Appears to be less than half price than elsewhere (currently £39.00 @ Amazon). Gorgeous box set too
All 30 episodes of David Lynch's landmark murder mystery series. Twin Peaks (population 51,201), a sleepy everytown USA where everyone's lives intersect with everyone else's, lies just five miles from the Canadian border. The town wakes up one morning to find one of its brightest young inhabitants, beautiful Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) murdered and wrapped in plastic down by the river. Local Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean) and tearful Deputy Andy (Harry Goaz) are out of their depth with such a murder case and an FBI agent is assigned to investigate. Youthful, charismatic and somewhat otherworldy in his approach to policing, Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arrives to try and solve the case. Cooper's appearance causes ripples in the community and in turn he discovers that Twin Peaks is a small town full of secrets.

It's putting me off that the aspect ratio on this is 4:3 which means black bars down each side and unlike DVD's you can't make the picture full frame.
TonyLeMesmer to neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 162#41
It means you see the full picture though, as the director intended.
cicobuff to neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 161#42
Why would you want to make the picture full frame? Many a TV would allow you change picture ratio these days, but once again why would you? Stretching a 4:3 image to 16:9 is atrocious..Twin Peaks was shot in 4:3.
This is an example of horrendous stretching a 4:3 image.
Unlike The X Files that was originally shot on Super 35 but cropped for 4:3 broadcasting they were able to just crop slightly the image top and bottom but you gained more from the original filming as shown below.
If you were to take the 35mm original Twin Peaks that was only done in 4:3 and crop a 16:9 you would result in way too much missing...like this example with Seinfeld.
neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 16#44
The point i was trying to make was with DVD's you get 4:3 full frame which gives you the option to make it full screen and i don't mean stretching which you can do with your tv and yes it does look horrendous. I have a 55 inch tv and in the manual it actually states watching tv with the black bars down the sides can actually damage it.
cicobuff to neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 16#45
And the point I am making is with many a TV you do not even need that option in a Blu Ray player menu, you can stretch which looks horrendous or you can choose to crop (making it full screen) as in the Seinfeld example which I believe is exactly what you are referring to doing if not stretching within the TV Menu itself (I am not referring to Blu Ray or DVD options I am referring here to the TV picture options) .Why black bars down the sides can actually damage your TV I do not know....other than the possibility of (correctable) image retention of the lines either side on Plasma I cannot see how.
Whether changing picture output settings in a DVD Player, Blu Ray Player or for that matter a TV itself which is dependent on the makes and models and picture options available...cropping or stretching from the original source material is not advisable as the examples show.
jsty3105 to neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 16#54
I was intrigued enough to Google it - turns out the warning was about screen burn-in. It's highly unlikely to happen in this day and age though! You'd probably have to leave it on for days.
neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 16#46
After all that moaning from me i succumbed and bought it though it's out of stock.
cicobuff to neilmonaghan56
30 Apr 16#49
Out of interest what is the make and model of your TV? I am curious to know what manufacturer is giving you info that black bars can damage your TV? Also what Blu Ray Player are you using? I would be very surprised if not between your Blu Ray Player and your TV there would not be one of the two that has a picture ratio changing option as long as you are prepared to live with the output as the 'Seinfeld' example.
In an ideal world there would be a 16:9 of this, unfortunately as I explained...unlike The X Files remaster I am sure you can understand why one has not been done, you cannot open up any more information than what was originally shot, and as it was shot in 4:3 a cropping would be horrendous...although you are welcome to try it in your own home by changing picture options.
This has not been available online now for nearly the past day. Hopefully back ordered stocks will be fulfilled but I did not want to chance any cancellations and secured a copy instore.

Dunno, see if there is a market for it on ebay and then decide... you would probably have a wider target audience on ebay.
I've given up on selling stuff on the whole... can't do with the hassle....
I normally wack most things to the Charity shop nowadays.
Dvd's and that kind of thing I keep in a big pile for Music magpie, when the pile reaches about a metre high I put them in a box and send it off..... I normally only get 20p for most things but I'm not bothered because I know that they are sold on at fair prices and it keeps the 'stuff' cycle going in a recycle-y kind of way...
Used to use ebay all the time..... I've just slowed off over the last year or so

It's a Furrion tv i bought on the cheap about 3 years ago. I have an LG blu-ray player which can make DVD's full frame but when it comes to 1080p in 4:3 it won't budge. I can use the tv to change the ratio but as you said it just looks horrendous.

The two copies left when I went to my local HMV were both shrink wrap sealed. The copy I had did not have anything missing. The Fire Walk With Me piece of paper was not underneath the flap fully in mine as its just a loose slip of paper and had worked its way out of the flap partially.

I cancelled my order from HMV today and bought it from ZOOM instead for £16.63 and even though there is a thread here saying that the offer on ZOOM has expired it hasn't as my order is in dispatch. Oh and you would have been better buying it with a card from HMV as Paypal takes your money straight away compared to when you use a card it's not charged till your order is dispatched.

It literally only is a slip of coloured print on white paper, I have a colour laser printer but sadly no way of scanning it, else I would for you. I could take a photo but a scan would be much better.
It would be worth getting in touch with CBS, only problem there is I cannot find any email address for CBS Home Entertainment at all. They do have a [Facebook page] you could message through though.
It is always worth getting in touch with any company home entertainment division if there is a fault with discs or packaging. I had to recently over the well reported fault with Season 8 of The X Files Blu Ray set and got mailed a corrected replacement set.
