few of these today :man:. Paid off the device and made it clear i wanted the airtime cancelled too. She was on the hard sell trying to get me to keep the air time and sell me a tablet but just told her no chance and everything is cancelled. Seems too good to be true, ill let you all know in a months time if it's worked!
Did you guys get an email about delivery straight away or did it take a day or two for them to contact you? I can't log into O2 because it wants to connect the account to a phone number but until I get the phone I don't have a number!
Is this happening for anyone else? Just want to get this unlock sorted so I can cancel.
All in all, excellent communication from O2
cheers
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/phones/apple/iphone-5s-grade-b-refurb/
The lowest tariff i can see for the 16GB is £13 (upfront £9.99) and £19 for the 64GB (upfront £69) ?
Use serial no. From your despatch invoice, enter the security code and tada
Also applies to Android phones, Windows Phones, anything really.
Jut got one picked up yesterday and it is not unlocked (tried Voda sim). Have requested unlocking before I pay for it, so we will see. Afterwards I can cancel the contract and keep the device I hope.
(PS lots of very good phone cases from 99p stores)
Once unlocked I will pay off device and cancel airtime, pay a few days but that's minor.
Why shouldn't they?
Cancelled yesterday checked today as no email of conformation and it had not been cancelled also if you cancel without making a call on the o2 sim the phone can not be unlocked according to the person I have just spoke to.
Double check peeps............

cheers
Just my bad luck or is anyone else still waiting ??
Oh, and they don't mind us doing this, he said he had done a few today
Unlocking was done within the hour (email confirmation to put in another sim and plug into iTunes)
O2 advisor on chat was wonderful, very polite and efficient. Top marks
On phone to o2 now
Paid off £96
Now just waiting to get it unlocked
Sim will be disconnected tomorrow
Fabulous deal
Thanks op
And btw my phones pretty intact
Has one small dent on the top right but hardly noticeable
Has a screen protector on it and came with the cable which I needed anyway :smirk::wink:
Do we need to put a non-o2 sim in? Is it for checking purposes? I dont have one...
I'm sorry, we have not been able to unlatch your device at this time.
The reason given is:
The mobile number provided has not been used with the handset IMEI
provided. The two will need to be associated before we can unlatch.
☹️
You get the refund by either calling up customer services, or, the lady I spoke to said there will be a link you can click on in the "final bill" email where you can request for a refund too
I called around 10 this morning, wondering if anyone has got it who also calledi n the morning
I've just managed to get a 16GB in Silver, tried a number of times today each one OOS
btw, this is my 3rd Refresh deal
Need another though
tried a number of times today, each time was OSS, got lucky at 22:32
Oh well I'll keep trying I'm sure my perseverance will pay off
So no need to enter a code?
It's not a code you get, it's unlocked at Apple and you sync it with iTunes. Try another sim and see the previous owner might have had it unlocked already.
I'll use this until Iphone 7 releases and then sell/give to family.
Thanks
I dont see on that page the tariff for £4 a month?
6 grade b pick the £89 upfront
I then stupidly left the phone on but without the O2 sim in it. I got an email last night saying they couldnt unlock it as the IMEI and O2 sim werent "latched" and I am now disconnected. I used the live chat and they have reconnected me for 48 hours so I can submit a new unlock request. They said to leave O2 sim in until it is unlocked.
Hopefully should be unlocked in the next day or so.......
:smirk:
Just do not cancel the direct debit - it is a high risk of messing up your credit file. Likewise, do double check the bill as sometimes their billing system does spectacularly mess up and charge you for 24 months line rental (been there, done that!).
Also checked on the final bill generation, it should be 7 to 14 days after you cancel so as mentioned will probably need to claim a refund with the way they take the direct debit.
I have'nt even received the phone yet Ive just got my first bill ?? (cheeky ****)
also i moved my sim to a PAYG as the phone is for my daughter and she is getting it at xmas!!...I felt bad just legging it from O2..i like to let people down gently so my daughter can decide if she wants PAYG or a new contract with o2
P.S about timescales I requested at this time yesterday so it usually takes 24hrs
7. It might be a good idea to reset your network settings (Settings -> General -> Reset) if you have iMessage or FaceTime problems, as it doesn't seem to like network switching too often.
so there is a £15 fee to unlock!:disappointed:
if all fails, you could try their CEO most emails to companys CEO are picked up by a special customer service team who will do all they can to help you. [email protected]

So yeah, call 202, press option 1, then 2, then 4.
make sure you make and receive a call just for a few minutes or they cant unlock it.
Also worth downloading o2 priority app and activating it while your o2 contract is live (you enter the mobile number in the app, it sends an activation code which you then enter - job done ). You then have access to all the offers and no need to be on o2.
I'd also add that the operator seemed sure I'd previously had an iPhone 3GS even after I explained it was my first ever O2 account, so perhaps the phone number or IMEI (i.e. phone ID) is still associated when they sell refurbs. Either way, it didn't matter.
Received the unlock code this morning
It's easy as that. Now all I got to do is keep an eye on my bill.
has the sim been cut off yet if it has you should be ok.the months bill is for the first month but you claim back the days you haven't used.you probably got the same person i got when i phoned up you would think she was the owner of o2.the way the refresh plan and phone works is once you pay of the phone you can walk from the airtime plan immediately no months notice and no payg .
yes the number its been off from o2 when I cancelled after few hours no signals and went on o2 app the number wasn't showing.. I honestly think we got the same person that lady wasn't even listening I said look its 14 days period she goes I don't care u have to pay I tired nice and she kept saying its a policy its how refresh works she really **** me that day the way how she spoke.. but I have proof too from two other chat that confirmed I will receive final bill where I can get refund hope its sorts out for u too
All done within 10 mins! - hopefully...
Many thanks
Is there anything I can do? Can you cancel via live chat or is there some kind of thing I can quote if I ring up again. Feel a bit stressed by this - need to get it done this week or I'll be over 14 days.
Thanks
Finally wrapped up things now - moved to giffgaff, got my number sorted and called to pay off the phone and cancel the airtime today. My phone looks brand new too, very pleased.
Talked to online chat a couple of times and they were helpful and both people I talked to on the phone today were lovely and did everything quickly, with no issues.
I have even though i cancelled the airtime last week and the sim has been disconnected.

All you need to do is go to "Settings/Touch ID & Passcode" and "Turn Passcode Off".
I ordered this phone last Wednesday night, after it had been OOS all day (so I would advise others to keep on trying)
picked up the iphone on Monday, requested the unlock code the same day
both online via chat (no details of IMEI online either)
also requested via online account settings (unlock my phone)
received the unlock email tonight about 21:30 a little over 24 hours
Previous unlock requests have taken from 24-72 hours
just got to pay off device and cancel tomorrow now
Thanks OP, the Mrs finally has an iPhone
thanks I thought I had to connect to iTunes and restore iphone from there.
Cheers beggars.
An Iphone for less than £50.
So ive just ordered another for my daughter!!
Thank you so much OP xxx!!
The guy on there wiped out the bill and said I was owed £9. Here is the link for the refunds for overpayment of bills.

However, Its all covered for 12 months under O2 anyway. And I'm pretty sure under EU law says Apple have to cover us for 2 years anyway.
Considering how cheap it was and looks mint, it doesnt concern me too much and I'm keeping it.
Vote to stay in the EU people!
Now, my final bill came today and they have added VAT to my refund, so I was 21p in credit?!. Just went ahead and transferred it to card, in the hope now all is now closed.
No airtime cost at all, in fact, they've paid me...strangely...
Excellent service from o2 all the way.
On chat with them now!
Nice to see this process has gone smoothly for everyone else here as well...
Incidentally, once the number was disconnected I only have access to the bill section. I don't know if that's normal. I cancelled on (I think) 5th of May, so its only just been 14 days. I'll give it a few more days.
Yes I have got a new phone again this time and yes I have been charged the full airtime again - their system has still not been updated for how Refresh works.
I won't be cancelling the direct debit yet as I don't want a negative credit rating.
So now I'm waiting for another 6 weeks for it to finally cancel and a final bill. God know when the refund/DD will sort themselves. Really annoyed about this faffing about but I do love the phone so it is worth it..!
For what it's worth, online chat (along with claiming to sort the problem) also explicitly told me to cancel the DD, so I don't know what's going on. It amazes me how, at least for me, every big company's billing system finds a way to overcharge.
Ahh so you did, yes sorry I'll sort that straight away
asked about credit score/file etc, was told it won't effect that
one other point I cancelled a number of direct debits earlier this week, in the process I must of cancelled the 02 ones so they can't get the money anyway
personally I always go straight to the top (The CEO) this gets results within 24-48 hours
http://www.ceoemail.com/s.php?id=ceo-9614&k=574f25f3&c=O2%20Chief%20Executive
got an email last Thursday for a failed £11 direct debit (even though the account had been closed)
on the Friday I got an final bill for £220.54
went on live chat on both occasions to clear this up (or at least I thought I had)
have been on the phone as well to clear this up
today I have recieved a new bill for £2.09
wonder what email/bill I'll get tomorrow
If it was locked when you put the EE sim in the iPhone the screen would read activation required.
Just came off the phone with Apple - their systems say the phone is locked to o2!
I use this option all the time, never fails, often gets resolved withg 24-48 hours
All that said, thanks to the O.P
I suspect this will happen a lot over the coming days. I'm sure they're well meaning, but almost every promise I received from O2 was broken, and they still haven't refunded the first month's charge.)
Anyone know how long these take to restock ? Live chat can't give any details
next day I got a bill for £220, again got it sorted, although with no direct debit option they can't take any money
agree about how much of a pain the live chat is (30 minutes roughly each time)
Incidentally, if you lose money for any reason (bank charges etc), or just are not satisfied, escalate it and it'll get sorted much quicker.

You may want to look at Resolver.
I did initially contact o2 when the bill arrived and they assured me payment would not be taken as I had closed the account straigh after I received the iPhone- liars!!!!!
Either way, it does seem to have sorted itself out for most (although my account still shows them owing me a month's credit, which they've already repaid). It's just a load of faffing about. And the fear of cancelling a Direct Debit, even though you no longer owe anything, doesn't help matters.
Refunds finally sorted for both 5s and s6 from December .
But this is such a farce and their systems clearly not equipped to deal with their own contract and can easily mess up people's credit ratings is it really worth it to go through all this and mess up just about everything else financially in your life ?
I've been dealing with O2 since June and there is still no sign of my refund yet. I even contacted my bank but they said I shall get O2 to sort this out. They promised so many times that refund will be done with 5-10 days. I am really very annoyed with them. They took the money from an account I rarely use so there is not much in. When they took that GBP 200+, it went overdraft. I was really mad because I've never gone overdraft in my life.
Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
I guarantee it will be sorted within days, usually you get a response/acknowledgement within 24 hours
any issues I have I always go straight to the top, works a treat every time
