This is a PC port of the N64 classic with some improved graphics, [email protected], a ton of options. And you can play with KB&M!
Been waiting for a price drop on this for awhile, 50% off was the drop I needed. Already played some myself, finished the hub and quickly enjoyed being able to turn the bobbing off and the pickup flashes. It's a very solid port that's still getting updates from the devs. I've read they plan to release a level editor before moving on to Turok 2 which they already have the license for.
If you love the classic gameplay and have waiting for a reasonable price, then here you go ^^

no not really, they go for £30-£40 including p&p.
Asian/American versions are better so more sought after and more expensive because of their superior video output and being 60hz.(majority of games run slower than originally intended on UK/EU PAL models).

Same here, got stuck on one of the bosses (health kept regenerating, might've been final boss) and I never went back to it.
It had some of the best weapons of any FPS though - the upgraded bow, shotgun and that weird matter transformer weapon.

I think I prefer faithful ports, games with sometimes nothing more than a fresh coat of paint, or an engine which allows it to run at [email protected] and more options to allow the game to open up to more people. Wink Waker HD and Zelda OOT 3D were great examples of this.

I looked at the bay earlier, think ^ that's a low estimate for boxed
some are going for crazy money
I'm certain I have the box for my Pokemon edition somewhere, and I know I have the controllers
might have to dig it all out, could do with a few bob

That's interesting, thanks. I wasn't undermining the work that's gone into this, just observing that, as far as remasters go, it's closer to the original game than most. I'm sure there's a lot different under the hood but on the surface it's more like a fresh coat of paint than a whole new game, which I'm sure was the aim. Nice to see such faithful remasters.

It's much more complicated than that, and significantly more work has been put into it than simply improving draw distances / resolution options from the 1997 PC version. The main dev for this (Kaiser) didn't have access to the original source code for Turok until late in the development cycle, by reverse engineering the N64 version he recreated most of the game true to the original on a completely new engine (the engine he originally wrote for PowerslaveEX). It's the result of years of work and shares little in common with the original 1997 code.
We need some more dinosaur games like this nowadays :disappointed:
Too much zombies but no dinosaurs.

Yes, it was a timed exclusive - released for the N64 in March 1997 and the Windows version followed in November. Nintendo must have had a deal with Acclaim to hold off on releasing the PC version for 8 months to try to drive sales of the N64, which worked and many people do associate the franchise with the N64, but a PC version was always there. They did the same thing with Turok 2 - it came out on PC 5 months after the N64.
I've looked into it and I guess it has been remastered slightly - but not a complete overhaul, just better draw distances and support for widescreen/higher resolutions, which is how it should be. Also it turns out that Turok 2 is in the works as well! I seem to remember enjoying it but never finishing it - I got it soon after getting my first PC so it must have lost out to some other game!

Nostalgia usually is ****. I bought Sensible World of Soccer and a Mega Drive around 4 years ago and played it for 5 mins and haven't touched it since. So many memories of playing that game in my teens, but I almost ruined them all by revisiting the game.

It's part nostalgia, but it's also because it was a very good game for it's time. It's got a fairly lengthy campaign with good gameplay and level design. I think compared to the linear cover shooters of today it's refreshing to play games like these. Serious Sam also being a good example. The gameplay is what helps keep it good.
Thankfully they pushed the fog back a lot. I guess they didn't want to remove it altogether as it was part of the feeling of the game. Plus I'm sure levels are designed with fog in mind.

It must have been a later release on PC as the box (and pic on this thread) has the 'only for Nintendo' branding.
Surprised for the love on this thread, I always remember Turok being pretty average.
Still 1080p fog of war...!

Turok cart only is going for about 6 to 10 quid on ebay, A working Nintendo 64 is gonna set you back at least 40 quid. A few years ago you could pick them up for a fiver in cash generator. Not any more.

Not exactly - the game was originally released on PC as well as N64 back in the day, so it's just that the original PC release is now available on Steam. It's aged really well though - it looks amazing considering it's not a remaster! I hope this means they're going to put Turok 2 on Steam as well, as that's the one I first played when I got a PC.

One of the few games I bought full price on Steam when it first hit. (Well, full price -10% first week discount), played through the entire campaign and it was a lot of fun! Much easier to play with mouse and keyboard, and a ton of visual improvements like constant 60fps. Looking forward to the port of Turok 2. Heat
